Dancing With the Stars - Fall 2021

Maks has gone back to Poland to help out with the refugee crisis. He mentioned in an interview a few weeks ago that he's been feeling "survivor's guilt." :( He said he was acutely aware that he was the only male on the train station platform and in the train leaving Ukraine. He realized that had he not made it onto the train, he would have ended up staying in the station, packed in, all night, with everyone else. (There were reports that many Urainian women & children end up taking a couple days getting to the train station then another 2 days or more at the train station before getting on a train. So, whether it was Maks' U.S. passport, his connections, or his celebrity status in the Ukraine, he was really lucky to make to the train station and on a train within 24 hours.)

He had said he didn't want to take up any room in the train car from the women & children, so he stayed in the area between the train cars, where there was no heat. When he got really cold, he'd stand in the train car to warm up, then go back to his spot.

Yet, I remember in one of Maks' first Instagram posts when the war started in Ukraine, he said he wanted to think he was there in that situation other than just bad timing. That's when he started documenting on Instagram what was going on.

I think when he hooked up with (Real Housewives of NY) Bethenny Frankel and her disaster relief charity organization, (he mentioned how her organization was helping people at the borders, in his Instagram,) that's when the impetus to go back to Poland was probably born. Bethenny's charity, BStrong Disaster Relief is actually quite well established and well respected around the world. The organization has been to 10 different regions around the world, for instance, Puerto Rico after their hurricane, to provide aid.

For Ukraine, within the first several days, BStrong amassed $25 million in donations. Bethenny said in an interview on TMZ Live, one of the reasons people donate to her charity over others is that she works "very lean." Her charity doesn't use up a lot of the donations for bureaucratic operational b.s. She also said it helps no one if she brings over 100 crew people and none of them speak Polish or know the area. Plus, valuable donations would be used up on their plane fares and hotel accommodations. Instead, she finds and vets trusted partners in the disaster region, who have boots on the ground, know the area, local resources, and people who can really make a difference. Bethenny also warned about giving to other celebrities who are raising funds for Ukraine. They may be great at raising the funds. But then don't know how to get the money to the people in Poland or Ukraine. :headache:

I think, that's when Maks realized he needed to go back to Poland, put his dancing boots on the ground, as he can speak both Russian & English, is Ukrainian, and has his own trusted sources there (along with Bethenny.) Using his own celebrity and platform, Maks has started his own charity
organization, Baranova27 — named for the address where he, Val and his father grew up in Odessa, Ukraine.

Baranova27 has been collecting donations of clothing, medical supplies, and hygienic equipment to ship to refugees in Europe, and fundraising via their GoFundMe page. Aside from those, refugees also need help with housing. In his latest Instagram video, uploaded from Warsaw, Maks said the streets are full of Ukrainian refugees and most cities hardly have room for more. So Maks is asking for help finding climate-controlled tents that can comfortably house people. He is also working with Bethenny's BStrong organization as well as learning from her how to operate his charity.

Well, I'm out then. I don't get Disney+. :duck:
On a Disney message board, and don't have Disney+!? WHAT????? LOL! Totally teasing! My DH is a big star wars fan and enjoys the movies all being right there in one place in addition to the special series like the Mandalorian and the Book of Boba Fett. There is an original series on there that is based off of Doogie Houser, MD, but its a 16 year old girl in Hawaii. It's very cute!
We don't have a cable or satellite provider (too much money and got tired of them nickel and diming us for this tax and that box fee and so on), so the only TV we have is streaming services. Maybe you can still pull up the dances on youtube afterward and be a part of this thread?

We were just about to dump Disney +. We don't watch it much. I guess I will get it back when DWTS comes back next season. I can't imagine paying extra money to watch Tyra though.

I still have cable and paying a hefty fee for that each month. I'm working my way to Disney+. :) I would also have to carve out enough time to start watching the Mandalorian. I started out with Amazon Prime and went through all the stuff I wanted to see there. Now, it's Netflix. Maybe Disney+ next. . . :scratchin

It’s an interesting move. I can’t imagine that many people who don’t already have Disney+ will subscribe just because of this. Maybe some people who don’t already watch will start watching now, but that’s not how streamers really use streaming services. People who have already “cut the cord” and still want network programming probably already subscribe to one of the other services with live TV. I just don’t see what they hope to gain here. Maybe they’ll change the format and extend the voting period so people can watch live or a couple days after it airs and still vote. We do have Disney+, though, so I guess I’ll still be able to watch. I agree I hope they bump Tyra.

That's ok with me, as I already have Disney+, but while we are changing things up, can we just get rid of Tyra already?? Pretty please!!!
I also have Disney+ so it's not a big deal. I bought the 3-year plan when it first came out.

I didn't think about that. Streaming is set up binge, not watch weekly shows. I wonder if they will eliminate the viewer votes altogether and just go with the judges.

Maks is back from Poland. He & Peta are in Miami. She was awarded a beauty award for her Peta Jane tanning mouse. Maks went with her to support her.
