No, she's being good. By teenager standards anyways. I just don't know if I can keep my mouth shut about us going to the beach for 5-6 days. ;)

I like surprises... but I think you should tell her.. it's more fun being able to talk about it over the next few months.. and then actually do it... let her help with the planning... but maybe keep one thing a surprise... like if you book a dinner cruise or something special like that... whatever is something she likes to do, or something special you always do, or always wanted to do but didn't do when you were there in the past.

Now... I know I've been away for a long time... but I've missed the whole FP band thing... anybody want to elaborate and tell me what it is, how you get them.. etc.. (from the conversation, I'm guessing it's like fast pass but you get a band, and you can reserve your times in advance of your trip... tell me more...) If everybody starts doing this will they be completely out of fast passes for the day??? or are they limiting how many t ey are giving out??

There's no real quick answer to this, but basically it's a wrist band with an RFID chip in it. Like with the KTTW cards, you can use it enter your room, attach admission tickets to it, attach charging privileges to it, the DDP, etc.. Right now it's still in the testing/roll-out phase, and those using it can customize it before they leave home. One aspect of that is FastPass+, where you can choose up to 3 FP's per day (in the same park) ahead of time, and those are also built in to your Band. I don't like this personally because for me it kills the spontaneity of hopping to another park on a given day, if for whatever reason my first park of choice isn't going to be a good fit for that day. For some folks this would work (if you don't park hop, have little kids, etc..). Right now I'm hearing that you can still get a KTTW card if you prefer that. And I've heard rumor that eventually the paper FP will be phased out entirely.

Here's a pretty good blog post about them: MagicBands
.

Yup. I agree with LegoMom. It's kinda cool playing around on MDE with booking my FP+ and customising the magic bands; but I really don't like having everything mapped out months in advance. It's bad enough that we have to lock in ADRs 6 months in advance; now we have to choose our FP+ 2 months out as well.

What ever happened to the days of just getting there and taking the left fork????

Ugh..... I like the idea of some of it.. but now it's just another reason for us to become even more OCD. I could see myself getting crazy about it, trying to plan out every little flippin detail.. ane then trying to make it work... because if I don't plan it, then we may get completely bumped out of something... so I will plan, plan, plan.... I'm with you.. I like the idea of going to the park, and say.. OK... so what do you want to do first... and then just go.. I like planning some things.. like the dining... So do they give you a time frame too? or is it just you have 3 fast passes for the day, and once they are gone, they are gone... If you don't do the band, would you be able to still go to the kiosks? see.. this is already driving me crazy, and I'm not even planning a trip right now.. just the thought of future trips..

No, they have times. They are a FP just like what exists now, only they are attached to your band rather than being a slip of paper. Another aspect I've seen kicked around is an app or something that can go along with all this, for smart-phones. I don't have a smart-phone and have no plans to get one any time soon!! They act like everyone has one. :confused3 I don't think you must have one, but it's another so-called perk of this new system.

Right now, yes. In the future, though, there may not even be those kiosks (that's basically what I'm reading). I don't know what that means for off-site or day guests, but if it locks them out of the FP system (or makes them pay for it), I can't see that as being good. :sad2:

I will be getting a Band when I go in May, and I believe they should be fully in place by then (meaning everyone gets them, not like now where they are still choosing people to test them). I will let you know what it's like, for sure!!

I just read this in a review posted by a member on another message board:

"There are a lot of people that do not stay on property that were pretty mad about the magic bands. They were constantly yelling to the cast members especially about the reserved viewing areas for the fireworks and the parades. Don't know how Disney is going to handle this or if the bands are going to be exclusive to resort guests or if non resort guests will have to purchase the bands. The word is not official yet and cast members were not sure either."

Yep. Here we go.....

Yup. *sigh*

I just got my bands to try out at the end of September. I messed up signing up and my DD14 has her band set to the room and her pass went to another log in. Somehow we had both kids in twice in our log in. Plus, our passes expire in the middle so I can only book Fast Passes ahead for the one day the passes are good. I need to get that fixed by next week so I can try to set up priority viewing and most importantly, a good time for Test Track.

Hope you get it sorted out.

There was a fairly "official" post on the PassPorter boards that Disney does not have plans to ever make FP's exclusive to resort guests only. They know that would be a bad move. I'll just be glad when the bugs get worked out of the system and these Magic Bands and all the new stuff is working seamlessly!

Fall is certainly in the air here. It's been nice, though, so no complaints from me. Sad to see summer go but this cooler air is definitely better for running. Making a trek to FL next week so I'll get another taste of heat before winter really sets in! :cloud9:

What's everyone else up to?!

PiO -- getting close!!

OOH! No. Sorry. I must have missed a notification about this thread.

I'm in the midst of packing. 4 days to go. :cool1:

LegoMom - Are you by chance doing the ToT Half Marathon?

I'll be there that week.

Sadly, no. It's just a plain ol' boring non-Disney race here in New Hampshire!! :rotfl: I'm doing this Half because I've committed to it, but I can tell you I won't do one again. I just get bored when I have to run for that long! I would, however, love to do the ToT 10-miler some day. Not quite as long as a half, and I love the theming and the post-race party there in DHS.

Summer is going? Not done here. Not for a long time. So you will definitely get a taste next week. I'm full time now so we probably won't be able to do a Starbucks meet! Rats.

I just made plans today for an October trip to F&WF for the Party for the Senses. It's expensive, but that's what I want for my birthday (a few weeks earlier.) Just a night out as adults at Epcot!
