We just got all the info for our daughter's dance recitals for May. We have to pay for tickets which are $14 for Main Floor, $12 for Balcony and $10 for Upper Balcony. This has been normal for us. Our girls have been dancing for 6 years. My mom commented that the tickets were so expensive. Where they live it's free to see the performance. Both are in rental places. So, I'm just wondering how much if any do you pay to see your daughters dance?:confused3

We pay a $25 recital fee that the owner uses to cover all expenses related to the recital's location (our city's coliseum). There is no charge to attend the performance.

I'm wondering if where they live, the students pay higher tuition or recital fees to cover the free tickets.

Where I live, everyone charges for a regular recital held at any venue they must rent.

i don't recall our prices, but they are similar to yours.

What I find shocking is that for dance competitions--I keep having to buy tickets for each event which I find obnoxious as they pay very high fees to do those--so you would think they would get at least a chaperone free or something.

In any case--it is not uncommon and if I had someone I wanted to see my child perform, I would cover the ticket if I was able. If not, when I am ordering tickets, I let them know the cost and when I need the money.

We live in Brevard County Florida and I don't know of a single dance company that offers a free recital that isn't held in the dance studio itself. This includes the community center that holds it in a high school and charges for tickets.

Looking at where we are relocating to (prince william county, virginia), I have come across studios that have recital fees and it includes a set number of tickets.

We don't pay a thing. My daughter's dance studio holds their recital at a local highschool that has a large stage. This was part of the reason I chose this studio-seemed silly to have to pay to see my own kids dance.

Our son was in hip-hop for the past several years and the tickets for their recitals were $15. We didn't have main floor or balcony seating so all tickets were the same price. They hold the recital in the Performing Arts Center at one of the local high schools.

I think ours is $7-8 per ticket. Our dance school has two recitals and DD16 is in both of them. So we have to buy tickets to both performances.

DS14's best friend's sister is HUGE into dance. They have a competition squad as well as the traditional dance classes. Each recital she is in at LEAST 10 of the dances, needing a costume for each one to the tune of at LEAST $100 each, plus all the monthly dance fees, etc. and her parents STILL have to pay for tickets to the recitals-even though they work at all of them selling tickets, etc.

We got off lucky--the dance studio was trying to attract more boys so they offered free classes for the boys--as well as an instructor that was a cheerleader for a professional sports team in town :rolleyes1.

We've never had to pay for tickets to the recital. We do pay a $30 registration fee at the beginning of each year which the owner uses to secure the recital venue. DD's teacher actually puts an add in the paper advertising the recital as a free performance...she gets alot of new students that way.

Don't even get me started on Competition fees!!! I just wrote a check for $450 for 2 costumes and entrance fees to 1 competition....eeeekkkkk!

DD most recent show/recital was $20 a ticket.
Really adds up when you go to multiple nights so someone is there and you buy tickets for Grandparents etc.

We are bad parents, we only went to one show, not all 6 and never asked grandparents to come and sit through 3 1/2 hours of watching other kids dance to see DS dance for 3 minutes :lmao:.

We pay a $25 recital fee for each dancer. You get two tickets with that fee and the extra tickets are $8. Our recital is at the local university's auditorium. We've never had to pay to get into a competition. Thank goodness!! The fees are crazy enough as it is!

Wow... I am at the wrong studio. :scared1: We pay a $35 costume fee and we have to buy a minimum of 5 tickets at $20/each. This is for the kids in regular ballet. The kids that are in the select and company classes have to pay much, much more.

We pay a $30 recital fee plus each student must sell at least 5 tickets at $10 each. So if the parents keep the tickets for their family they are paying $10 each.

It used to be that each student would get 2 complimentary tickets, but we haven't done since we changed venues. The cost of the tickets and the recital fee goes to the rent of the venue. This does not even include the cost of costumes.

I no longer have a DD that dances, but I still dance (love the exercise) and I am in 8 different numbers and of those 8, 1 is an encore of a dance from last year, so no new costume and 1 is my solo, again no new costume. But I do have to pay for 6 costumes. Right now I am looking at just over $300.

Thankfully the owner (my best friend) tries to keep the cost of costumes down. She tries to stay away from the really pricey costumes.

30 a month for dance class
$60.00 for the outfit
$10.00 each ticket
$5.00 snack free
$24.00 for your 3 pictures, 8x10, 5x7, wallet
$10.00 to put picture in programe
$10.00 for program
$10.00 for flower for DD
$10.00 for DD to give DH flower on stage, (ours is always held fathers day weekend)

So needless to say, we are not doing dance this year, we will do TBall.

We are in Australia but ours has been $20 per ticket for the last few years. This is regardless of where you sit, either main floor or balcony. The seats are allocated on a first come first serve basis. I wouldn't miss it. I look forward to seeing my girls up there and they love knowing we are there and like to know before the show where we will be sitting.

we pay $50 per month for lessons, about $80 for costume, about $50 for pictures, and $40 for a recital fee, which gives us 4 tickets and a program. we buy extra tickets at $10 each so that all of the grandparents can attend (all are on disability-very limited incomes). there is also $20 for a dvd of the performance-cameras are not allowed, as the instructor writes the entire recital herself, and copyrights each show.

I used to dance at a ballet school and not only did we have a spring recital, we had a spring benefit gala that each dancer was responsible for selling tickets for at $75.00 a seat! My poor parents.:rotfl: On top of that, tickets to recital were $20.00 each. My parents didn't come to every show, just one of them. For friends and family we bought the DVD of the show and then had a little get together once it came out.:goodvibes

ours was $5. But it wasn't to cover costs...one of the graduating seniors was awarded a scholarship with it.
