Dan Murphy, what are you doing???

I think that Dan has a valid point. There was a time when people used to chat with pretty much everyone and not just a small group. Now we have cliques and people who hijack threads and tons of games. It's different and I can understand why some people may not like it.

As far as people needing to step away from the computer, many have stepped away and that's unfortunate.

I'm clueless about this whole issue. :confused3

I have not been around long enough to remember how the CB used to be. Did it change that much during the past few years?

ROTFL!!!!!!

I guess I haven't been paying attention to the drama on the CB.
I just did a search on Dan's posts to find out what all the fuss is about! I haven't had a laugh this good in a long time!!!

Dan, I feel your pain!

You're right, though. We must have driven Dan over the edge. This is a new side of Dan Murphy. I like it!!

I think he was being passive-aggressive, not chitchatty.

ITA. BTW, if he was trying to make a point, that's no way to do it.

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto.... you said it exaclty like it is.

I'm rarely around much any more and haven't a clue what Dan has been up to, but from what I've read it sounds good.

G'day Dan:wave:

:lmao: I just did a search and I must say Dan... you sure have been busy:teeth: and by gosh you sure got locked up quite a bit:happytv:

While that is often the case - putting a certain someone on ignore in this case allowed him to get so out of hand that a thread I really cared about was removed.

I don't think just ignoring problem behavior always works. I don't know what would have. :confused3 Contacting the moderators before there was a severe enough problem that they would really care??
Well said my friend. :thumbsup2

I have some opinions on different things being said in this thread, but I'm too lazy to quto. So, i'll just give my opinion.

First of all, I do, once in a while, post on one of those game threads, and I did participate in two exchanges. Although it's fun, it also takes up a lot of the space on the CB. Sometimes, a whole page doesn't consist of anything more than games and exchanges. But, if the whole first page consists of games and exchanges, it implies that many people post on those, and thus they stay on page one. A separate board wouldn't be bad :)

The clique threads. Well, many threads say: we welcome everyone, but that isn't always the case. I have mentioned a couple of times a secret handshake and password, and I always get the "there is no secret handshake" answer. But I don't feel it's true. There are "clique" threads that go way further than the DIS, and if you don't know on what blogs and other chats things get discussed further on, no way to join in. Also, if they never ever mention you in their morning shouts, just forget about it.
But you know what? Life doesn't stop there. Even if you are not part of one of those cliques, you can still have a nice life. Or at least, that's what I tell myself! :rotfl2:

And yes, discussion boards change. people come and people go, and with them, discussions come and go. If you don't like the topics that are discussed now, why don't you start a new thread, about a topic that you like?

One thing I did notice, today, is that many people have "long toes", as we say over here. You say something, you give your opinion, without any secret agenda, and because it's not the opinion of someone else, you're being "disrespectful". Que? Oh well, that's life, I guess :)

:confused3 I've been on these boards for quite a few years now. Sometimes I post on the CB and sometimes I don't. I really haven't noticed that much of a difference lately. Maybe because I skip the games threads and just read/reply to topics. I guess I am in the dark as to what the problem really is. Maybe it is better to not know! :rolleyes1

It seems to me that the people who think the clique threads are just fine..... are the same people who are actively involved in at least one clique thread. ;)

They absolutely do get on my nerves, to be honest. Unless you're involved in it from the first few pages, it's impossible to jump in. Most of the time they're about nothing in particular, and I wonder why the participants don't just use IM or even a Yahoo group instead.

I agree. When you try to jump in, you get yelled at for not reading what was said 3 pages ago. :rotfl2:

I just did a search and it does seem like he's trying to make a point since most of his threads were about nothing.

Then it should be true for all those threads. Maybe the DIS oldtimers thread and the Chicago thread should go to Yahoo Groups, too, if the others should. :confused3 There are other threads that get on my nerve, but I just skim over them and don't open them. It's about a community, not just about what I personally like or don't like.

And people complain about children being on here and posting...are we not adults :confused3 ...then lets satrt acting like one...holy crap to get your feelings hurt because you were ignored in a thread...to complain about people being "cliquey"...are you all serious...I have been on and off the Dis since 2001 and have chosen to post on certain threads and chosen to ignore certain threads...in Sept. of 2005 I posted on the original Lush Ladies thread and found a great group of people that I enjoy posting with both here and on other boards...does that make me part of a "clique"...I think not...to me it just means that I found a group of people that I have something in common with...it is mostly laughter...these people make me laugh and we have a good time together both on the Dis and elswhere...for the prior 4 years I just posted regularly on the Transportation, Resort and Theme Parks boards...if someone didn't agree with my opinion on the advice I gave or ignored my posts I didn't run off and pout or flood the board with childish threads...I chalked it up to human nature that all people don't agree...when I started posting on the CB alot of my threads and post were ignored or faded away quickly...again I did not take my ball and go home...I just kept posting because it was fun and relaxing...to all the so called "cliquey" people with your own threads I say more power to you, keep posting and chatting with the people that have the same common interests as you...and to all the Lushes...THANK YOU for making me laugh :thumbsup2

That's fine with me, too!

I hope I do not offend anyone! That being said, I don't understand why people are getting upset. Dan Murphy started a thread for old time Disers. Tons of posts. Why is that one acceptable and the old drivel thread is not?

What I'm hearing is if you approve of the subject matter its ok on the CB. If not you need to go to a different board.

Then what is acceptable subject matter?

Why does the Chicago thread seem to bother some people??

If you don't live in the Chicago area you would probably would not be interested anyway in some of the things we discuss. We discuss local events and we get together for meets, besides discussing daily life.

Maybe these people who are bothered by the Chicago thread should start a thread for people in their area so they can meet some really nice people ( like we have) and have a good time. And then they can quit worrying about the Chicago thread!! :thumbsup2 :teeth:

There's nothing wrong with DISers in a certain area discussing things they have in common to their area or their lives.
Just like there are threads on the resort board for people to discuss only the Wilderness Lodge, or only AKL, or only Pop.
If you don't like these topics, you don't go there.
Not all threads are meant to please all people. :)

Why would one who doesn't even live in the Chicago area look at that thread anyway, unless asking a question about our area as many people have done when visiting our area. And we have always been very helpful to them. :teeth:

In fact we are welcoming to all new people who stop by the Chicago thread. We welcome one and all. :)

A very nice thread in deed!! :goodvibes :grouphug:

I'm pretty new to the CB - stumbled in here after following a link. I truly had never scrolled down that far in the list...

As any community has... there are neighborhoods, of sorts. Congrats on the group that just celebrated your 2 year anniversary of posting and getting to be such good friends. Good for you! What a great neighborhood and support system you have created. Do I read your posts? No, not until today when all the hoopla over someone feeling they were insulted over their tag.

What I found was a thread with over 2300 pages and some really good friends that have found a way to stay close. I wouldn't dream of posting there, but that doesn't mean that I think it shouldn't exist!

I wondered why someone always had to worry about clearing their PM's... but again, found a group of people that have created a neighborhood. Good for them too! It's what being a community is all about.

If I felt I had enough in common with the posters in either of those threads, I would join.

Perhaps, someday I might. For right now, I'm still feeling my way around and find it most comfortable (for me) to post in my cruise meets thread and get to know the people I'm actually going to meet face to face in another 480 days or so.

So, Dan... I appreciate what I think you were attempting to do. I, for one, enjoy the CB and have done my best to stay where I am comfortable and input when I feel I can bring value or an opinion to the table or start a thread that I think might be a fun question to ask or need opinions.

Vive la difference and let's move on past today! :grouphug:

That was an excellent post!
