Dan Murphy, what are you doing???

I would hardly call that "chitchat". It is very unlike him and I wonder what would have made him post like that? Very surprising.

I am just on and found his threads. His titles really look no different than what is on the CB right now. Games, tests, chitchat. I don't know what is going on, but the CB is just not the same anymore. :( Some people can chitchat and others can't.

I think he was being passive-aggressive, not chitchatty.

The threads on the CB are pretty much just a bunch of "clique" threads now. I don't know what he was doing, but they look just like the ones I am seeing now that are MANY pages long. Maybe he was making a point? :confused3

I was wondering the same thing. I thought maybe he was REALLY bored.

Ok, but what's the point?? :confused3 I started posting on his threads thinking it was for fun, but if he was just being sarcastic then I feel stupid. As far as cliques, I think we're one big giant one and everyone is free to join in anywhere and anytime.

Could be.

I wish there could be just one board designated for the drinking threads, game threads, exchange threads, etc. I know this has been mentioned before.

I don't think it'll ever happen though. :confused3 It would certainly help the other threads from quickly disappearing onto page 2 and 3.

Anyone can jump right in on any thread. I really don't see what the big deal is over the so-called cliques here. The longer you are a member and the more you post, the more you get to know people on here and tend to start posting more with those people. MOST people will not kick you off their thread and will welcome you to have fun or conversations right along with them. My guess is that Dan was just overly offended by some of the topics, which should just be ignored if he or anyone else doesn't like them.

I think you are kind of missing the point. It isn't that people don't feel that they can't post on the threads. It is that the threads are targeted to a small group of people who enjoy that kind of stuff and they are very extraneous to the rest of us.

....and they have gotten to the point where they are quickly dumping any "non-cliquey, don't want to cyber-drink, really don't want to play games, and couldn't care less if the Tag Fairy Tags me or if some lady whom I've never heard of gets to post a Trip report anywhere ever again" topic to the 2nd and 3rd pages before most of the rest of us get a chance to see them or participate.

I'll agree that the CB is cluttered as of late, but posting more clutter is not the way to solve it.

I have just recently started to really try and get involved in the topics on CB and feel the same way as Toby's Friend. The threads seem to be directed at only a few people. :confused3

I have managed to keep up with some "running" threads. (sometimes I don't, but I always go back) anyway if I don't really care about the topic at hand, game, or the way the conversation is going, I just stay out of it.

I thought that is what others did too.

There are a ton of regular threads that I never even open, but I just skip over them. :confused3

I found this out too, and if you aren't in thier morning shout-outs, it sort of means stay out. Plus if you do make a comment, you are either a troll, or a stir potter-or you better have a link or know someone so they can vouch for you. I learned to stop going in their threads.

Sure, but when half the CB is filled with threads like this, you miss interesting threads that end up on page 3 within 30 minutes.

Didn't there used to be a rule about threads not being personal messages to people? When there's a thread telling someone to clean out their PM box lasting for over 6,000 posts I guess not.

I pm Dan and talked to him and he was trying to make a point that a few years ago the DIS was a fun place where everybody chitchatted and stuff and now there are all sorts of groups and fighting going on that he got tired of it all and that is why I think he did what he did today, to try to bring us all back together like they were in the past.

I mostly lurk but do post as is evident by my count. I always thought that if a thread didn't interest you to just skip it. I know I am usually out of the loop but I have to say there aren't cliques here like I have seen on other boards. Most are very friendly. :confused3 Maybe I am missing more than I thought. HMMM.

...and I suspect that Dan has made his point because look at all the reactions from people who know what a good person he truly is.

In all honesty, I scroll the list before opening any threads - many names come up that I know to be confrontational - I don't choose to get involved, life offers us enough decisions to make. I come on to the boards to read, be entertained, and be informed...

Yeah, what's that about anyway?

Thanks for clearing that up :thumbsup2: Does anyone know why all of his threads were locked  :confused3:
