Daily Security Checks at Resorts?

I look young for my age (I'm 32 but honestly could pass for a college student or younger, especially the way I dress at Disney) and my husband is a scary-looking viking type, so we got hit pretty hard with security checks on our last stay. It was honestly humiliating and I cried almost every day because of it. I felt dirty.

I've been told my experience was very out of the ordinary for these checks so we're giving it another go. If we get harassed again like we did last time, no more staying onsite for us!

That still baffles me more than anything, the way we were treated afterwards, like we shouldn't think it was a big deal.

I used to always leave the door room occupied sign on during the days when we were out of the hotel room out of habit. I stopped doing that because I think it triggers the checks. I don’t know if that’s true but something I stopped doing on our last trip and didn’t have an issue. Probably why they changed the wording to occupied vs do not disturb as well. I’ve learned to keep my valuables in the safe as I should anyway and to be more tidy during my stay so housekeeping can come in and do what they need to. I accept the housekeeping and checks as part of staying at Disney. I have kids now as well, so tried to become more organized with how I leave the room during the day and just anticipate housekeeping is not totally optional.

We're going to try not opting out of housekeeping during our upcoming stay (this stay was 2020, so didn't want anyone else in the room at the time) so that lessens the likelihood that we get targeted. Also might check-in in person instead of mobile check-in, see if that helps. Also yes we always keep the occupied sign on when we're in the room because, well, it's true? Lol. We'll stop that now, too, I guess.

Might ask my husband to smile once in a while so he doesn't look like he's about to murder anyone, lol. If there was a prize for resting B face, he'd win!

I can laugh about the whole thing now, but at the time I as pretty traumatized The manager even asked us when we'd want her to check back the next days (the only day they didn't come was check-in day), and she specifically came during the time we told her not to. We said we take an afternoon break after a morning in the parks, so please come in the morning. She came in the afternoon right when I had finally started to relax for the day. Sigh. Always acted like she had hoped to catch us up to something. And then the day before our check out day she sarcastically said she wouldn't bother us anymore, isn't that THE BEST? and we got the nice and aggressive BANGBANGBANG on our door as we were packing up to get the heck out of there finally that next morning.

It was truly a week of torture.

And we're never staying at AKV again because it's just tainted for us forever now.

Not to be a Donnie Downer but I honestly don't think it matters what your do.

We didn't opt out of housekeeping, we did check-in in person and our occupied sign wasn't up. I didn't even know where it was as we never used them. Needless to say we still got that lovely BANGBANGBANG!!!

One hard lesson learned was that latch. We didn't have it locked because we didn't plan on napping, just crashed from exhaustion. (IF we ever stay on resort some time in the future we won't make that mistake again.)

But I wish you both a great event free trip. Lets us know how it went.

Because we weren't planning on taking a nap, it just turned out that we were totally exhausted after having driven all night two day's before, opening and closing one park the prior day and opening another the day of the incident. The original plan was to maybe go swimming or have dinner in the canteen but we just go in and crashed.

I don't know that the policy would be rescinded or not but if enough of these poor experiences are reported to them perhaps they would rethink it. The problem is those with the power to do something about it are too cowardly to meet with the general public, they just pass it off to the hotel staff who can't do anything about it. They need to know the results of their poor decisions.

And what happened to us was not funny!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP, we had a similar episode happen to my husband and I. We both have medical problems and must have rest periods each day just to take care of business and to function the rest of the day. We had a very bad experience and I wont' repeat it here; just suffice it to say that I wrote a very detailed explanation of it to the manager of our resort on returning home.

The very next time we visited the resort manager must have alerted all staff to our return. From the front desk to housekeeping we got excellent service. It was our 50th anniversary and we also got a beautiful cut glass vase with flowers and a gift bag with crystal champaigne glasses in a velvet case. We got cards each day. They knew we were celebrating our anniversary so they went out of their way to make up for the treatment we had the last visit. I also got a nice letter from the manager responding to my letter.

We were very pleased that at least, that resorts manager tagged our reservation and were completely helpful. When we arrived, a CM went with us to the room just to make sure the keys worked for us so we wouldn't have to go back to get them fixed (which happened last time). The service was wonderful and reminded me of " old school" disney treatment from past years.
The manager from housekeeping called us every morning just to see what time worked out for us to have a visit, and they came at that time only.
It was so nice to see that someone actually cared about the situation.

I love these security checks, I feel so much safer at Disney now. I love the fact that every time I go back to my room for my early afternoon siesta, a housekeeper is going to bang on my door and wake me up! And if I'm lucky enough to have forgotten to lock the latch on the door, they'll just come right in 3 seconds after knocking! The sense of safety is overwhelming after a housekeeper storms in and flushes my toilet!!! And sometimes, if your lucky, as an extra safety measure they'll even turn the sink on and off.......man what a great sense of security, and an added layer of protection at no extra charge!! What I like even more is when someone just opens your door and walks into your room to hand you a DVC advertisement, that's VERY IMPORTANT information that everyone needs to have handy at all times in case of an emergency. I'm not sure, but I've heard rumors that the housekeepers coming into your room are not really house keepers...... They are highly trained assassins, retired CIA Navy Seal type people.

I know they insist on entering your room at least once every 24 hours, but has anyone had a security check during a very short stay? We're flying in late on our next couple of trips, so we won't get to the hotel until sometime between 2 and 3 AM. We're just planning to sleep that night (at ASMu, if that makes a difference) until as close to check out time as possible before moving to AKL for a week. I will be really upset if they wake up my kids during an 8 hour stay.

I think you're more at risk of housekeeping knocking in the morning because they want to get the room cleaned and turned over for the next guest. Definitely put the room occupied sign out.

I've never been in the room for a security check, they seem to happen during the day and we're never in the room between around 9/10am to 8pm or later.

We'll also have park hoppers this time, so my goal is to not even be in the room most of the day to avoid the checks :x

Lol I forgot to mention that one of the times they attempted to barge in on us they were losing their minds that I wouldn't open the door (my husband was changing!). I don't think they understood English very well (I made it clear it would be just a second), so they left and brought the manager like 5 minutes later, while husband was in the shower cuz we had assumed we were just done with them for the day.

She was upset that the bathroom door was closed and locked and I said that's because my naked husband was in there, did she want a peek that badly?

That might be why she tormented us the rest of the week...

I guess I must be lucky bc other than the day of checkout, I've never had anyone knock on my door while we are in the room. Maybe we just are not in the room as much as others idk. But really, the thought of them coming in my room when I'm not there doesn't bother me at all. Regardless of if it's a security check or housekeeping. I don't think I'd be that worried about it if they did come while I was there. Probably annoyed if we happened to be asleep, but I've always known it was a possibility that it could happen so it wouldn't freak me out or traumatize me. Even if I was naked. Lol, if you barge in you deserve what you get and if it happens to be me or DH nekkid, well, sorry about your bad luck.

Last time we were at Disney was 2018 and we rented DVC. We only saw "housekeeping/room checks" maybe twice when we did an afternoon break a few days. They may have stopped more when we weren't in the room. Once the housekeeper asked me a few questions about my daughter. She seemed very genuine and told me to enjoy my time with my daughter but now I'm wondering if she was just trying to get a feel for us.

These room checks were the reason I was afraid to leave DD12 in the room alone (we travel together alone). I was very cautious about it. If I left the room I made her put the latch on and to have my phone on high volume. I knew if someone knocked while she was getting ready or just barged in she would lose a gasket. Next trip she will be 16 so I feel a little more comfortable because she'll be older but she would still be very upset if that happened.

I was in Key West recently and there were signs at a few places to be vigilant about sex trafficking but never any room checks at our hotel.

I don't think its daily. We recently stayed 6 nights and only 1 security check. The guy just looked in and asked if we needed anything. They need to make sure your not cooking meth.

I hate the security checks it’s annoying. Especially now that I have a baby that takes a 3 hour nap in the middle of the day. Was stressful not having Disney wake her up since she’s a light sleeper. And I don’t see the point when you can schedule the check. When I denied housekeeping because my baby was napping I got a room call asking when would be a good time for the room check. Seems pointless if you’re actually doing something bad. I’ve yet to experience it at any other hotel and many hotels actually say they will not enter the room at all if the do not disturb sign is on in case you forget to take it off and want housekeeping
