Jinx!We don't know that.
It's possible the imbalance of a leg with a big brace caused her to veer toward the gate.

I agree that the clipped gate is what caused her to fall. However, it’s not clear that it wasn’t the weakness/pain in her knee that caused her to clip the gate in the first place

We do know she hasn't won gold since 2010. That is a long time ago in elite athlete terms.
I hope she graciously retires again. And stays retired.
her line was too tight and she hit the gate, nothing to do with her knee IMHO.I agree that the clipped gate is what caused her to fall. However, it’s not clear that it wasn’t the weakness/pain in her knee that caused her to clip the gate in the first place
Coverage should also continue on Smart TV and phone apps.Just a heads up… coverage on NBC will be ending next hour for the extended pregame of the Super Bowl. Continuing coverage is on USA, NBCSN and later on CNBC.
Her left knee was injured and she hit a left gate. It could be she didn’t have the strength to correct the too tight line in time and/or to recover from clipping the gate.her line was too tight and she hit the gate, nothing to do with her knee IMHO.
As a racer you try to take the straightest line down...
she took a risk and paid the price
The gate she hit was on her right. Her left knee was injured and she hit a left gate. It could be she didn’t have the strength to correct the too tight line in time and/or to recover from clipping the gate.
or she just hit a gate. Her left knee was injured and she hit a left gate. It could be she didn’t have the strength to correct the too tight line in time and/or to recover from clipping the gate.
Hmmm. I only watched the fall once. I’ll go back and watch it again, but I did think it was on the left. Her knee weakness could still contribute to her not being able to recover from the clip. The gate she hit was on her right.
That’s so cool! My DD lives to ski (I meant to type “loves to ski” but “lives” also works). She spent 3 seasons teaching in Colorado and one in Oregon. She came into skiing as an adult so she doesn’t race (thank god!). She films herself back country skiing and shares them with me and that’s quite enough, thank you very much.or she just hit a gate.
I used to ski race (GS was my jam). I understand what can happen in an instant.
There is no way she’s going to say her knee gave out. I do hope her injury is not something that will effect her mobility in her future.until she comes out and says what happened I am not going to second guess her ... and I am not going to crap on an athlete when they are injured after trying their best.
It is such a wonderful feeling to ski. I think I started when I was 3... my baby skis were mounted on the wall on the lodge they were so tiny. I was lucky to live near ski mountains, so I had the opportunity as a kid to ski a lot. Colorado is a great place for skiing, I would love to go sometimeThat’s so cool! Anyone else watching USA going for gold in luge on USA Network?

ooof... I hope it is not her femur.I'm reading Vonn underwent surgery to stabilize a left leg fracture.
She is being treated by a team of US and Italian physicians.
Yeah looks like she took a tight line, hits the gate which throws off her equilibrium in flight and causes her wreck.View attachment 1046176
From the AP News updates....

She literally stole the opportunity to ski in the Olympics from a team mate just so she could enact a heartwarming and inspiring comeback. Instead of capping off a storied career, she soiled it with selfishness and hubris. I really lost all respect for her.
Edited, I meant to come into this thread earlier in the week to say she should NOT ski.
