Dab N Stic Glue

OK I need some help please from all you scrapbooking folks. I am not a scrapbooker and I usually hang out on the budget board as well as a few others. I came down here to visit to find out where is the best place to find this product, what to expect to pay and the most economical place to get some. For my son's school supply list I have to get 6 bottles. I did find it at JoAnn but it looked like there were 2 or 3 on the post and it was $2.99 each. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. By the way after looking through your board and some of the pictures of your spaces and rooms I am rethinking the non scrapbooking status in my life--you all know how to tempt a girl.........Jenn (Thank God for the internet otherwise I would not even know what this product was)

Hey thanks. I did just do a little more looking around and found that there is a dab n stic school glue product. I had previously only found the scrapbook one. I think i will check over at the school which they are asking for. The list is very specific and states to only get the brands listed. You can prepurchase a pack with the whole list in it, but it is like $75 and most of the list is cheap when the school supply sales hit. Anything you cannot find you can purchase seperately from the school store. I suppose I will check that too--I just figured with the price of the pack that it was going to be full retail there and I was trying to be budget minded--especially since the tuition requries close budgeting on everything.

dumb question here from old grandma - why does one child need 6 bottles of glue? A mom could go broke!

What grade is your child in?- my students don't go through a bottle of glue in a year unless they are playing around. I have 3rd graders and we do a number of projects but I have to agree that 6 bottles seems excessive.

Been there, didn't do that! I was told the reason for this was so the child didn't go without. Some parents don't send in more supplies when they need to be replenished and this eliminates borrowing from others. Having said that, I feel this can also encourage waste. We had a list like this when my kids were in first grade- 4 bottles of glue, 4 24 packs of crayons, 48 pencils, etc... What they do (at least at our school) is put all the "extras" in a large storage bag with the child's name on it, then they are stored in tubs. When the child needs something, they get it from their bag. Their names had to be on each item, including every pencil, every crayon, etc. I refused to do it. I talked to the teacher at the start of the year and explained what I would do. My kids got one bottle of glue, one box of crayons, a dozen pencils, several erasers, etc. I am at the school enough to check my kids supplies on a regular basis. Plus I make them bring home their supply box at Christmas break. If they tell me or I see that they are getting low on something, I send it in. I stock up during the sales when supplies are really cheap and store them in an under the bed storage container.

On the last day of school, the bag is sent home- most of it untouched! On top of all the other things they have to take home, this just added more weight to their backpacks. It's crazy if you ask me.

I know here... the kids get a supply list and some of it is put into the "storage" area...and returns home.. I definitely reuse that returns the following year..but its very frustrating.
I agree 6 bottles of glue is ridiculous.. I have kids from K-Freshman in high school..and I have never sent in 6 bottles of glue.. I'm with kaddjr.. I also will send in a set amount...and than I will replinish.. my kids are really good about letting me know when they need supplies...
I know my jr. higher need a binder and dividers for each class.. Well, this year.. only one teacher used them.. only one of the 7... yet we had to buy 7 of them! The ones that the teachers didn't use.. she brought home and we have them stored for next year. I also found some great binders for a 1.00 the other day at Walmart..they were regular 2.99...Not a big savings..but a nice savings. I hit the sales when school supplies go out too... 10 cent crayon packs rule! LOL 5 cent folders! We stock up on those..
As for the brand name requirement.. Not happening with me..and crayon is a crayon! Now, I will follow the rules about the "non-mechincal" pencils...but that is about it...

Our parents don't have the money to send in those supplies. I ask for 1 of each thing except things we use more of during the year. Anything they don't use immeadiately goes into community supplies (Paper, tissues, wet wipes, index cards) and I give it out to everyone when we use it. We try to keep our supply list so it will be under $20 at the most. Many times it will cost less than that if you hit sales. I have never named a brand except for germex that we use when we go to playground and lunch.

My child is going into Kindergarten
Yes I think this is a lot of glue--the bottles are small so I don't know if they go through them faster--like a glue stick, but I am new to this
It is a private school so I have no idea if they even considered cost
None of the items are to be labled, I believe this is probably stocking the classroom for the school year, I think it will be a community supply. I suppose maybe in K they have some accidents with overuse of glue so they are over anticipating.
Yes all the brands are specified on the list such as crayola washable broad tipped classic color markers. I really don't mind as most of the list can be bought during the back to school sales very reasonably. I think it is so all are the same and no one is arguing over which scissors they are using out of the basket--I suppose color will be issue enough and by the way those have to be fiskars sharp point school scissors.
I guess next year I will know better and can make different decisions, but for this year I am just going to have to follow the list. What I am not going to do is pay the $75 fee to just have the supplies bundled and provided for us, I am sure it has got to be cheaper than that. I did find a six pack of the ab n stic school glue online for 8.50 and I know this will be my most expensive item on the list.
You all sound like much more expirienced parents than I and I will definately take some of your suggestions. Thankfully there do not appear to be additional fees for other things--those are included in tuition Soooo, I guess I am already paying those fees. I will not complain though, it is a great school and we choose to go this route, I cannot complain about tuition when that is a choice, not something forced on anyone. Thanks again Jenn. --I might have to make a scrapbook page of the first day of school with my child lugging 6 bottles of glue.
