D23 Destination D 2016: Amazing Adventures - FULL AGENDA post 132 (pg7)

Any speculation on the Polynesian Event on Saturday night? Should we eat first?

I'm super curious about the 5 minute "Special Announcement from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment". Anyone have any guesses on that? The Finding Dory video release date is 11/15, could it be something related to that?

My guess is a luau show with light snacks and Dole Whips. Personally, I'm skipping this one. Magic Kingdom is open until 1 AM for resort guests that night, and 7+ hours of park time sounds like more fun that a Hawaiian show.

There's a possibility for that extra park admission I have coming.

Maybe there will be more specifics announced before the start of the Poly party?

I'm not up for skipping anything before I've been there or heard what they're doing, Moana is starting that week, maybe they would even put up a preview of it on the lawn? Or there's some food and Moana the character is out? It starts early enough that I'll just head over there, check it out, if it's cool, I'll stay, if not, go to MK. :) Better go and see than be sorry later.

Looking over the Program it would appear that there will not be any opportunities for Meet & Greets with panel members. For those who have attended before, Would that be a correct assumption? I am guessing that maybe VIPs might be the exception and be able to meet with some guests at their Friday night event.

Last time we were able to meet Bob Gurr because he was willing to take pics with people during a longer break. I am seriously hoping for Joe Rohde to be approachable somehow so he can sign something for me - as well as Tony Baxter - but I would not plan on it happening, just treat it as an added bonus if it does. :) Btw is anyone here a VIP? I would be curious to hear what they get extra.

No meet and greets at the last Destination D. I was a VIP last time, and we did get a meet and greet with Tony Baxter and Marty Sklar. However, some of the general public folks ran into them around the convention center, and Bob Gurr walked around the auditorium once, but you are correct that there are no formal meet and greets.

I was a VIP last time and will be again this time. In terms of extras and differences:

1) We had a separate line to check in.
2) Our gift bag had some extra things in it.)
3) We got into the Archives exhibit and Mickey's of Glendale two hours before they opened to the general admission folks on Friday.
4) We had a VIP only event on Friday night. Last time, we got to ride Carousel of Progress with Tony Baxter and Marty Sklar, followed by a meet and greet with them, then a private dinner at Fort Wilderness. As I write this, they have not announced any details of what they plan for this time.
5) We didn't have to wait in line to enter the auditorium. We had a lounge with snacks and coffee that we sat in. 15 minutes before they let the general public into the auditorium, they would come get us and escort us in first so we could choose our seats.
6) The first three rows of the auditorium were reserved for VIPs.
7) We got a extra little gift as a parting gift.

Again, this was all what happens last time. As I write this, they haven't distributed any agenda to the VIPs. I'm assuming basically the same stuff, but you never know.

From last Destination D, the Friday night VIP event was a private experience on Carousel of Progress. Marty Sklar, Tony Baxter, and Becky Cline (Archives Director) gave short speeches on the history of the Carousel, then we watched the show. When it was over, Tony had them advance the theater to the first scene, and we each got individual pictures with Tony and Marty with the show going on behind us. Here's my pic. :-)

Last pic, I promise! While not from Destination D, it still fits into the conversation (I think). After day 2 of D23 Expo 2015, I met up with some friends at Trader Sam's at the Disneyland Hotel. When we finally got a table, we were lucky enough to be sitting across the way from Joe Rohde and his team. I got over my social anxiety to walk over to just say "hi", but it turned into an over 20 minute conversation about his design philosophies, how they manifest themselves at Animal Kingdom, and how Avatar will fit into it. It was like a master class in theme park design. So, for those of you hoping to meet him at Destination D, while there is no formal meet and greet, he is very approachable and appreciative of fans wanting to talk.

Oh wow so jealous :) I met Joe Rohde during D23 Expo where I was Sorcerer - just dumb luck though cause they were taking pics of him for press releases or sth in the Pandora exhibit. I would love for him to sign the picture :)

:yay: We should be getting ours soon. Just about 3 weeks till we leave.

Here is what I noted about tickets in a previous post -

There is a link for park tickets once you have purchased Destination D admission. To answer your question, no, they are good for other days besides Saturday and Sunday. As convention guests you can buy longer multi-day tickets or multiple after 3pm or single day admissions. Sunday begins a blackout period from 11/20 - 11/26 though for after 3pm tickets. The website has all the details. Multi day tickets expire 14 days after first use. All tickets expire 12/31/2017. Tickets are for use by convention attendees and their guests during your stay.

ETA: This is incorrect! I'm sorry. The blackout dates are all in 2017.

Black out dates....I think the site has a typo.. I was just there and saw this... 1D After 3 PM MK 10+(NOT VALID 3/20-4/2/16, 11/20-11/26/17, 12/25-1/1/17, 4/9-4/16/17, 11/19-11/25/17, 12/25-1/1/18)... I think it means Nov 20-26 2016 (even though it reads 2017).... because if you read the list, it's
March/April 2016
Nov 2017
Dec/Jan 2016-2017
April 2017
Dec/Jan 2017-2018
so in date order, I think that Nov 20 is meant to be 2016, so be careful.

For after 3pm tickets, I'm not seeing what you are seeing. This screenshot below doesn't list 2016 or 2018 dates. I am looking at the convention link that came in my D23 confirmation email here:
https://disneytickets.disney.go.com/store/101/welcome.html?departureMonth=11&departureDay=21&departureYear=2016&arrivalMonth=11&arrivalDay=16&arrivalYear=2016&param1=D23 Destination

Buyer Beware!!
