D23 2015

I am so excited for Star Wars. I am hoping to make it for Disney World's 50th celebration, so it should be done. Toy Story Land looks awesome too!

After our next trip in October, I was thinking we'd take 2-3 years off from Disney while we spent our vacation money elsewhere. Now I think it will be closer to 5 or 6. It's hard to be excited about Star Wars when it's just so far away from being fully realized. I'll be keeping an eye on it with anticipation, but I really can't see going until this is done. We started going to Disney in 2011, and watching New Fantasyland being slowly unveiled was painful, the AK work is even worse, and based on the current state of DHS, I think this is going to be even worse. Hopefully it will be worth the wait, but I think this time I'm going to wait until the end rather than paying for half a finished product in the interim years.

While the Toy Story coaster looks pretty neat, nothing in that area looks to be particularly innovative, so I assume they're going to try to get that stuff done super quick to at least fill the void at DHS while everyone waits for Star Wars Land. At least, that's what I hope they do.

OK so heres a run down

Star Wars
14 acre land coming to both DL and DHS
2 big attractions including the biggest disney has ever done. Millennium falcon and battle ride are the two rides.
Cantina confirmed
blue milk also coming
Sources are saying no sooner than 2020 opening
Jedi academy getting updated
Star wars launch bay coming to both DL and DHS
Star tours getting updated
hyperspace mountain coming to space mountain disneyland
new firework show coming to DHS
Star wars likely to have two rides plus more attractions due to the size of this land

Toy Story Land
11 acres
2 rides. Green alien ride similar to mater junkyard jamboree and slinky dog coaster

Other DHS observations and assumptions
even with the sizes of these lands there is more space available around where LMA and Muppets is. Its likely not everything was announced today. Lots of infrastructure work is coming to DHS. Name change will likely come closer to completion.

Epcot/DCA
Soarin around the world to debut in 2016

AK
Kilimanjaro Safaris will get extension, nighttime version and more animals (hyenas)
Rivers of light will use water, lights, and fire. The tree of life will have projections on it
Official avatar land name Pandora: land of Avatar
Flight of Passage is the name of banshee ride
no name for boat ride but it will be fluid, romantic and for families.

Also reminder there is another D23 expo this year in Japan in November.

Did I read correctly that Star Wars will replace Toontown in DL? If true that surprises me.

Those were the rumors, but I guess i repeated a wrong rumor

http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...tar-wars-themed-lands-d23-20150815-story.html
The new land is targeted to replace Disneyland’s Big Thunder Ranch and take over backstage areas currently not accessible to guests, a company spokesperson said, adding that speculation “Star Wars” would replace or impinge on Mickey's Toontown was unfounded.

I feel like toy story land is kind of a let down. Only 2 attractions, neither of which seem e-ticket worthy? I was hoping for more.

I'm sort of disappointed about the Flying Saucers, but the Slinky coaster looks like it could be a great family coaster. The whole land looks like it could be thematically excellent.

If Star Wars land stretches out into the woods south of HS instead of west into the Streets of America, and Toy Story Land remains mostly behind (west of) TSMM, then there's still area to expand in the future. The Toy Story land seems like it dead-ends past the Saucers and it would make a nice little gateway into another smallish land.

To counter that, however, unless Star Wars land takes over Streets of America, LMA, and Muppets, it's going to leave a very odd little corner area of that park bookended by the two expansions. My money is on moving the Muppets and closing LMA and Streets.

Would anyone know when they would start taking reservations for the new jungle cruise themed restaurant at MK? Will it be before it opens or after? We are coming late january and might try it. Maybe it will be a counter service.

Disappointed in lack of timelines and in Toy Story Land. Pixar Land would have been the better theme, even if it was gonna be all kid rides. And since a good park needs at least 20 "attractions" (like even Disney MGM circa 2000 had), can't see why they are only adding TWO easy family rides for TSL (especially after all the recent closures). 4-5 would have made more sense and would have been much easier if the theme was more expansive. Whether anyone likes or hates all the recent attraction closings, they are "crowd sucks" and without having those attractions and without replacing them in number, Studios will be a much less pleasant park after 3 FP+s...there will be nowhere for the crowds to go...

Star Wars will hold the e tickets. Toy story is about family experiences.

Feels like wasted potential. Why not have both family rides AND an e-ticket? I guess they are assuming TSMM IS the e-ticket for that area and said "good enough"?

Is the list of closed attractions actually that long? American Idol, Disney Animation, Backlot Tour, that Pirates thing.... what am I missing?

There's lots of additional rumored closures certainly, but we don't know for sure which of those are real.

I also note that they only announced rides at the event. That doesn't conclusively mean there will be no other attractions. I mean we are talking about a 25 acre area after all.

In a park with less than 20 attractions already, closing over 20% of them with no current replacement is a huge hit (and One Man's Dream will likely make it over 25% in a few months). Frozen in Forever "replaced" Sounds Dangerous from a few years ago...but nothing is replacing the crowd and time sucks of the 4 attractions closed the last 12 months (and they all either took a lot of time or a lot of people or both) for another 12 months min...Planning to only put back 50% or less of those attractions with no crowd suck type attraction (while there are also rumors for many more ride/attraction closures to fit Star Wars for 5-6 years from now) will not be enough to make the park a full day of fun after the precious 3 FP+s are gone...it's gonna be a rough 5-6 years til we can see if Star Wars has the amazing draw and coolness to bring the park back to its former top-flight status...

And it's not like this had to be a huge money throw by Disney - just putting in an extra "balloon ride" from UP like Winnie the Pooh and an extra Incredibles sky-flying ride like Peter-Pan to the 2 suggested items would be enough...something Pixar cool, completely family friendly (and yet cool enough for adults to want to see) and with a smallish footprint would transform the area from "doing the minimum" to "really trying to fill the need for the wait to Star Wars"...

It's safe to assume that there will also be shows or other types of attraction in Star Wars than just the rides.

Well a lot depends on what you say is a E ticket.....I don't think it has to be a *thrill ride* to be a E ticket. It could be new techno and or new type tracks or ride cars, etc.

I think &DMT is a E ticket, and yes I know many disagree and that's of. However to me the theming, animation and new technos in the attraction, put it in E Ticket ground.
