D23 2015

It sounds like to me they're basically going to do SWW on both coasts, but instead of it just being on weekends, it's going to include weekdays, too. After SWW this year, we received a HUGE in-depth survey that included a lot of questions about why we went to SWW and whether we were going to Disney JUST for SWW (which we were). Because we all know this construction is going to take forever--and even if they start now, it's going to be at least 3 years--so they need SOMETHING to keep the Star Wars momentum in the parks. By Star Wars having a seasonal presence from say April to June (i.e., Spring Break to Summer vacation) they'll give guests a reason to go to Disney during a traditional slower time, and it won't cost anything other than staffing if all they do is have characters run around.

That would make sense to me. With the phrasing of "early next year", it just got me worrying that they would move SWW up, or something. I'm counting (right now) on end of May. It would make sense to keep it in the timeframe people have become accustomed to.

It just bugs me that DVC opens for booking 11 months out (or 7 months out for non-home resort), and they don't even announce DATES for SWW until early Dec... 5.5 months out! Same for most if not all events. We have two different sets of points with different use years, different booking deadlines, banking deadlines, etc. etc. -- it's CRAZY planning with so many variables and making sure we don't lose points or the like. :(

It's always that time frame so I don't know why you would need confirmation other than that.
I suspect (and hope!!) that you're right. With all the changes, I would just love confirmation from Disney on that to put my currently-spinning mind at ease! :)

Well, my original look at the rendering is all wrong, because if what I thought was TSMM really is, then Toy Story land is all in the middle of the park and overriding GMR, and we know that's not right...

I always said DHS had the most confusing layout of the parks, and I think that's making it even harder for me to figure out. I'm still hoping someone can say for sure what building on the rendering is TSMM. OK, so there's a square-ish building on the left side about halfway up - is THAT it, and everything else is behind it? Or are we looking at the whole thing upsidedown and backwards? My brain hurts.

It's been rumored that they will change the entrance of TSMM to the other side of the building, so Toy Story land should be built in current backstage areas. In the artwork, TSMM is probably located on the left, I think. In this area, possibly?

By the way, the family coaster seems longer and more detailed than I thought.

part of me is excited for all of the expansions/retheming, and part of me is questioning what happens when TS becomes dated? i know kids today are as obsessed with it as they were 20 years ago, but it's not the same as SW where they've got a plan for multiple new movies, plus banking on almost 40 years of fans already.

it was also my understanding that the DHS reinvention would be taking us away from looking at behind the scenes, and more of being in the movies themselves. and with that, these announcements make sense, but for two movie franchises only. it just seems limited?

of course i'll still be there as soon as time and money allow... :)

also wondering, and maybe it was mentioned and i just wasn't reading, but is SWL in anaheim going into DL proper or DCA? edit: i just reread it's going into DL. what will happen to the rest of tomorrowland?

the rundisney fan in me hopes this means a coast-to-coast SW race isn't far off.

It almost seems like it's going to be less a roller coaster and more of a railroad around the entire land. I'm thinking it's going to be almost a hybrid of the two things...faster moving than a railroad, but definitely more of something where you're looking at the surroundings rather than going on it for the thrills.

This looks like it's going to be a really fun area for families, but definitely not a center for thrill rides.

Yeah, I can see some sort of hybrid as well. I don't know how accurately this artwork represents the final design of the coaster, but it seems like it will have a couple of nice thrilling segments with some falls and bits of airtime, but with enough slower parts to look at the surroundings. Somewhat similar to 7DMT, perhaps?

If that POV video is representative then its a coaster and not a train. Perhaps quite tame by the standards of coaster fans, but people like me who don't do coasters aren't going to be wanting to do it. :D

So you don't do the new 7 dwarfs coaster, cause that kind of looks like the same mechanics

I did it once so I could see the animatronics, didn't enjoy it though.

I quite enjoy motion simulators, but I don't do well with coasters. This would be worse though if it's bare steel because I suffer from serious vertigo.

DHS get Star Wars fireworks show
*Shows up late with Starbucks in hand*

Symphony in the Stars was the best fireworks show available at WDW IMO and if they made it into a regular show there is a good chance that I would be at DHS every night. I am almost more excited about it than the actual rides

Sounds like it might remain just a SWW event. :( Quote from the Parks Blog: "Disney’s Hollywood Studios will feature a new fireworks spectacular set to the iconic score of the Star Wars movies on weekend nights."

I wouldn't doubt it. Rumors have been that the current street you enter TSMM on will become backstage and the entrance to TSMM will be reworked for this.
I wonder if that would work better with fireworks?
Currently, they have to close TSMM at 8:45p every night before the 9:30 Frozen fireworks

I guess they move Star Tours out?
The DL Star Wars land should be replacing Mickey's house (and Toontown / Roger Rabbit ride)

It seems odd to me that they would take this time to announce an already scheduled event (since I belive SitS was in its 2nd year?) in the midst of new projects. If they took the minutes to promote this show, then I imagine it will be something that exists for more than 15 nights a year

Maybe the show will just be on weekends, but will inclode weekends outside of those 5? DLR only shows their fireworks on the weekends during the off season, so I'm imagining a schedule like that.

Edit: I'm rereading things now and it sounds like the new firework show is a Season of the Force thing which makes sense. (misunderstandings happen when I try to catch up on 5 hours of information in a few minutes) I'm still hoping that those fireworks become more regular thing though. Disney can rest easy knowing that I would absolutely be in attendance every showing, so their efforts would be worth it :)
