Hi @AKL Ranger I think I majorly goofed and I need to apologize to you.

You mentioned a few pages back wanting to remove the negativity of a “no” answer on the original poll. So the new poll I was thinking both votes are now in the affirmative to gauge positive interest without a “no” option.
1st choice: Yes create the space, I will contribute as a POC or ally
2nd choice: Yes create the space, I don’t have anything to contribute (meaning I am here just to listen)

I voted the latter to show my support but in a listening only role. Now looking at the poll today with fresh eyes I am not certain that’s what it means. I want to change my vote but it’s locked.

I apologize for not being more diligent to ask questions to clarify first. Thank you for the work you are putting into this. If you can clarify please (although I am pretty sure I misunderstood) and please edit the option on the poll to allow us to change our votes I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I'm sure your initial interpretation must be the correct one! Surely this lovely, well-intentioned group of people would have no need to be so snide. <3

I thought the members of this group might appreciate reading this important piece about the abysmal treatment of a Brown Muslim woman during her time at Pixar. :sad1::mad:
https://medium.com/@sterling.mom2/my-experiences-of-systemic-racism-and-sexism-at-pixar-a529d1abc7b6
Thank you @JacknSally for sharing this important story. It is yet another lesson of systemic racism in the workplace, not just for our White Allies, but for people of all colors.
The linked article "My experiences of systemic racism and sexism at Pixar" is a heart-wrenching example of corporate abuse experienced by many women, particularly women of color. What makes this article more heartbreaking is as a woman of color & a new mother, to be stressed out and threatened with the loss of employment. Systemic racism, using the excuses of "poor work performance", "makes fellow employees uncomfortable" or "person of color is too standoffish, or too confident or carries themselves like they are better than everyone else, and that is disruptive to the team." Calling out those excuses for what is privileged persons in power. Using their power over people they assume are too afraid to speak out.
his outragous exchange;
During sessions where DA would berate and humiliate my friend, she told my friend that she was “not subservient enough”. The fact that DA expected Black women to be “subservient” and said that is RACIST and unacceptable! Other micro-aggressions by DA included telling my Black friend that she was “too confident” and “egalitarian”.
Did the White female executive (DA) think she was "Scarlette" from "Gone with the Wind"? Instead of being treated as a respected co-worker, performing her duties as an Administrative Assistant, the White executive (DA) treated her employee like the character "Mammie" played by Hattie McDaniel.
Images of people of color still expected to "bow and scrape while walking out a room backward and all the while not "sassing" the person in charge, in the 21st Century is disturbing.
I originally intended to insert a photo or 1950's era advertising illustration of a Black Pullman Railroad car waiter bowing and scraping, yes there were actual advertisements featuring those images. Who can forget "Aunt Jemima" before she wore pearl earrings? Enough of those negative illustrations that do nothing more than further stigmatize all people of color.
Instead, this commentary needed a photo that best exemplifies the feeling of many people of color. An example of what being a person of color feels like not just here in the USA, but across the Atlantic in the UK.

A photo shot by one of my heroes, the extremely talented, the late Mr. Gordon Parks, sums up what a lifetime of being a person of color in America can feel like, at times.
While the events of the first six months of the year 2020, this captures what it does feel like. It also serves as an image of how some Disney fans of color feel when we experience a negative, less than magical experience in the parks. In an effort to extinguish any negative/ hate posts, one person can not diminish a person or group of people's individual or shared experiences, that you have been fortunate to not experience.

Good News for Disney Sci-Fi fans

I am a huge fan of the Tron movie series. The original Tron for its groundbreaking (at the time of production 1982) computer graphics. The sequel Tron: Legacy (2010) raised the bar again with dramatic graphic effects presenting the game grid.
"Tron: Legacy" starred Garrett Hedlund as Sam Flynn, son of the game programmer & video game programmer Kevin Flynn played by Jeff Bridges ( cool dude).

Garrett Hedlund current film deserves to be mentioned "Burden" (production 2018/released in 2020)
I believe this movie is streaming on Amazon Prime

Starring the amazing Mr. Forest Whitaker is a haunting timely motion picture about redemption and healing at a time when the issue of Race and forgiveness seems impossible, especially in the year 1966. I hope the teaser just made everyone eager to see the movie.

Let us return to the Game Grid.......

The rumor mill is churning this week about a new Tron movie coming from Disney and starring actor Jared Leto. This is the first news that's hit about a new Tron movie since it was revealed in March that a new Tron series being created for Disney Plus by 12 Years a Slave screenwriter John Ridley was scrapped.

Newsweek reports:
Tron: Legacy may have been released a decade ago, but it seems that Disney may be going ahead with a sequel, the third movie in the franchise set in a computer world. Tron 3, which was once called Tron: Ascension and was rumored to be starring Jared Leto, could be coming soon, with Daft Punk returning from the last movie to provide another soundtrack.

What we know about Tron 3
The script is done
Speaking on the Light the Fuse podcast, Disney music executive Mitchell Leib provided a progress update on the threequel. He said: "We've got a great script, I mean a really phenomenal script that we're very excited about. Whereas the timing wasn't right to have done it years ago, I think we feel like the timing is right now, and I feel like we've learned a lot of lessons from that last movie."

Is anyone else a fan of the Tron movie series or the Tron: Uprising animated series?
I can talk about Tron all day, just wait for the Tron Light Cycle Power Run opens in the Magick Kingdom 2021/2022.
Peace & Light-Cycles for everyone

 UPDATE: I created a new Poll at the top of this thread, please cast your vote on this updated poll, even if you voted in the previous poll.

Hi there Fellow Dis'ers.
I have experienced sincere warmth and welcomes from Pete, John and Kevin, Corey and @Ryno. When attending past events, I have to look around and ask "where are the Black & Brown, Disney fans of color?" I know you are out there because I am not the only Brown man who loves Disney.

The creation of "D.O.C.'s" Dis'ers Of Color is not meant to separate people, instead, let us create a forum topic for Dis'er Of Color and our allies. "Allies" are anyone and everyone who is willing to share and contribute positively while respecting the experiences/ views of people of color.
The intent is to explore topics that promote diversity and inclusion from the viewpoint of people of color. We can discuss a wide range of topics including; "Who else was glad to see the Dixie Landings Resort sign come down?" Has anyone see Pocahontas and Tianna lately?" What do you think of Disney's latest nod to cultural awareness, Disney's announcement of re-theming of "Splash Moutain redo as "Princess Tianna & Friends Bayou Splash?"
What do you all think of a "D.O.C.'s" forum/ Topic? "Doc" is one of my favorite dwarfs.

If you do not understand a reference or viewpoint, there is no shame asking questions, it is better to ask than make statements out of ignorance. I ask everyone to be respectful of each other. Negative, or hate speech will not be tolerated.

I have submitted a request for the creation of a dedicated Official Forum D.O.C.'s ( Dis'ers Of Color & Allies)
I created a Poll question there, hopefully, if we get enough votes, Dis Board Admins will approve our request, please be sure to visit and cast your vote.

Wishing you all Peace and Love and the love of things Disney.

Be well and stay safe. Wear a face mask if not for yourself, for the health of someone you care about.

I thought we're all supposed to be color blind. This sounds divisive to me.

Whoever told you we were supposed to be color blind?

That's the exact opposite thing you should be doing. We should celebrate diversity, not pretend it doesn't exist. We also acknowledge that different races have had different experiences than us, almost assuredly worse than ours as a group... being "color blind" also blinds you from the truth of those experiences.

I have... never seen any of the Tron movies. :duck: They are on my list, though! I will add Burden, too - thank you for the suggestion!

Hi, @AKL Ranger! Thanks for starting this thread and hopefully forum. I've been spending extra time browsing the disboards since I've been working from home, and I wanted to join in the conversation as an ally who shares your love for Animal Kingdom! It's so detailed and beautiful. I love the rides and the atmosphere there.

Also, your post about Tron 3 got me excited! I just recently watched both of the Tron movies for the first time, and they were so good. Definitely impressed by what they were able to do graphics wise with the first film. I feel like it still holds up well. I really enjoyed Tron: Legacy, too. The soundtrack was awesome and the whole new futuristic look was great. As for Tron 3, I'm on board for Daft Punk doing the soundtrack again, but I'm not quite sure about Jared Leto. Although I just saw some pictures of him from Blade Runner 2049 (another movie I need to add to my quarantine watch list), and it sold me that he might make a good Tron villain if that's what he's set to play.

I agree with this, and have the same reaction whenever someone says "color blind."

<edited .... WMJ>

I have to admit, I've only seen the first Tron movie when it was first released. Anyone remember the world of Tron section on the DL People Mover? Really dating myself with that one...

I love Tron so much, I had it on VHS cassette as a kid and wore the tape out lol! I still haven't seen Tron: Legacy but gf loves it. It's one of those movies I just never got around to and was one of the first things on my D+ list. I'm really glad to hear about a 3rd one being made.

I'm also super excited for the Tron ride at MK, especially since I never thought it would be in the cards for me to ride it (Asia is a distant credit card points goal, even more distant in these times). I dream of Gina Torres in the preshow video, if only because the other one she's in is for a ride I can't do. I didn't realize I was claustrophobic until I went on Mission Space and that console moved forward!

Although I too at one point thought I should raise my kids not to see color, I've come to realize pretty quickly that it's the wrong way of thinking. My 6yo can clearly see that the best friend he had in daycare (before he left) had a different skin color than him or that our neighbors look differently than we do. Yes he should treat these people in our lives the same way he would treat someone with white skin, but he also needs to know that we unfortunately live in a world where because he's simply a white male he's seen as the superior being in our society. I don't need to teach him to make sure his hands aren't in his pockets when he enters a store like his friends mom will have to (although hopefully things will be different by the time they're young adults). I think saying we shouldn't see color is the easy way out and not recognizing that the problem exists and turning a blind eye is part of the problem.

You might be interested in this trip report if you haven't already seen it A HalloXmas trip to Asia - Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo!

So far, she has tons of pictures of Shanghai Disneyland (Tron ride included). I'm looking forward to reading about her time in Tokyo once she gets to that part. I got a travel credit card a while back with the goal of saving up points to book a flight over to Tokyo, but like you said, that won't be happening for a while. So in the meantime I'm going to live vicariously through other people that have been there 😆

"Colorblindness" is actually culturally disrespectful. The statement "I do not see color" is an attempt to ignore a person's cultural identity. People use this statement thinking it makes them "not racist", when in actuality it does the opposite.
To put this in Disney terms, it would be like waling up to "Mulan" and not acknowledging her Chinese heritage and 1,000 years of Chinese culture. Or not acknowledging "Princess Merida's" Celtic heritage.
Here is an academic explanation from a teacher who happens to be White.

I was referring to color blindness more In terms of work and employment. An employer has a job that needs to be done in the most timely, cost effective way possible to be able to compete successfully in the marketplace. Employers should be color blind in terms of hiring and getting the job done and culture plays zero part.

Certainly race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and more should not be involved in employment decisions. Unfortunately, today they very much are. And that's part of what so many people are fighting for - equality.
