EVERYONE OUT THERE!!!!!!!!

There's GOING TO BE A MEET in DC AUGUST 29th!!!!!!

Be there, or be square!!!

Would be there in a heartbeat if possible - August 27th Mia and leave for a week in St Augustine to check it out for a possible move in the next few months. Some people think I'm nuts calling it a vacation - 2 days of driving (overnight to break it up) with a toddler and 15 and 17 yr old pups. Hey, I'll take what I can get and call it an adventure!!!:dance3:

Christine where is St Augustine ????

Northeast Florida!! 2 1/2 hours from The Mouse! Of course, it costs more to fly to Orlando from there than from here (NC) or Boston. :confused3 Mia says she would not mind driving me at all, so Rosie you know what that means for future trips, dontcha? FLORIDA RESIDENT RATE!!!

St. Augustine is the oldest city in the U.S. - very pretty and historical...but known for it's many GHOSTS!!!:scared1:

Ah nutz, no going on down south??!! :scared1: I"m soooooooooo sad!! Lunch IS better than nothing, though, and you KNOW I'm excited for that!!

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I'm flying into Baltimore, and if we timed it right, we could all ride into Bethesda together. I think my sis will pick me up, but I do have other options from there as well, including the train.

What time does your flight get in? That would be great if we could meet up. Since I've never been in the area, we can get lost together! :thumbsup2 You mentioned something about a train? Is there a train that goes into Bethesda that you can get from the airport? Let me know!!!

Liessa who all is meeting in DC !!!!???? Looks like 2 more are joining you!!!!:banana:

YAYYYYYYYYYY! More DIS peeps to meet :dance3: It's going to be a grand ole time!

I could dye my hair RED for the part!!!!!:lmao::lmao: Do I have to crush grapes ???:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Especially if I Love Lucy is involved. Not only will you have to crush grapes, but be Vita-Veta-Vegamin Girl "It's so tasty too - hiccup!" :rotfl2:

I left you last with the fragrant images of tropical paradises, resplendent with the scent of jasmine; Polynesian sounds of Tiki-style drumming; lying on the white sand beach dreaming of Magical Kingdoms across the lagoon. Are you with me here, People??

Let’s switch gears somewhat, and focus now on a completely different kind of southern locale; not of South Seas Islands, but of southern states where plantations stand nobly, surrounded by cypress trees and cotton fields. Picture it now, a hot summer afternoon – time for an afternoon rest on the wraparound porch, sipping a mint julep or ice cold lemonade.

Mint, the uncontrollable, yet often welcomed garden plant grows everywhere, but especially well in the South. It’s refreshing, crisp, and memorable- perfect for a Port Orleans “Scent of the Trip”!! Why, because I clearly associate mint juleps with Bayous. How is that, you ask. Well, about a lifetime ago, I worked at Disneyland’s Blue Bayou Restaurant, and every day I’d pass a little kiosk that sold Mint Juleps (non-alcoholic, of course!). I never bothered to splurge and treat myself to one, and will, to this day, regret that. Not anymore! This is the trip that that gets fixed. To help make mint the scent of this part of my stay, I’ve done a little shopping, yet once again started with something I had. Something VERY special to me, and brings back a flood of memories

Of my Grandmother.

Those of you who’ve been following this PTR since last year, know that almost 1 year ago EXACTLY my Grandmother passed away. She was VERY dear to me, and I spend a lot of my childhood by her side. I’d spend long, wonderful weeks at a time at her home in Glendale, CA, and of course, at least once a year she’d treat me to a day at Disneyland- just she and I. Our favorite was Pirates of the Caribbean, and of course that brings us right back to Bayous, and the south.
When Grandma passed away, I flew back to the US to help my mother go through her things. I was given many things to pass along to my own children, but also was told to help myself to anything I’d need immediately- shoes, medications, you name it. On her bathroom counter was a little tube of lotion- Mary Kay Mint something or rather lotion. It was intoxicating at first sniff. I fell I love with it, and now it will forever remind me of her. It is going with me on this trip, and somehow, in that scent, she will “be with me”.

But, to round out the mint collection, I also ordered a few things:

First, some peppermint soap for $4.95. I’m sure I’ll not even come close to using it all, so I’ll make sure to bring a couple ziplock bags to put my leftover soapies in. For weeks to come, I’ll be able to remember my stay at POR! I like its candy-like appearance too, don’t you?

I also splurged on some mint bath salts. By the time I’m done taking my bath, I oughta stink like a walking mint julep without even getting one at the YeeHaw Bob Show!! Which is where I plan to pay tribute to my Granny, by getting all silly, and doing the Hokey Pokey in her honor. She was the queen of silly, and had a wicked sense of humor, so this is the perfect way to remember her!

And now for those of you who feel so inclined, here’s a recipe to leave you with…

3 US fl. Oz. Bourbon Whiskey
4-6 sprigs mint leaves
Granulated sugar to taste
2 tsp. water

Put mint, sugar, and a small amount of crushed or shaved ice into the bottom of a julep cup or tall glass. (Optional: Muddle the mint and sugar, then let stand for a bit to allow the broken leaves to release their flavor.) Add bourbon whiskey, top off with crushed or shaved ice, and stir well to mix and chill the mixture

Cheers to Grandma!

I know how difficult it must be for you, sad and happy all at the same time.

My sister and I have already gone through my mother's closets, and it's a terrible and heartwarming task. Let me tell you, that woman had a pressed powder compact in every single purse she owned. She was always prepared! :lmao:

And for me, the scent that most reminds me of Mom currently is the Laila perfume from Norway in Epcot. If you have a chance, take a whiff. It's overpowering in the store, but on Mom, it was delightful.

I think the mint is a great way to honor the resort and your granny, and although I can't enjoy that recipe right now, I'm definitely filing it away for a few weeks for now. ;)

I think you need a hat, to wear while you drink your fah-bu-lous mint julep darling!

I'd have gone with Magnolia but I love the reason why you picked mint!

I'll be there :banana:Red hair, grape crushing Granny!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:Liessa have you warned the local TV stations that a CRAZY BUNCH is heading their way !!!:lmao::lmao:

Guess I should make that call soon!! ;)

I'd love to visit the oldest city in the US sometime!!

I think at 11:15 or so. If you want exact I can PM you. I know my sis would LOVE to pick you and Bubba up too! It's easy to carpool in! But, there is a train, not the metro though. It's called something else. I need to research this again. Sis gave me the info, but I forgot the name of it. Dang.

Adventuuuuuuuuuure is OUT THERE!!!

No, no. You've got it all wrong. The TRUTH is out there :rotfl2:

Please PM me your info, as long as you don't mind. This could be an option for us. Our other plan was to fly in on the Saturday, stay over night at a hotel and leave Sunday night. I was looking up airfares for same day return on the 29th and it's over $1000 for the both of us :scared1: It was much more reasonable if we flew in on the Saturday. I'll see if I can do some research on that train you speak of....:surfweb:

It is- both sad and happy, a time of memorial, in a VERY small way.

Grandma was the same way, but in her pockets we found used Kleenex's! :lmao::lmao: And cash. She always forgot where she was hiding her cash.

My own mother LOVES Laila! When I was 10, I spilled an entire bottle of it. Oh. MY. GOSH! I have NEVER seen my parents so MAD!!!

Yeah, sock the recipe away for a hot summer night later in the summer :)

hmmm.... thinking, thinking... by the way, I bought my tiara today....

I didn't even have a second idea. It was mint from the start on this one. But magnolia would have been a VERY good one!!

I tihnk what you might need, if we cannot carpool is the MARC train.

http://baltimore.about.com/od/transportation/a/CommutingtoDC.htm

See if that gets you somewhere.

Also, PM Rosie, she and Tracy are getting a hotel and found a GREAT deal. THey maybe up for splitting. I"d invite you all to Sis's place, but her DH is a donkey.

Perfect. I'll touch base with her. It looks like that MARC train only runs during weekdays :headache: Time to find a Plan B...

EDIT: Okay so it looks like we could take an Amtrak train from BWI airport to Rockville - that's the closest city to Bethesda... so my research says. That could work!

All those trains could work out, I"m sure you'll figure out a way, but let me get my info to you, and we'll work from there. It's too late to find my bundle now, but will work on a PM to you on Monday sometime. Shoot for an 11:00 arrival and you'll be right in the ballpark- easy peasy to pick you up too.

Either way, lunch at 12:30 at The Daily Grill in Bethesda. Menu in online, as are directions.

ANY AND ALL ARE WELCOME!!!

What do you think I'm going to do?? Virtually whip her??:lmao:

Well, I have a whip that I've already used on myself! :lmao::lmao:

I was reading your 'Scents' post and I know that I couldn't get away with smelling like jasmine all day... well maybe some of the (ahhem) CMs would like that.:rainbow: :confused3

I like the smell of the 'stale' water around the castle and the smell of a Dole Whip float... ok the Dole Whip might be pushing it but have you ever stuck your face into one before eating it? I love the smell of the Poly.. I guess it could be all those flowers I smell.:flower3:

I was COUNTING on you, Tim to mention your very special whip- and it isn't even virtual! The old aksakal (white beard) who hand makes them was sitting out selling his whips the other day, and I thought of you! Not because he is old, but because of the whip, silly.

Yes, I"m afraid you are right there. :rotfl2: I hear that Laila is the go-to scent there.

I'll have to stick my nose in my Dole Whip. I'll let you know if it smells like anything but pineapple. :lmao:

Okay sounds like a plan. I thank you tremendously for the transportation offer :worship: I assume your arrival is set for the 29th?
