I was literally the first person in my CVS this morning and nearly all the "free" school supplies were already gone. I was able to get one pack of pens, 1 index card case and 2 composition notebooks. All else was already all gone. Is there something I am missing? Can you get the Sunday prices on Saturday or something? I am so confused, and since I am a teacher the free supplies help me to keep all the kids well supplied very easily.

My store "turns on" the next week's ad on Saturdays. One cashier told me that they have to "turn them on" when the put the first tag for the next week up and they do over 1000 tags on an average week. I shop on Saturday nights so I can get both ad's specials.

My store also does rainchecks even on the 2 or 3 day specials, you might want to check and see if that is an option. I think this varies by store but I'm sure if they are out and you are the first customer they will likely do it.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to give it a try on Saturday and see what happens!

Be careful with the 2-day sales. A lot of times, they do not turn over on Sat. night like the weekly deals do. I would definitely look into rain checks as they never expire.

I wondered the same thing as my CVS was out of almost all of the free stuff this afternoon.

The store I went to today said they didn't even have the items when the sale started. Their truck doesn't come in until Sunday night so they said they would have them until tomorrow. They nicely gave me a raincheck

Check and see if they even had the item, as this is the case a lot of times

Some common reasons that this happens:

Some stores accidently put the tags on the 2-or-3-day items on Saturday and then have to manually print the extra bucks for them when people say the tags were up. There are some people who go around looking for this because then the items don't show on their receipt when purchased and they can go back and do the same deal on Sunday to meet the limit.

Some employees will set aside the limit of everything for other employees. This is not supposed to be done, but it happens.

Some people buy all the items prior to the sale and then go in and do a return and re-buy on the sale date.

Some managers don't look ahead and order in anticipation of the sale. When that happens, they get the order later in the week and it is usually shorted because other stores ordered ahead of time or the items arrive after the sale is over.

Some extra buck items, especially a CVS-owned brand, are meant to deplete current stock so that no new orders can be placed so what happens to be left at the store is what is available.

Some stores order many of the sale items but the stock goes to a preferred "concept store" that has higher sales volume.

Some stores don't get their stock out, they might have cases of the items in the back.

The CVS I usually go to (on the good affluent side of town) was just about out of everything yesterday at noon. I have been in there on Saturday and even Friday and they are already putting the next week tags up but they put them on backwards and then on Sunday they turn them around.

I drove over to another CVS yesterday and they were FULLY stocked and most of the sale items did not have ANY sale tags on the items. One of the clerks was just beginning to put some tags out on stuff at around 2pm. I was able to get everything else I wanted at this store. I might start driving to this one each week I make a CVS trip just so htye most likely will have everything.

I've had the same problem the last 3 Sundays. I have rainchecks out the wazoo. My store is a 24 hour location and the night clerk said it was a husband/wife "team" with multiple cards cleaning everything out in the night. My visits were between 7 and 8 AM. A storm hit around 11:30 last Saturday and I couldn't sleep, so I went to CVS at 12:10 Sunday morning. Everything was in stock.
