CVS ECB Deals - Sales for Week 2/24/08-3/01/08

So how is that any different than the ones who do this and sell at their work, at a yard sale, on Ebay etc. :confused3 All are the same.

As usual the greedy ruined it for all the rest.

I don't sell anything, I would feel weird about it. I just do what works for me (have 4 kids so it's pretty easy to use everything and extras get donated). My daughter buys clearance clothing (at many different stores) and she resells it on eBay so I can't draw a line between what she does and people selling CVS items.

It sounds like this other is on a much bigger scale than one person buying as it's all organized with many people. If a group wipes out several store's entire sale inventory in one trip on Sunday morning, I imagine that's what changes corporate policy.

I visited with someone on Saturday night who said that most of the changes that are taking place with coupons are not because of normal customers who use coupons.

Apparently there are family-owned convenience-type stores in urban areas and those people travel all over and bring about 20 family members to CVS to buy up everything they can to resell in their businesses. CVS has started putting metal-backed stickers on items (I've seen them on razors and some OTC meds) to try to curb this, but it's a growing problem and getting out of control - each person will do several transactions just with free after ECB items and $/$$ coupons and roll them into more free after ECB items and then they drive away with vans loaded with merchandise.

:crazy2: Wow!!

I guess I don't see a difference between a group and an individual if both did the same thing.

I can also see a difference between clearance and a lost leader. The clearance is something the store wants gone so they can put out new merchandise. A lost leader is used to generate foot traffic in the store. Foot traffic = $$. If potential customers always find the shelves empty within ours of the sale starting, then they will not be back and that is a lost customer.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a nitpicker, but I believe the correct term is "loss leader". :)

That's a really good point.

CVS created this monster and have been feeding it and they're doing well financially so I guess they're just going to keep adapting to the situations that arise.

Almost all of the items at our stores have a sticker on them that says something like "This item was sold at CVS" or something like that. They have been on them for as long as I can remember. Although at first the stickers were only on select items, like razors. Now they are on almost all items.

I guess I am not with it but what is a loss leader or lost leader. I would qualify for a "lost" leader most days.:crazy2:

It's something that stores take a loss on to "lead" you into the door. One of the biggest loss leaders most stores use is 12 packs of soda.

Speaking of this, Coke was flying off the shelves on Sunday. Every single person in front of me in line (about 6) had several cases of coke or coke products. Personally I didn't think it was a GREAT deal that everyone needed to be buying it - $2.99. :confused3 The only thing I can think of was that it was shortly before the Oscars were about to start and they were using it for Oscar parties? Although I doubt that based on the other things they were buying in their orders.

Thank you. My mind could not grasp that phrase. I worked in retail for years and I don't remember ever using that term. Of course there are a lot of things I don't remember these days.

Depending on what type of retail you worked in, they may not have used them. My biggest retail stints include Kohl's and TDS and neither of them use loss leaders.

That's weird - it usually has to go to $2.50 for a 12 pack for me to consider it, I sure wouldn't be running out to buy it on Sunday after the ad came out.

I did 4 stores yesterday to work the Tresemme to it's full potential :rotfl2: and nearly all of them were empty (no customers).

Are there any Tresemme coupons out there? I have the CRT that say save $5 when you by $15 of Tresemme, VO5, or St. Ives Skin Care. I read this to mean if when I do the tresemme deal and only need a buck or 2 I can buy cheap VO5 to use the CRT with the deal. Is that right?

There's the Tresemme printable that expired yesterday (but still scans today). You'd want to buy at least $10 of Tresemme out of the $15 so you could get $5 ECBs, but you could spend the other $5 of the $15 on cheap VO5

I just realized I probably didn't read this right. If you've already purchased some Tresemme towards the $10, then you could buy however much Tresemme you needed and spend the rest on either VO5 or St. Ives.

The best combo I could come up with is (because you can do the $5 ECB wyb $10 Tresemme 5 times):

-one 1.99 hair spray, use $2 coupon

-one 1.99 hair spray and 3 big bottles of either shampoo/conditioner for $4.69, use $2 coupon and $5/15 Tresemme CRT, received $5 ECB

-one 1.99 hair spray, use $3 coupon, received $5 ECB

This combination is $20.04 of Tresemme, give $10 ECBs and the coupons total $11. (profit of 96 cents after ECB)

EDIT: It'd probably still be smarter to continue to buy Tresemme instead of VO5 and St. Ives, because the more you buy, the more it counts towards earning $5 ECBs for every $10. Plus there's a monthly special starting on Saturday that gives $5 ECBs when you spend $15. I don't know how they're going to run them both together, but it might end up giving you $10 ECBs for ever $15 you spend in Tresemme beginning on Sat. (maybe two separate $5 ECBs). This is all very weird because the buy $10, get $5 isn't even supposed to start until Sunday!

These might help:

Print two of these (Nestle Nest Eggs - on right side of page): http://www.verybestkids.com/CelebrationCorner/default.aspx

It's $1 off 2, using the coupons makes it 4 bags for $3 after ECB.
