This post is my own pat on the back...
For me, CVS has been a bit of a hit or miss, but my New Year's resolution is to get serious about shopping with coupons. I am not (yet) as organized as so many posters, but why not try to be successful at CVS? After all, I always use my shopper's card, but the bucks often go to waste.
So, a couple weeks back, I bought some pantiliners (no coupon, just needed them) and got $2 ECB. At home I had a coupon for $1 a nail polish I liked, and those were two for one, less the $2 ECB I had picked up the week before. This would have come out to $1 each for $5/bottle nail polish, plus a couple Christmas Clearance items. This generated a $5 off a $15 purchase coupon, good for three days. Now I was determined. I got back there today, with my mfgr's coupons for the 2/1 items, and my $5 off/$15 sale coupon. This is where it got tricky - I tried to get as close to $15, but I went over because of one mfgr's $3 coupon would have put me under, so I picked up an item that was too pricey. (In retrospect, I see the error of my math.) and put me way over $15, when i should have bought another toothpaste instead. Sigh. I give myself a c+.
Here is the bad part - the ECB's didn't print!...and I almost left without them. We got outside, and hubby had the receipt, and when I asked to put the ECB's with my extra mfg coupons, he looked at me like I was nuts. (Believe me, he isn't reading these budget boards, so he was not expecting anymore coupons.) Oh, failure. So, I went back in and tracked down $5 total ECB. The mgr was very apologetic, and helpful.
So now I see that I need to pay close attention to the prices, if I am trying to get close to a number, and I should know how many Bucks will print ahead of time. I told Dh as we walked home that I couldn't understand what people were writing about, lists and coupons and plans....but now I am catching on.
