CVS ECB Deals - Sales for Week 11/9-11/16

Well at least you have one!

I have access to 4-5 stores (although I usually only go to 2 of them) and NONE of them have scanners!!???
:confused3 :rotfl2:

(and sometimes I still think they laugh at me / us with our coupons and ECBs,
but who cares? I'm lovin' it! :goodvibes )

I have 7 stores within 15 minutes of me and only 1 has a scanner. That is in the brand new CVS that just opened up about 6 weeks ago. It is also one of the most inconvenient stores to me, so I don't go too often. Another store has a scanner for price checking, but it is no a coupon printing one. The rest have nothing and all but 1 are remodeled. Oh well.....I guess I should be happy that I have so many this close.....

I now have more candy than we know what to do with. 75% off is too good for me to pass up plus today I did the Hershey deal. Of course lots of it will go to Iraq.

Thanks to all of you for posting on this thread. I would never have seen the iTunes deal otherwise. I have one question that I hope someone can answer. My receipt from tonight says:

ExtraCare Card balances as of 09/22

Fall 2008 Spending $23.15

What does this mean exactly? I looked on the website and can't figure out how this works. Tonight I bought the $50 iTunes and got the $10 ECB. My second order was $50+ but the gal said I had $14.xx additionally off and the order came to $37.45. Did the additional $14.xx come from the summer 2008 spending. If so, when can you use the fall savings?

Any help is appreciated. I feel like a dummy not understanding all the layers of discounts on this card. Thanks, Amy

The Fall Spending amount is the amount of money you've paid out-of-pocket this quarter (excluding prescriptions, gift cards and some other items). You get 2% of that amount back in a quarterly ECB (in 50 cent increments after you spend $25). It takes 48 hours for that total to be updated so it doesn't include what you spent out-of-pocket today.

I think what the cashier meant was that you saved $14-something, either by the items being on sale or by using coupons or ECBs. It had nothing to do with Fall Spending.

Plus.. I do not believe gift cards count towards your total spent in store.

I knew that sounded confusing after I posted it.

Purchase #1 $50 in iTunes cost $50 earned $10ECB
Purchase #2 $54.xx in products used $5 in manufacture's coupons and cashier said you've got another $14 off (don't know where that $14 came from) paid $37.45 and received $11.50 in ECB
Purchase #3 bought razor blades for DD 11.99 used $11.50 in ECB paid $0.52

Hope that makes sense. I am trying to figure out where the extra $14 in coupons came from at the end of purchase #2. The $54.xx was the total of all items using the sale prices and she gave me the ECB earned which I later used on purchase #3. :confused3

For transaction #2 - when did they scan your CVS card? If they didn't scan it until after they had started ringing things up then the sale prices wouldn't show up until after they hit total. Make sense?

I am not sure about that. I have read all the old threads that are linked on these posts and think I understand it. Thanks for the information, I need to shop there more often and get the hang of it.

Thanks to those of you that responded.

I think this is what happened. If they don't scan your card first, the screen shows the regular price. When they press total, it shows a lump sum of all the discounts for sale prices, like -$14.xx and I think it says "CVS Savings" on the screen. It doesn't show on your receipt in a lump sum though - you'll see the sale price and then the amount saved behind it - the amount saved probably adds up to the amount.

Kinda off-topic: CVS is funny in that people who don't have a card don't even get the sale prices, so it makes sense that a cashier might tell you the "extra" amount you saved by having a card. I've watched people buy lots of stuff on sale, but when asked if they have a card, they say no and don't want one either. Often the cashier will scan a new card just so they get the sale prices. Sometimes people who get a new card will end up with one that's been scanned many times for people like that and end up with a mystery quarterly reward for around $1-10 because a lot of merchandise was already rung up on it.

I feel like I've been gone from CVSing forever! I haven't really done it since June. I've been sick multiple times (the most recent a 2-week bout with tonsilitis, most of which was spent in the hospital. Lost 10 pounds because I COULDN'T eat for 2 weeks!).

I plan to get back into it by the end of the month. I still read the threads though!

I went into CVS last night and only bought a bag of candy corn. The girl knows me and was shocked I wasn't spending more!

When the *amount spent* appears on the bottom of your receipt, does that include money spent that was actually a CVS gift card? Specifically a gift card received from transferring an RX?

My total spent seems really high, unless it includes the 2 gift cards I received, each one $25.

Hope that makes sense!? Anyone know for sure either way?

I am so sorry to hear you've been sick Kimya! I sure hope you are much better now, sounds terrible! I was sick for awhile too and lost interest in CVS, didn't even buy anything when I filled prescriptions.

You could build up a few ECBs this week with the Listerine, Smart Water, Pro-Health and Garnier. Only the Pro-Health is a money-maker, but the others are free at least (after coupon/ECB).

This is going to get really confusing.. (sorry!)

If you get a gift card from a prescription (new/transferred) and they scan your card, they actually SUBTRACT that amount from your quarterly spending, but every time you use the gift card, the amount counts back in towards your quarterly spending. For this reason, it's better to not have your card scanned when getting a prescription gift card (sounds like maybe they didn't scan yours when you got them?). Paying with a gift card counts the same as paying out-of-pocket.

If you bought anything online at CVS.com, it will triple the amount of your quarterly spending and look like you spend 3 x's as much (this give you a higher quarterly ECB). They used to give a triple rewards coupon every quarter to use in the store, but they quit doing that about 6 mos. ago.

I'm not sure if they scanned my card or not, as I was just picking up an RX both times. So maybe they didn't...
But thats good to know that using it actually counts toward my spending. Now I dont feel as bad regarding how much I seemed to have spent! :scared1:
Got lots of great deals but still, wow!
Thanks for the help figuring it out! :goodvibes

Sometimes even if they scan your card, it gets canceled out because the coupon has to be over-ridden by the pharmacist's card (and they often mess it up and start over). Just think of $50 of your spending as free money :)

Thanks, I'd like to think of it that way. I was just shocked when I saw how much I spent OOP, $80+ on my card, $40 on DH's. But if the 2 gift cards for $25 each are included, then it IS a good thing. And I know I got a lot, and some amazing deals that were almost free as most OOP is minimal.

But I never would have spent that much at CVS without the ECB deals! Never ever! Its not like its Target LOL

So it makes me wonder if I'm really saving? Does that make sense? Like do you thinik we're deceiving ourselves in a way, into thinking we're saving a lot but really aren't? :confused3

Wait, what am I saying! I know I'm saving tons just on soda alone, plus toothpaste that will last forever, and on and on. Well anyway, it DID make me pause and think! :rolleyes1

You're right, you would've bought soda anyway somewhere else so that money doesn't count either :thumbsup2 . I've been trying to remember to pay the difference on stuff like that OOP rather than using ECBs. I sure miss the $/$$ coupons because they covered the difference on so many things :(

If the sale price at CVS is equal or better than anywhere else, I try to get it at CVS first. Reminds me of another deal I meant to post... Kellogg's cereal is $2 this week and there are $1/box coupons here: http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=rjnefah1098550&bt=wi&o=54148&c=KC&p =uU1wzMHO (can print 6).
