I have the 813 which is one model down (8MP vs 9 MP) and I love it. Very nice camera. It fits in my pocket and takes really good pictures for a point and shoot. Easy to aim, shoot, etc. Not professional quality but good for someone looking for snapshots. Here's a sample:

The only thing it's not really good for is taking "night" mode photos unless you use a tripod as the camera shows all the movement.

DD13 got a Kodak Easyshare last year and she loves it We haven't had any problems with it and it is very easy to use.

I teach photography, and I have two (two?) Kodak EasyShares. They're okay cameras -- especially for a kid -- but without knowing which one you're considering, I can't be more specific. This series has, I believe, more models out there than any other brand at this moment, and the lower-end models are really not great, while the upper end are quite nice. For a beginning photographer, I'd recommend getting a model that includes image stablization; small point and shoots and new photographers are both very bad for "camera shake", which results in blurry pictures.

In general, an EasyShare will get you good pictures outdoors, okay pictures indoors (lighting is always more tricky indoors, and the flash on this model isn't wonderful), and decent pictures of people who'll sit still and pose for you. This camera is totally worthless for fast-action photography. For a point-and-shoot camera, it has a decent range of functions. The pictures are "easy" to download, but the name is a bit misleading; it's no easier than other brands.

Some EasyShares use AA batteries (which makes them more bulky) and others plug into the wall to recharge. I lean towards the AA versions because you can always have an extra set of AAs in your pocket, or you can buy them anywhere if you're caught unaware, but you can't always find an outlet and leave your camera for a couple hours.

Honestly, if I were buying, for the same money I'd choose something from the Canon PowerShot line -- but I am assuming that something's available in the same priceline. Again, especially for a child, this is a decent little camera. Don't expect professional or portrait quality from it, and you'll be satisfied.

They appear on the bottom of your receipt if you purchased something that earned them. The ad will tell you or you can check on the shelf tag if there will be ECB's awarded.
