Cutting Sandwiches in Half

I rip my sandwiches apart so I don’t usually get a triangle or a rectangle 🤣 Does no one else do this??

Cut in rectangles as a kid. I never understood why my mom wouldn't cut them in triangles. Or, for that matter, why even cut them? Especially when I was in high school! Yes, I had a mother that still made my lunches in high school, I know!!!
All this talk a about sandwiches brought up the fact that as a kid I only had cheese, pbj, or just plain mayonnaise( pronounced 'manaze'). My mom would have one for breakfast and dip it in her coffee! Sometimes southerners can have such bizarre food preferences!!!

Man, I like rectangles. Triangles leaves a pointy end that is to much ratio of crust to bread for my liking.

Rectangles, and recently, I turn the bread so that there is a lengthwise crust on both sides, one facing right and one left. The sandwich is more "balanced". The "ends" are meant for a hot dog or smoked sausage.

Childhood: untoasted, cut in triangles
Adult: toasted, cut in 1/2

I was somewhere recently where pre-made sandwiches were sold in a refrigerated take-out case. Included with the ham, turkey, tuna salad, etc. were liverwurst and onion sandwiches.

Apparently enough people there like it.
I'm horrified.

My mom used to do liverwurst and mayo on white bread. Something she picked up from her German step grandmother.

Bahahhaa - I was cutting my son's last night, as I was prepping the super-involve dinner of tuna on toast, and I cut the first one rectangle and swore. So, because of mild OCD, I had to cut the others the same, but I HATED it. Rectangle looks wrong to me, but I end up doing it more often than not, for some reason.

Oh my gosh... this thread is so validating for me. :rotfl2:When I was a child, I ALWAYS asked my Mom to cut my sandwiches into triangles but she refused to do it. I never understood why she wouldn't do something so simple. It's a running joke in my family that anything weird about me is due to the fact my Mom refused to cut my sandwiches into triangles. :lmao::lmao:

I have no preference, so I cut them that way...

I still eat liverwurst and onion on rye maybe twice a year. But I buy the type labeled Braunschweiger. Seems a little more upscale. ;)

Oh, as to original question, triangles.

Liverwurst, onion, yellow mustard and whatever bread is available at the time, but prefer soft, fresh white bread. My family is puzzled as to why I eat liverwurst but cannot stand liver. It's just different.

My mom used to cut them into 4 squares - mostly on vacation because we ate hot lunch at school. There were three of us kids, so it worked well to get every appetite fed with less waste. I have to agree that grilled cheese needs to be cut diagonally. It's easier to dip the crust into the tomato soup that way!

Depends on mood. Probably standard triangles most often. Occasionally even three rectangles:

or a large Mickey cookie cutter.
