With the Star Wars Weekend 'Hyperspace Hoopla now discontinued (http://wdwnt.com/2014/02/star-wars-weekends-discontinues-popular-hyperspace-hoopla-show/) the line of recent WDW cuts gets bigger; joining the ranks of PUSH, Ziti Sisters, Miyuki, 'legacy' fastpass and so many others.
Ive seen less cuts in a barber shop than at WDW over the last 12 months. So, what does the future hold?

Do you think the future of WDW is more cuts, less 'magic' and more misery; or do you think that the cuts are starting to draw to a close and everything that has been cut will be replaced by bigger and better things?

For the record, Miyuki retired.

You might want to add to your list that pretty soon the only park to have a day time parade will be the MK.

It's sad. You'd think a multibillion dollar entertainment company can afford both the fireworks and Hyperspace Hoopla.

Actually, Miyuki just left Disney. She is working in Japan. Have a friend there and she posted a video of Miyuki working. They've become friends due to my friend being in WDW so often and being Japanese.

They've been doing this for a while. It just seems to be picking up speed.

I'm thinking adding fireworks to SWW is a pretty expensive upgrade, likely well more than the loss of HH.

Sadly, some parents complained about the candy, so they had to stop her from handing it out.

That frustrated her so she left. I would have to, but I am not sure Disney could have done much different.

Push may come back I hope. It's a contract dispute.

So I am not sure the cuts are indicative of the sky is falling attitude being spread by some people.

Miyuki has been NOT handing out candy for years, so the assertion that she left because of that is bogus.

They're doing fireworks and adding a new nighttime show in place of the Hoopla. Yeah it sucks that the Hoopla will be gone and I will really miss it, but it's not like Disney is taking something away without adding something in this case.

Maybe it's just me but I'd take Hyperspace Hoopla over more fireworks at DHS any day.

I think I'm in a small minority, but I was not impressed with HH at all the year I made a point to see it. It was long, loud, and unfunny. I was surprised at my own reaction.

I've been off the grid most of the day and just learning about the apparent cancellation of the hoopla...

But according to the Official Blog, they are not only adding an ADDITIONAL weekend, but "there will be a new evening experience for Star Wars Weekends guests on Hollywood Blvd. in the Walt Disney World Resort theme park."

This does not appear to be related to the fireworks, which is mentioned earlier in the article. Hmmm....

I never do Star Wars weekends, so don't understand everyone being so upset at HH being gone. I'm sure it's just fine without it.

;)

Just to be clear. I was kidding.

You have a lot of information there that no one else seems to have. Has all of that been documented or are you on the "inside"? This is the first I have ever heard about the bad candy, and also about the contract dispute with PUSH.

AK losing the parade has nothing to do with budget cuts. The Avatarland construction will impede the path of the parade, so they have to stop it.

I had read somewhere (other than here ;) ) that she was retiring, and that her daughter was not taking up the craft (Miyuki said it "burns her fingers"). However, that could have been an "official" line.

The deal with PUSH was WELL reported recently. Jason Garcia at the Sentinel got most of the scoop...PUSH is provided under contract from the builder. The contract was up, and Disney seemed to be confident they would reach an agreement to renew, but the builder apparently didn't like the change in wording in the contract over intellectual property, and the failed to reach an agreement.

Yes.

But they haven't committed to bring it back afterwards either...

. . . Actually, it was not Disney that stopped the candy being given away.
. . . These are the facts from three years ago.

**********************************************************

Why no "Miyuki Candy Art Lady" give-away candy:

1) Yes, it is health code.
2) No it is not just because she does not wear gloves.
3) The OFFICIAL DETERMINATION is the candy-making cart is not setup as a food facility:
. . . the operation is classified as candy-making
. . . law says candies must be made in a food preparation facility
. . . the cart does not meet the law for food a mobile facility
. . . cart must be adequately equipped and fully satisfy all food facility requirements
. . . Florida Law: Chapter 500, F.S., section 5K-4, F.A.C. (mobile food establishments)
4) There are over six pages of requirements, one can read several violations:
. . . bare hands touching unprepared food
. . . food has lack of protection from bird, insects, dust, etc
. . . no adequate containers/utensils to protect the food
. . . no hand washing sink or three-stage sink (either under different rules)
. . . maintenance of food and non-food surfaces
. . . extra utensils that are sanitized

NOTE:
Yes, it didn't help that parents and kids would yell if they did not one. Some
kids would wait at the cart for 2-3 shows and get one each time. The parents
of others would go ballistic.

I would like Disney to recycle the best bits of the defunct DHS Pixar Parade, the AK Jungle Jamin' Parade and the current Magic Kingdom parade.

They could make a multi-themed parade out of the characters and floats of those three. Send it round World Showcase a couple of times a day. Say 1pm and 5pm.

Would maybe relieve a bit of pressure on some of the attractions which are usually swamped. They obviously can't conjure up ride capacity overnight but a parade could be a short-term way to absorb some of the massive crowds in a park with too few popular attractions. Even if it was a temporary solution through the peak season it would help.

It does seem odd that these stated health code violations just came about. I truly think that too many parents were complaining. How many of you stood back and watched as parents and their children clamored for candy creations? I did. My dd was lucky enough to get two..several years apart. After the second one, I told her no more, she could watch but she would be declining any creation offers. She had no issue with that.
Here's the thing...Miyuki said that while it is 'edible', it really didn't taste good. So, food product? Not really It was not 'marketed' as a food product.
So, when too many people complained about not getting them, Miyuki was told to stop handing them out. And according to her, that was very sad. She loved making them for the kids and loved watching their faces when she chose them to get a creation.
She left Disney. She is working in Japan. As I said, I have a Japanese friend, who spent time in WDW with Miyuki. She just saw her at an event in Japan and was able to talk to her. I have told you what Miyuki pretty much has said to my friend.

She hasn't handed out candy since at least 2012 (when I visited). So she stuck around for 2 years before leaving because she couldn't give out candy anymore?

Yeah...not buying what you or your friend are selling. It may be among the MANY reasons she decided to retire (I've also heard she had some health/family issues), but to blame the no-handing-out-candy thing for her departure is disingenuous at best.
