Anyone belong to a Curves center? My local one is running a special along with Avon, $30 for 30 days with before and after measurements, access to computer programs for a month, etc. Went in today and made an appt for Saturday, looks interesting. Any good or bad opinions???

My mom and I went to Curves for a couple of months.. personally, we didn't really care for it. We wound up opting for a more traditional gym.

I think it depends on your current physical activity. We were pretty physically fit (not much weight to loose- probably 5lbs for me and maybe 10 for my mom?) and although we worked hard while we were at Curves and eat decently (better than normal), my mom lost like 2 pounds and I lost none. I went to the YMCA and lost those 5 pounds easily in a week or 2.

I think Curves is great for people who are just starting out or elderly women who just want to get moving.

Regardless, give it a try, just to see!

EDIT: Just wanted to add there were no computer programs when we went.

Just what Rora has said is what I've heard. Curves is great to get you started in an exercise program. A good way to get things moving. After time you will be looking for more. I think you are beyond Curves with all you currently do.

You'd be better to invest in Pilates/Yoga DVDs if you have not already. It will help your running/walking experience. Then again, for a 30 day trail it might be worth checking. You will get out of it in proportion to the effort you put into it. Don't hold back.

I enjoy Curves. I like that it is a place for women only. I am plus size and don't feel like I fit into the hard-core workouts at some of the bigger gyms (ie Gold's). I have dropped 25 pounds since November, in part thanks to my Curves workouts. Curves recommends 3 work-outs per week, but I find I see much better results with 4.

I agree with the previous posters. If you are in relatively good shape wiht only a little firming up needed, Curves may not be the place for you. But if you have more to lose or consider yourself out of shape, Curves is a great place to start! Give it a try and decide if it is for you.
