Since it's been raining since yesterday, nothing else to do, i might as well post my trip report and current status...

Drove from NJ to daytona sat. morning, made record time for myself. Took 14hrs, that's including traffic at Virginia. Got to Daytona Beach Resort at 10pm. Next morning, it was beautiful, took my 3 yo to the beach in front of the resort and he loves it. Then we had breakfast at IHOP and headed to VB. Drove another 1 1/2 hr to VB and arrived at 1:30pm. Room not ready- so went to walmart and drove around. Got back to the resort again at 3pm, still not ready. I think i must have annoyed the front desk as I keep asking her about the room. At 3:40pm i told them my cellphone is not working, can she check again... and as she did, the room came thru just as she punched in the room #. What the odds of that...;) We hurry to load everything to the 1BR and headed to the beach. Beautiful and perfect weather. At 6pm, we decided to head back to the room and noticed the pool was empty- so we stayed there for another hour. Pool water was very warm and my DS loves it.
Monday morning comes rain, so we decided to drive to Universal Studio since we have annual pass there as well. And rain there too, so we walked around in ponchos. Came back around 6pm, and stayed in the room pretty much the rest of the day. Now, it's tuesday morning, still raining- DW and DS still sleeping, and I'm sitting here typing and watching Mauri Povich. Might head to MK later and walk around in ponchos again.

I'm gonna post some pics as soon as i can figure out how....

Sorry, I don't think i'm allow to post attachments and pics yet. :confused3

Hope the rain moves out for you later today so you can enjoy some of that Florida sunshine.:cool1:

What type of romm are you in? What is your view? We would love to do Vero next Easter!

I got the 1br with the balcony facing the pool. Can't see much since there's so many trees in front of it. I requested ocean view, but none, and cs said it could be worst. I could be on the first floor. Since there's no view anyway, i rather be on 1st floor.

1st floor is no picnic - I am in one right now that we checked into on Sunday. Right off the patio are the air conditioning units. Really not peaceful to even sit outside because all you can hear is the humm of the units.

Are there any OVIR on the first floor or are they all higher up? (I would want to book an OVIR and if needed, would request a high floor to avoid first floor if necessary)

For those of you that are at Vero now I am hoping that you all have nicer weather by the time you read this thread again. I would also appreciate any experience you may have with how crowded the resort may seem the closer it gets to Memorial Day weekend. We are planning a trip to to VB next Memorial Day and were just curious. Thanks and have a great stay:)

I feel your rain pain! We were at Vero a few years ago for a week. The day we checked in it was very nice, but after that it rained EVERY SINGLE DAY - ALL DAY LONG!!! There was some storm stuck off the east coast and it didn't budge. We watched TV, more TV, and even MORE TV!!! Vero is my favorite resort, but even I couldn't wait to leave after that week.

Hopefully the sun will come out soon and you won't have a repeat of what we went through!!!

Oh no....I am so sorry cheez.....hope the rain lets up soon for your sake. But for FL's sake....they need the rain desperately. I was at VB and WDW May 5-11 and not one drop of rain. When I left on May 11, the TV news had said that central FL had not had rain in over 24 days. I do hope it clears up for you though.

PS : I'm pretty sure you can post pics as I see u have 187 posts. Here's some help in how to do it :

There aren't any rooms on the first floor of the Inn.

IMO VB is not the best resort to be in during rain. Just not enough to do. Here's hoping you get some sun to enjoy the pool and beach more. My fingers are crossed for you.

Well, after 2 days of non- stop rain, we've checked out this morning.. looked like the sun was out when we checked out at 10am. Got to BWV at noon today, looks good, that yellow fireball ignited for a bit. Room was not ready, had to call again and again, till after 4pm. Rain again at WDW, so heavy that we tried to head to epcot before the room was ready. Took the 'friend ship', started to pour, thunderstorm, heavy heavy rain at about 1:30pm. They stopped the boat till it slows down. THe rain was just too heavy, so after checked in, rain stopped at 5pm. So I told my DW lets head to MK while we get the chance. Sure enough, after we got to MK, heavy rain again. So we headed to Chef Mickey with no ressie and go for a long shot. They weren't taking any walk in, but i begged them, please, i'll wait if i have to, just put me down for something. She gave us a quoted wait time of 1 1/2 hour. I'll take it- beats walking in the rain. Got our table exactly 90min. later. 3yo had a great time and it was worth it...:thumbsup2

Hello 66Tink:
We have been here since Sunday and the crowds are very low. Yesterday the sun was out in the morning and early afternoon. Around the pool there will still plenty of seats and even a bunch of tables to use. We went to Shutters (onsite restaurant) the last 2 nights around 7pm. Both nights there were less than 10 tables occupied in the place.

Walking around I started to think about how hard this place can be to get into for DVC owners. This is just my guess - but it would not surprise me if this place was only 50% full right now. Maybe the rain forcast and people cancelled?

We noticed this too May 5-8. Never had trouble getting into Shutters or getting a poolside chair etc.

cheez ! So glad u got into Chef Mickey ! You needed a "bright spot" in your vacation. Hope things get better for ya :thumbsup2
