Current work at the Fort

I also had one try to tell me that the new resort is being built entirely on the old River Country. I told them no only partially on River Country, it’s also being built where Mickey’s Backyard BBQ was and Clementine’s beach. They have no clue about the waterfront cabins either. SMH

Heck they moved the TCD-Ranch horse barn across the road so they could build time share parking on the barn's former footprint. The barn wasn't part of River Country either. That is a SPECIAL kind of <stupid>.

I took some videos but I can’t seem to upload them.

Video can only be linked not uploaded - they have to be hosted somewhere else like youtube or photobucket. However you might be able to convert the video file (such as an mp4 file extension) to a GIF file (with the gif extension) which CAN upload/paste into a post. GIFs, though can only be a few seconds long.

The DVC reps also claim that they don’t know if the monstrosity will be all hotel, all DVC or a mix. One flat out said that I know more than they do.

Oh, on the boat ride from MK, other guests were wondering what was being built. I educated them, lol. When we got off the boat one gentleman turned to me and said “I’m so sorry, I had no idea how much impact this was having on the Fort.”

The more photos I see, the sadder I become at how the peaceful Fort is being taken over - literally overshadowed - by this new resort.

It certainly feels that way in the Settlement. Everywhere else at the Fort doesn't have the same intrusion. Even the new cabins are isolated and you'd never have to look at them.

I think it feels so bad because the Settlement is a big part of the Fort to many of us. The boat dock, TE, Hoop and the Trading post are the "heart" of the Fort to me.

Loops 100-300 have been our fav loops. But I have a feeling that's going to change. I don't think the site line will intrude on 100 loop since it's 'well-treed', but I'm not sure about the other two. But I have a feeling that there will be increased traffic and noise.

We've loved being close to the Settlement and being able to walk to the dock. May have to factor a GC rental and a loop that's farther away.

Yes and this is why some (well, me for one) have been speaking out about it. It's not like building a Polynesian-themed tower at the Polynesian Resort. It's a clashing style and a take-over. They've taken the Fort beach to the left of the boat dock; they've taken the lake view from the Settlement area where the cabins/villas are being built; they've taken our original, beautiful Tri-Circle-D Ranch horse barn (new design across the road); they've taken our Mickey's Backyard BBQ Pavilion (character interaction meals) and not replaced it (yet).

Like @StormyCA and @Teamubr , we enjoyed the Preferred loops (particularly 100) for its proximity to the Settlement area. But longer term, I think 1500 or 1700 (Tent and Full) may be my go-to.

The peaceful Fort has been disappearing drip-by-drip. Getting rid of Musket Mickey, the growing number of golf carts on the roads, ripping out woods to add more parking for carts, the new Meadow project (purpose unknown but it was one of the only big grassy areas for games and free-play) .... The time share project, however, is not a drip - it's more of a hit over the head.

PS - one thing I've loved about camping in 100 loop are the sounds I can hear. Boat horns approaching and leaving the Fort dock, ferry boat horns, steam train whistles, not to mention the birds and the bees. Even the squeak of the swings on the Settlement playground and the voices of children having fun there are comforting. Fireworks over MK, the clip clop of the horses pulling the wagon or carriage rides.

The Fort is a park in itself. Disney was good at putting together pieces and making the pieces feel like they are part of each other. So far this hotel does not look like it belongs. Quite frankly WL looks more in sync The Fort. They can't stop now. We will see what it will look like soon, and see what it gives or takes also.

I have been amazed how Disney has been able to "hide" things through sight lines, landscaping, etc. I remember when Guardians was being built at EPCOT. That building is enormous and dominates that whole corner, but now that it is done, it isn't nearly as noticeable. I can't see how they can do that with the highrise right off the back of Crockett's or the cabins on "our" beach, but we'll have to see if they even try. I won't be back to the Fort until at least 2027. Going to DLP next year, so the place will likely be close to being complete. I won't say I won't go back to the Fort. It is still the cheapest, nicest option for us, but it might be hard to think of the Settlement the same.

Ed- The "sounds" in the 100 Loop are one of my favorite reasons to stay there. Thankfully, I don't think the intrusions of R********** will impact what we get to hear.

No Jim, the ugly time share won't impact the sounds but any time I walk out of 100 loop on the trail by the Trading Post, I'll see the eye sore.

BTW, did you know that you can hear the Epcot fireworks from 1500/1700 and that general camping area also?
