Hello! We just planned a late Feb. trip. I MAY be diagnosed with celiac disease this month - looking likely but not sure. I want advice on restaurants that are already good but would convert well to gluten free options. I don't want to have to find new ressies with limited times if I'm diagnosed. Ex. Sanaa is a must do for us and is on our list regardless. I see that not all the restaurants have their GF options on the app, and also see that the current allergy selections look limited like the rest of the menus, which is disappointing.

We are visiting MK, HS, and Disney Springs and staying at Coronado.

Thanks and Happy new year everyone!

MK...Skipper Canteen has awesome options - including gluten-free fried chicken!!!!!

Studios...no clue.

Disney Springs...BOATHOUSE has awesome options!! I've heard good things about Raglan Road also.

Coronado...no clue, but I know there's no counter service so that in and of itself is limiting.

If it were me, I would either make a trip to the grocery store or have groceries delivered. That way, I would at least know that I could carry snacks with me that I could eat. I personally like eating breakfast in my room to save time, so I would get breakfast food also. But I think OP was asking about table service restaurants, so that does not really answer OP's question.

I use a towncar to get from the airport to the hotel and have it do a grocery stop.

As far as snacks, if gluten is the only issue, Dole Whip, Mickey Bars, and poopcorn are all safe.

Hey there! I have celiac and when I was at MK in November I could mobile order allergy menu items at Pinocchio Village House (GF chicken nuggets and fries — delicious!) and at Pecos Bills (GF nachos which were good). Like a previous commenter said: Dole whip, popcorn and Mickey bars are all good. At Coronado I would say 3 Bridges — I haven’t been but I have heard raves about it and am going in a few weeks 🙌🏼 Disney Springs: Frontera has the most comprehensive GF menu, there are GF onion rings at Cooke’s of Dublin, lots of other choices there too And around DS (google the name of the restaurant and “Disney springs gluten free“ and that gives some more up-to-date menus. DHS I haven’t been in ages but 50s Prime Time reportedly has a GF menu with yummy choices. I recommend getting the “Find Me Gluten Free” app for your phone. It’s a lifesaver!
oh, and Sanaa has GF bread service! Have fun! Disney will spoil you for all other restaurants. They make dietary restrictions a priority.

I saw Raglan Road has GF fish and chips!!

You will be just fine. If in doubt, just ask a cast member and they will make sure you are safe. For the most part the are very knowledgeable and used to dealing with even more restrictive diets.

I love eating at Disney as I can get fun options that are harder to get at home. (I eat gluten and dairy free). At table service the chef will sometimes come out and talk with you. I was absolutely spoiled by the chef at Sci Fi Diner last month.

Last month I really enjoyed both Sci Fi and Mama Melrose at HS and Yak and Yeti in Animal Kingdom.

At MK I wanted the GF/DF pizza option at Pinnocchio and the Dole Whip is always a must have. I REALLY like the chicken nuggets/strips they use on property, so you cannot go wrong with those at any quick serve place.

Good idea. We will be packing a lot of snacks and also renting a car for other reasons.

Thank you! That's why we booked Disney (JK, we would go anyway). I definitely wouldn't want to go anywhere else with a brand new diagnosis.

My DW’s favorite there, along with the GF onion rings. A lot of fried food at one time, but she can never get these anywhere local, so it’s a vacation treat when we do that.

Also, she likes the GF chicken pot pie at 50’s Prime Time in HS. We usually just walk up and sit at the bar in the adjacent Tune-In Lounge rather than getting an ADR for the restaurant, but the lounge is currently closed.

There is a couple on YouTube that do videos of Disney Restaurants and what Gluten Free and allergen free foods they have. They have found some amazing meals. Search gluten free disney world restaurants on YouTube and you'll find them.

DDIL has Celiac and I have two auto-immune issues that flare badly after consuming gluten or lactose. On our November trip, when we asked CMs how to order mobile since we didn't see much GF on the app, the Disney-owned restaurants just sent us inside to a register to order allergy-friendly in person from a chef. So don't hesitate to ask - this is their current system.

The counter service restaurants at the Contemporary, Riviera, and Art of Animation all said they could make the majority of the menu items gluten free so just ask for what you want. The resort restaurants seem to have GF Mickey waffles, GF pasta, GF burger buns, GF chicken nuggets, etc. In the parks, they can tell you whether their fried GF foods are cooked in a separate fryer (truly "gluten free") vs. using the same fryer as other battered or breaded items ("gluten-friendly").

Most Disney restaurants have at least one GF baked item (cookie, brownie, or cake square) available, as well as frozen desserts or fruit. Some places even use starch thickeners other than wheat flour for gravies so you may be surprised at what is available GF off their regular menu if you ask.

Thanks for all the information! Is DDIL sensitive to cross contamination? That is the thing that truly worries me about being diagnosed. We love to eat out and get takeout.

I definitely would not want to trust mobile order for celiac.

I noticed that a lot of dishes would seemingly be GF if a single component was removed. Good to know that they can make modifications to increase my options!

I read somewhere that Raglan Road's fish and chips is not GF now? Fried in the same frier? Or something like that. Not sure if it's true.

Yes, she is. The longer she goes strictly GF and lets her system heal (stop bleeding/anemia, better nutrient absorption, less pain/bloating, feels good), the less likely that a small contamination will cause significant pain. Same for me with belly pain/bleeding and joint pain/swelling.

Some places (people) are just less careful than you or I would be at home or visiting a friend's/relative's house. DDIL and I both try to be extra cautious, strictly avoiding exposure. Starting a trip with a healthy gut gives the best chance of quick recovery from any little mishaps while away. So much better than aggravating an already-inflamed system. :)

When we were there in aug, we did mobile order for our first meal and the lady that brought us the food told us that even though you can place orders for it in the app, she recommended doing in person to ensure it wouldn't get messed up. Maybe things have improved now?

Regarding gluten free - my daughter has Celiac's and one of the reasons we love Disney is that we have had such good luck and its so easy to find food for her. Everywhere we have gone, the employees are always incredibly accommodating. Most exemplary example last trip was we went to the Marketplace in Beach Club and they had very little having just re-opened. They actually didn't have gluten free options for my daughter so the lady working the counter walked over to Beaches and Cream and ended up bringing back a full gluten free meal from there and gave it to us for free. At some of the table restaurants like Trattoria al Forno and Hollywood Brown Derby, they have even had gluten free options not listed on the allergy menu so always ask.

FYI - my daughters favorite gluten free thing at disney is probably the Zebra Domes at Animal Kingdom Lodge although I'm not sure if you can get them currently while its only partially opened.

One person posted that they are available in the refrigerated section of the gift shop at Kidani Village (part of Animal Kingdom Lodge) But I only saw it posted by that one person.

Were those the gluten free version or the normal kind?

This was my plan, but I've been hearing that the quick service lines to order food are super long?

Per the DisneyFoodBlog, both versions of the Zebra Domes are sold at Johari Treasures at Kidani Village at Animal Kingdom Lodge. The GF version is supposedly in a separate area in the freezer section.
YUM!!! pixiedust:
