Yeah. I have a cruise coming up, just don't want to purchase now and or purchase later if the deals aren't going to be good. Granted it can change anytime. We went to one almost a year ago and they were giving something like $600- $800 in onboard credit. At that time, there were extra discounts for aulani, like it was cheaper per point. I might still have the literature somewhere (not sure, would have to look) if you are interested in exact numbers. One thing that gave us pause was that we had been to one about a year before and they had taken off about two years of the life of the timeshare.
Many times we went it was a better offer, just not sure if it has been recently.

We've been DVC members since 2008. We bought resale for both our contracts. As Disney no longer allows new resale members to have a bunch of the perks, I'd recommend buying the smallest possible contract direct to get perks like the discounted Annual Passes; and then buying a larger contract through resale. We used the Timeshare Store for both of ours. Having said that about buying direct...I'd still recommend doing some number crunching to see whether you'd actually use the current perks and if it makes financial sense.Since returning I've looked in to DVC quite a bit because I like the idea of it. There are some boards on this forum dedicated to it and I recommend you look through them. I think many recommend not buying direct on your first purchase.
If you buy a resale contract first you can later pay cash and add on direct for 25 points. I think some resorts might be 50 points, but YMMVWe've been DVC members since 2008. After becoming a Disney Vacation Club Member, you may decide that you need a larger Ownership Interest and access to more Vacation Points. If so, your Vacation Club Guide will be happy to walk you through the process of purchasing an additional Ownership Interest and adding on Vacation Points.
Please note that a minimum of 25 Vacation Points for cash purchases and 50 Vacation Points for financed purchases (for qualified buyers) is required for an additional Ownership Interest.
That's interesting. Of course, I never picked up on that. So if I buy when the property opens it is 40 years, but if I buy 2 years later it is 38? But the price actually went up. So if you do not get in right away, you pay more for less time?As far as I know the deals haven't been different in years. Yiu can look up the offered deals on dvcnews.com though. I think that's the one.
Each property is given an end date. That doesn't change. So if you buy when it's new you get (for instance) 40 years of use. If you buy 2 years later, that's 38 years of use.
Yup, plus if you're buying direct the price/point goes up every few years, so you pay lots more. That's interesting. Of course, I never picked up on that. Yes. That has been true. We are current owners from Direct Disney, all paid off. Looking to see what the deals have been as we have a cruise booked to see if it makes since to wait. ThanksI may be wrong but from what I have heard you get the best "deals" if you buy while on a DCL cruise. I have heard this from DVC members as well as cast members. We did end up purchasing ours on our first Disney cruise. So if resale is not an option I would wait for the cruise!!!
What is copper ridge? Is that new?We were on the cruise over Easter. Deal was $500 on board credit and discount on Polynesian and Aulani. That discount depended on how many points you got. For example, we were looking at 200 and it was $2,250 off purchase price. I believe 100 was only $1k. Discount percent was higher for higher purchase. They also give you the equivalent number of points as you have purchased from prior year so you have one time extra points. It seemed like it was a better deal than the standard dvc offering. There was a discount on Copper Ridge but it wasn't as much. That being said, I think current discount offering is through May 20th or sometime around there and may change.
