Anyone know what current DVC promotions and incentives for add on or new membership currently offered. Many times we went it was a better offer, just not sure if it has been recently.

Thanks.

When I was on the Magic last summer, there was a draw for those who turned up to the promotion for $100 room credit. The actual sign up gift was an exclusive fabric beach bag. There were a couple of things offered financially but, as we didn't sign up I threw the stuff out a couple of months back and can't remember.

I would have loved to join but it was just the wrong time for us, plus Aulani the place I think we'd love the most is too far way (I think flights worked out to about £2k per person from the uk).

We went to one almost a year ago and they were giving something like $600- $800 in onboard credit. At that time, there were extra discounts for aulani, like it was cheaper per point. I might still have the literature somewhere (not sure, would have to look) if you are interested in exact numbers. One thing that gave us pause was that we had been to one about a year before and they had taken off about two years of the life of the timeshare.

Yeah. I have a cruise coming up, just don't want to purchase now and or purchase later if the deals aren't going to be good. Granted it can change anytime.

Thanks

Since returning I've looked in to DVC quite a bit because I like the idea of it. There are some boards on this forum dedicated to it and I recommend you look through them. I think many recommend not buying direct on your first purchase.

As far as I know the deals haven't been different in years. Yiu can look up the offered deals on dvcnews.com though. I think that's the one.

Each property is given an end date. That doesn't change. So if you buy when it's new you get (for instance) 40 years of use. If you buy 2 years later, that's 38 years of use.

We've been DVC members since 2008. We bought resale for both our contracts. As Disney no longer allows new resale members to have a bunch of the perks, I'd recommend buying the smallest possible contract direct to get perks like the discounted Annual Passes; and then buying a larger contract through resale. We used the Timeshare Store for both of ours. Having said that about buying direct...I'd still recommend doing some number crunching to see whether you'd actually use the current perks and if it makes financial sense.

If you buy a resale contract first you can later pay cash and add on direct for 25 points. I think some resorts might be 50 points, but YMMV :p

Per DVC website (https://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/points/):
After becoming a Disney Vacation Club Member, you may decide that you need a larger Ownership Interest and access to more Vacation Points. If so, your Vacation Club Guide will be happy to walk you through the process of purchasing an additional Ownership Interest and adding on Vacation Points.

Please note that a minimum of 25 Vacation Points for cash purchases and 50 Vacation Points for financed purchases (for qualified buyers) is required for an additional Ownership Interest.

I may be wrong but from what I have heard you get the best "deals" if you buy while on a DCL cruise. I have heard this from DVC members as well as cast members. We did end up purchasing ours on our first Disney cruise. So if resale is not an option I would wait for the cruise!!!

That's interesting. Of course, I never picked up on that. So if I buy when the property opens it is 40 years, but if I buy 2 years later it is 38? But the price actually went up. So if you do not get in right away, you pay more for less time?

Yup, plus if you're buying direct the price/point goes up every few years, so you pay lots more.

Yes. That has been true. We are current owners from Direct Disney, all paid off. Looking to see what the deals have been as we have a cruise booked to see if it makes since to wait. Thanks

We were on the cruise over Easter. Deal was $500 on board credit and discount on Polynesian and Aulani. That discount depended on how many points you got. For example, we were looking at 200 and it was $2,250 off purchase price. I believe 100 was only $1k. Discount percent was higher for higher purchase. They also give you the equivalent number of points as you have purchased from prior year so you have one time extra points. It seemed like it was a better deal than the standard dvc offering. There was a discount on Copper Ridge but it wasn't as much. That being said, I think current discount offering is through May 20th or sometime around there and may change.

What is copper ridge? Is that new?

Yep. Prices go up over time on just about everything.

And DVC resorts have a finite end date on them. They did an extra-cost optional extension of time for OKW a few years back but it didn't go very well, and they haven't brought that up for the other older resorts.

It's a new part of Wilderness Lodge. There are very likely some posts on it. :)

It's used to be the case. It isn't really any longer. $600 onboard credit on the cruise = $600 off on land. That's why it's good to familiarize yourself with the current deals being offered just before sail away (or at the dvc sales pitch if you buy internet) so you know if it's a special deal or not. This is a BIG purchase. You don't want to be overly swayed by emotions and the sales pitch. You want to know what you're buying (so we don't have to counsel people in what they bought later lol) so you don't regret it or realize there were better deals out there that would work better for you.

Just out of curiosity, is it just the new resorts that are available while on DCL? I won't mind picking up some onboard credits while doing a small add-on at VGF or BLT!

Be careful. The "free points" usually aren't a perk. You get the points for the current use year you are in when you buy points. So, if it's June and you buy an August use year, you don't wait until August to get points you get them right away for the current year and again in August. They often sell this as free points but normally is what all get who buy direct.
