Current Cruise Pricing

I agree -- I've been trying for the last two years to do another European/Med type cruise back on the Magic. Each year they manage to shock me again. This year seems almost like a joke. We can take three cruises in oceanview rooms for the price of one Disney cruise!

I agree. We did the 9-night Norway cruise in 2015 and, if we took a similar cruise in 2017, we would have to downgrade 2 categories to get the same price. I understand price increases, but by 100% over two years? No way. We have a deposit we keep moving around and finally settled on a 2016 Fantasy cruise after I saw the 2017 prices. This will be our last DCL cruise. For Europe, we will most likely do Celebrity from here on out.

I so agree! It's killing me to pay summer 2017 prices for our next cruise but my husband won't even consider another line. I told him we could do the same 7 night Western itinerary on an Oasis class ship in a suite but he insists on doing DCL again. I guess I did too good of a job convincing him on our 3 night cruise that DCL is the best ... and I thought I was the Disney fanatic in our relationship. Yikes!!!

Yes. I had stated on the pricing thread that last year we did Princess 12-night British Isles cruise in a verandah for 3 adults, and comparing DCL pricing we saved over $10,000 by sailing with Princess -- same itinerary, same cabin. That's nuts!

The only way to get their attention is to stop booking. These rates are gouging and insulting. I don't see a large enough majority sticking together to do it though.

We're a family of 5 with small little ones and DCL wants $14,690 for an OV in the Caribbean and $18,609 for a Bal in Alaska.

My husband suggested leaving our 1yr old home since she won't remember anyway. I'd rather pick a different cruise line than pick who gets to stay.

Exactly. There are numerous posts here on the Dis where people are like "oh my gosh, these prices are CRAZY.....so, we endedup booking 2A2C in a cat 11b for $13,000....."

People either have a LOT more money than me or a LOT less sense. ;)

I don't know about people 'sticking' together however there are a lot of people, myself included, that are in the gold/platinum groups who are moving on to other cruise lines. Somewhere along the way that will hit a button.

If the people who used to be DCL's cheerleaders are going to start cheering for other lines, well, word of mouth is either good or bad advertising for a company and so very cheap. I see commercials nightly now for DCL where as I seldom saw them before. They are starting to spend money to attract people which is never good for the profit margins. Also, they are having to use Florida and Military rates more to fill the ships. Another sign that all may not be great.

I am paying close attention because I want to see the outcome. I believe they are going to have to do something, lets just see what.

Absolutely! We were originally booked on the 2016 12 night Magic Med cruise, but when they changed the itinerary, we cancelled. We then booked a 9 night Baltics cruise with Celebrity and for about $15k LESS than DCL, we got a Royal Suite with all alcohol, upgraded dining and wi-fi included. My DH and I kept checking to make sure the price was correct because it seemed too good to be true. We were too used to seeing DCL prices.

We have $$ to spend on trips, but we would like to see value for that $$! When you start pricing out other lines and other land-based vacations and you see such astronomical price differences for, in many cases, better experiences, DCL isn't even a consideration anymore.

THAT!

Really this is market pricing for DCL!. All the other lines charge their market prices. It is not gouging, it is free Enterprize. When they reach the point that people stop booking is when you will see the prices come down.

You may have noticed that all the lines are raising prices. Sometimes to more the DCL.

All of those other lines do have Mickey Mouse, Princesses and friends. Also dont have Castaway Cay, first run disney movies, etc.

Are the prices high, Yes. Can you get more for less on other lines, Yes. But my now 3 yr old DD cant sit on Cinderella's lap while she reads her a story in the nursery on Oasis of the Seas and she cant see the Tangled show on Princess Cruise lines.

I agree that Disney Charges a premium for their entertainment and right now for our family..........its worth it. When my DD is 16 and wants to rock climb, lay by the pool and do excursions I may change my mind but until then.......I am a familiar face at the rebooking desk. Based on how full the ships are lately, something tells me that we are not alone. :mic:

I might believe you if they SOLD OUT all their cruises at rack rate. But they don't. They offer GTY, Military, Florida Resident discounts VERY often. There are even 7 night Eastern sailings on the Fantasy being discounted for THIS SUMMER. That means they are pricing themselves ABOVE market value. When you need to utilize discounts to fill your ships in the summer, you are overpriced to begin with.

I would agree, however if DCL can get 80% of the rooms at regular pricing and only have to discount the last 20% to market price.................they are still coming out way ahead.

Apparently they disagree...hence the 2017 price increases.

It is also well known the other lines rely on discounted prices.

This! Instead, insert my 58 year old big burly husband who works 6 days per week that I had to drag kicking and screaming on the Dream earlier this year. He loved it so much and was so relaxed, I felt like we were on a second honeymoon! I mean his reaction really surprised me. At our final breakfast he was in tears as we said good bye to our wait staff which made me break out in tears. If my hubby wants a high priced summer DCL cruise then that is what he will get. I do hope eventually I will be able to drag him kicking and screaming on to an Oasis class ship. He may just be surprised at the type of stateroom we can get for the same price as a balcony on DCL. But until then I too will be at the rebooking desk with a smile on my face.:love2:

Well, they used to do KSF and 30% discounts as I recall, but then again maybe these were similar in quantity to what is offered now. I agree with Tonkas Skipper that this is just market value for DCL, and that other lines seem to be raising prices. Heck, if DCL can get so many k's for their interiors OVs,balc, conc, why shouldn't some of the other lines try for some of those dollars. Every time I look up other lines on their individual sites prices aren't drastically lower, in general. However, I could just be hitting the wrong dates/place/ room combos so don't flame that remark and good for those of you getting the good prices.

Would love to sail with DCL again, but no plans as of now due to cost combined with our schedules.

Yeah but they dont wait until 60 days out to discount. Which family cruise lines .
are higher than dcl. The more they raise their prices the more of these discounts are being offered.

Which Summer 2017 cruise did you book?

If you look around you find all types of discounts, different amounts and timing.

Apprently DCL still seem to feel they make more money with the discounts/ extra bookings.

However the bottom line is still the market price, discounts or no discounts. Overall DCL puts out a specail cruise none of the other lines can touch.

I was refering to March 2016 to March 2017 not summer.
