If you were going on a 4 night cruise and it was your first cruise, would you spring for a verandah room or just not bother as you would be too excited exploring the ship?
A veranda room is really nice to have. Even with the excitement of exploring the ship it's nice to have a place to just sit and watch the ocean go by. Good spot in the afternoon for an "All Hands On Deck" (cheese & crackers from room service) and your favorite beverage.

Will you be starting a separate thread on the parks section of the board?
I could… I don’t know what people would be interested in hearing about. Life at sea is so different from what most people know so that’s easy and interesting

Please everyone do let me know if you’re ever there; it would be fun to say hi! 💜
I'm local so I visit the parks regularly. Is your friend typically in a specific park?

Is Disney doing anything protect the Cast members who may have issues with ICE now in Florida?

There shouldn’t be any issues. Disney participates and requires I-9 verification for all employees, contractors and subcontractors.

In Anaheim, ICE isn’t targeting construction workers on Disney property, since Disney has verified that they’re all legally authorized to work (and thus live in) the US. But they’re targeting construction workers working on projects surrounding the DLR.

Same scenario will play out in WDW. ICE won’t be in Disney property but they’ll be in the area surrounding Disney, like Kissimmee. Many of the businesses in Kissimmee have long been known to hire people not authorized to work in the US.

The I-9 verification process is not a 100% guarantee that everything is ok. For I-9, you just need a SS Card and DL for verification. If they use E-Verify then it should catch fraudulent information, but E-Verify is not 100% foolproof either. The Omaha meat packing company that was raided earlier this year used it and it didn't catch that people we were using fake ID's.

The meat packing company was using e-verify but they weren’t doing background checks. Reportedly hundreds of people that work/worked there have been identified as using stolen identities - I wouldn’t be surprised if management/ ownership knew what was going on. Some reports say the investigation had gone on for quite awhile. We’ll see.

Of course, Disney does do background checks…

that doesn't cover the 100's of people whose status has been put in limbo. You do know that they aren't checking if the people going in the new place have any kind of status or committed any crimes.

Again, Disney is an I-9 compliant employer. That means that when an employee’s work status has changed, Disney is automatically notified. Per media reports, they’ve terminated the employment once they’ve been notified.

I think you are mixing up I-9 with E-Verify. The I-9 form, you just need to show the employer either your SS Card and DL or some other form of ID. None of this information is reported anywhere except on the form that the employer keeps on record. The employer is not required to turn in that information to the government. Now if the employer also runs the person through the E-Verify system, then they can run a report to see if they have employee's whose status has changed.

We are not required to use E-Verify so when we hire someone, I have the new employee fill out the I-9 form and show me the required ID, then I file the form with the employee's employment file. The only notification that I've ever received is when we had a project that required us to use E-Verify and it had issues with one employee, but I got that notice when trying to submit the information the first time. Which the employee got fixed and the only other E-Verify notices I receive is to change my password.

Thank you, it appears I'm the only one who knows any cast members who have had this happen to
