Cultural differences?

That is our cultural bias though.

The OP stated that nursing stats are much much much higher in her country---so that would be no diff than an article published in the US about new moms and babies...but being shown with a pacifier or a bottle.
I just think showing a happy family was more in line with the actual article(lesbian baby boom). Now if they were discussing lesbian's breastfeeding then the photo was correct. Of course how do I actually know it was a lesbian breast in the photo?;)

This maybe TMI, but I'll go ahead. I get more stimulation from DH carassing the back of my knees than I do from my breasts. Seriously. Not ALL women have that response. And that is fine and natural.
As long as your DH knows where the "spot" is you are all set.

Note to self:
Hug MJ really hard when I meet her, but stay away from her knees.
Oh come on you want to touch my knees! :teeth: Maybe I should have to cover them up. :confused3

OH and one more thing, it is the skin and nerve endings that create the reaction, not the actual nipple itself. So I guess skin is a sexual organ as well. :)

I suspect the photo was taken for a different topic and the photo editor decided to match it up with the article to get attention. It worked. :rotfl2:

To quote Cole Porter:

In olden days a glimpse of stocking / Was looked on as something shocking, / Now, Heaven knows, / Anything goes!

It's all cultural and in America breasts are more sexually objectified than in Denmark (and maybe Iceland too).

I don't find the picture offensive (and I am a bit of a prude, and don't mind being called one ;) ), but I do agree there are cultural differences to what is acceptable regarding an exposed breast. I do think in this country they are more sexualized, and I think the fact that they are sort of a "taboo" thing just makes them more so.

As far as the lump of fat thing, I have to agree with Miss Jasmine on that one, perhaps because I don't have any "lumps". :lmao: I guess the only men that would be interested in me would be gay. I'll be sure to fill DH in on his sexual orientation. I wonder how we have a child? :rolleyes1 Every woman has the same amount of tissue for breastfeeding, the rest of the difference IS just fat. Not all women find the area sensitive, and not all men find that part of the body such a big deal. I don't see the reason for calling anyone frigid over that.

Love that quote and you´re right about the rest.

well said - I also would call myself a prude on some things (more so latley, I think having a child does that to you a bit...normally pretty liberal on most things..) and don't find it all that terrible a label..depends on how it is used I suppose.

I also see no problem with the picture...I breastfed, had a subscription to "Mothering" for years (where these pics are pretty normal), ...no big!!!

as someone already said - editors do this quite often with pics...it only gets your attention when it is something you find offensive...and it the reacton of so many finding it offensive that is so sad.....

yes, there are cultural differences - and this is one I wish we could overcome.

breasts can be BOTH sexual and functional...grown ups should be able to tell the difference...

You're just a one man cultural difference aren't you?
No wonder many Europeans find GWB reasonably mature and intelligent for an American.

ford family

Hope all this made you feel better. I have no idea why you felt you had to make this personal by injecting yourself inbetween people who were simply joking around. Instead of reporting your *** I chose to joke around some more.

I'm not offended at all but I don't think a baby sucking on a teat should be a front page picture in a newspaper. There are still things that some people should do (in public) discretely. Breastfeeding is a natural thing. So is sex. Should we allow people to just "get it on" whenever/wherever they feel the need to? Sure, babies need to eat at certain times and we don't need to have sex as living sustenance but you could bring a bottle of breast milk instead for public feedings.

I must ask though, why isn't the picture of a baby actually suckling? What is the purpose of the exposed nipple?

You're complaining about an exposed ****?

Whatta world .......... I've lived too long. :lmao:

Sorry you got it wrong. The Op said it was a discussion board. It is not a generatl disccussion board but it is a Disney discussion board. Some Disney boards allow OT threads and some do not. We have many subboards that can and do go OT.

Here is the designation for the Community Board on which this subject was posted

Community Board
Join our moderators in a discussion forum for any topic, Disney or otherwise. Swap stories, information, ask questions...just be friendly :)

So it seems the community board is pretty much just a discussion board for pretty much anything. Also when I just looked at said community board only 5 out of 50 of the topics on the front page were about Disney and most of those were about the Tigger incident. Now if for some reason she posted this on another of the sub boards (for example...Restaurants) and it got moved I apologize, but I found it on the Community Board so the topic should very much be welcomed.

Thank you! And your statistics from the frontpage of the CB pretty much prooved the asumption I made earlier.

I think that's the whole point. Europeans are not as prudish as Americans when it comes to exposing the body. To them it's "just another breast". :confused3 To us it's "OH MY GAWD A BEWB!" :scared1:

Uh, totally agree here... :scared1: In this country we should cover the poor baby with a sweater or blanket while he eats (and sweats under said blanket) I cannot tell you how many times I fed our children in our conversion van with blacked out windows, watching TV all the while... But, when I fed them (anywhere) I never covered the poor babies up with a blanket to do so, although I was discreet....

Some people (even one of my best friends) are just completely PRUDISH in this regard... my goodness....
