Cultural differences?

I already told you earlier that the photo did not bother me.

Actually this is a Disney discussion board, so a photo of a Denmark lesbian's breast and her cute bundle of joy is not really why we all came here. I do enjoy some of the OT threads and others seem to be started for other reasons (to spout out ones personal views on religion, politics etc.).

So why did you have to state this? You DID want to make a point that we are lesser than those far-sighted Europeans.

I guess 99% of what is discussed on the Community board is non-Disney related. I can not see how this thread is any different than other threads on the board, apart from maybe the fact that the one who started it isn´t a US citizen.

Why do you believe that the OT threads that you don´t enjoy are started for "other reasons" as you put it. People are different and like discussing different things. Why would you assume that a thread is not a genuine discussion just because you don´t like it?

I have already said a couple of times and will say it as many times as neccesary. I DO NOT feel that people are lesser, worse, inferior or anything else (American or not) because they don´t like seeing exposed nipples. I just think it´s interesting to hear/see the various standspoints and reasoning therefore. Blame me, I honestly don´t care.

Some people just like to make interesting observations for the sake of discussion. I just finished a geography course where issues like this were often discussed. It doesn't have to be a debate. There ARE many differences about what is considered appropriate in public, based on what country or culture you are living in. If the photo had a baby holding a bottle, I doubt anyone would care whether the photo showed a baby feeding, or a baby with a lesbian couple.

I don't think the OP asked anyone whether the picture was "right" or "wrong". She basically said, isn't it interesting that there is such a difference in the way different people approach something like that. And it IS interesting. Whether you agree it's okay or not, it makes you think.

Thank you, I am glad someone could see where I was coming from. It is not about right or wrong, it is about how and why.

If you think about it, there is nothing really sexual about a breast.

This is something I have always wondered. Why make laws on nudity when it comes to exposure of the breast? A woman can expose as much skin as she wants to in a blouse. That is NOT nudity. However, once the areola and nipple is exposed, that is nudity. Now, if nudity in this example is simply the areola/nipple, why can a man expose one without the huge indecent exposure deal?

amen! Mickey fan either doesn't spend much time here or has a huge chip on their should er over the topic!

I think most Americans aren't actually opposed to or offended by an exposed nipple, but its just not something you see very often. I've never seen a woman expose her nipple while breastfeeding. That is not to say I would be offended by it, simply that it isn't often done. At least not where I live or in the places I frequent.

So yes, I do think its a cultural difference. If you are living in a place where its routine for a woman to be bare while feeding her baby, you are correct in thinking that is not the custom here.

Because man somehow turned a totally exposed breast into a sexual object and men were making the laws. My guess anyway. ;)

Exposed breasts are not scary. :lmao:

I think Herc and I would have to disagree. Some are VERY scary!!

If you think about it, there is nothing really sexual about a breast. It's a big lump of fat that can deliver nourishment. In fact it could be said that a man's fixation on a breast could have some sort of reflection on his relationship with his mother. ;)

As for the use of the word teat...hmmm.

Obviously you're a straight woman. :lmao:

Men like to look, but they don't want men looking at their woman.

Women will keep 'em hidden so we can't see another man's meat puppets.

Man Law?

Man Law!

Then explain to me what is sexual about a breast, besides what SOCIETY has told us. :confused3

And one can admire women without getting all caught up in breasts.

That was my line of thought as well. ;)

Ummmm, if a woman doesn't see anything sexual about her breast... Then she must be frigid, and her SO must be gay!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Actually my DH prefers other parts of my body. He's not a breast man. Believe me I am not frigid and he is not gay.

This is just an interesting line of thought. Tell me what makes a breast sexual?

Freyja can continue to bat her eyelashes and act all innocent.
But I, for one, am not fooled.
As I stated, I have read enough of these 'prude and repressed Americans' comments to know a negative judgment call and pot-stirring when I see it.

And, to clarify my earlier comment about the word Prude having a negative connotation. It does. Has anyone here ever called anyone a prude in a good way???

If all Freyja wanted was to discuss culteral differences, then there are other words that are not negative judgment calls that could be used.. ie; Modest, Chaste, Reserved, etc....

Well, I'll tell you, DH can't admire a woman (physically I mean) without getting caught up in breasts. He always looks a breasts first. I know one of his friends looks at butts and breasts are not at all important to him. I have no idea what turns men on and why and frankly I don't care.

You are kidding, right... You gotta be kidding... Perhaps you should go get some material on human sexuality and anatomy.

not offended at all here either...I think it's a great picture! That's the difference between Europe and the US though...seems like Europeans don't get offended by anything, or at least not as easily offended as some people in the US! I sometimes wonder if people here get "offended" because they think it's the proper thing to do! I for one, don't really get offended by much!

It's something a woman's got that us guys don't.

What makes a man's butt sexual to women? The only difference between the two is nipples and location. :confused3

I'm an American and I am not a prude nor am I repressed, thank you. However, I am not Modest, Chaste, or reserved either.

I also have no idea why a woman can't be modest and chaste and still expose her breast to feed her baby or are you calling the virgin Mary in classical paintings a slut?

Oh please. Take a look at the number of post (more than 4xs yours) and where I post before making a stupid statemen like this. The OP has called American prudes before, so past history is valid in this case.

I could careless what you do with your ****s.

If you spent much time on the CB you will know which type of threads I am referring to.
