Hi all,

I'm intrigued by a poster saying they took 13 to Chesapeake Bay Bridge instead of 95 the whole way! My family visits the Outer Banks NC frequently and this is the route we take. We love that drive, it's easy! Anyway....we have never driven to Disney but plan to this august. We automatically assumed 95 was the way to go. We will leave at dinner time on a Tuesday and drive straight through....please tell me which route you prefer and how long each way takes...thanks bunches :)

Well we only drive once but to ft. Myers but we went passed Disney and stopped at DtD on the way back home for a 2 hour tease.

We actually just got back yesterday.

I think it took us around 22-23 hours each way but subtract about 3 or so hours to ft. Myers.

We live shoreline/about 5 miles up from lei sound bordering the ct river.

We stopped at my moms both ways to pick her up on the way down, well we slept over Thursday night because she lives in Trumbull, a half hour from the ny line. And we stopped there on the way back home as well.

We took the parkway to the GW and straight down the NJT/95 to the Delaware memorial bridge. We took the Baltimore/wash parkway and the eastern loop around DC.

The way down we went thru Richmond but the way home we took 195 or 295 or whatever look went to the east of Richmond.

We hit traffic for no reason in VA. It looked like it could of been construction but we never saw anyone working. It was before we hit Richmond for miles and miles. We happened to get off to get gas and stayed on route 1 for a bit and when we were about 1/2 mile from getting back on it was backed up on route 1.

We also hit traffic yesterday on the NJT closer to NYC, over the GW, the hutch due to an accident on the other side and then the MP was good for the ride to Trumbull.

These are rough estimates:

We left Trumbull at 6am. Stopped in NJ since my ds decided he needed to do #2, then we hit that VA traffic and we ended up stopping at around 9:30-10 in Santee, sc. We were trying to get to savannah but that wasn't happening! We probably stopped a maximum of 2 hours that day between dinner, gas and bathroom breaks.

Looking thru texts to my sister, we got to DC around 11:30, at around 1 we were in traffic on 95 but got off to take route 1 since it was moving. At about 3 we werein Richmond. At 6pm we were 84 miles from the sc border.

The next morning we left at about 6:15. At 9:30 we were At the TA in Jacksonville for gas. At 11 we got on 1-4 and at 12 we just passed Mickey!

My Dh and I have driven to St. Louis, Nashville, Michigan, Columbus and Louisville prior to kids for car shows in a tiny fiero so we knew it was going to be long. We also drove to myrtle beach twice. But Virginia and the Carolina's killed us. Those states like PA don't want to end!

I asked my Dh if he wanted to take the Chesapeake bridge home and he said no because it would of added time and the road in Delaware is not a fast road. We traveled on the weekend thru DC on the way home and the way down we didn't hit any rush hour problems due to the time we left.

We are also going. To Disney in August but we are flying. We are arriving August 3rd.

And we are planning on a ft. Myers trip next April (my sister moved there) but our spring break ends on Easter or the day after so we are thinking if the auto train since I know flights will be crazy expensive.

We also used the google maps traffic app which was pretty much accurate.

IF you are leaving CT at dinner time, I would think I 95 is a good bet.

File this away for another trip though....

Another option, though not faster than taking I 95 (at the right time of day!), is to take the Garden State Parkway all the way to the end, and then take the ferry from Cape May to Lewes. From Lewes, you connect to Rt. 24, then 113, then 13 and can go right to VA Beach area over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. Head out of the VA Beach area on your favorite route of 64/264/664 to Rt. 58 and hook up with I95 in Emporia, VA.

Normally, I only suggest this route for those of us who live in southern Cape May County or folks coming from farther north than you looking for a rest (ferry). BUT, I noticed they did some serious changes to the ferry schedule recently that might make this attractive to someone else. :goodvibes

I've driven 3 times from CT. First trip we did the 95 route- took about 21 hours from New Haven area.

The last 2 times we took the inland route through Pennsylvania. It took about 19 hours and was a much less stressful drive.
