CT disers (or anyone else), have you been to Lake Compounce?

We've been to Lake Compounce and would recommend it. We drove from MA and thought it was worth the drive.

I live in CT and haven't been to Lake Compounce in about 17 years! The last time I went I was 16 to see a Steve Miller concert. I don't think they do concerts there anymore. I'm sure it's changed a lot, now that I have kids maybe we'll go up this summer.

I have not been to Lake Compounce since i saw New Kids on the Block there like 20 years ago. I did take DD to Quassy a few years back. She liked it but she was 3. So it was ok for a little one. I probably would not recommend it though...

I would definitely go to Lake Compounce over Quassy. Its bigger, cleaner, and much more up-to-date. Quassy is really really old, those rides scare me.

We actually really like Lake Compounce - they have a good mix of rides for everyone and it's small enough to do in a day. We generally hit the rides first thing in the morning when it's not so crowded and then head for the water park after lunch.

I grew up in Bristol (very close to Lake Compounce) - definitely would go there versus Quassy. The water park has slides and a small wave pool, there's a tube ride...plus you can swim in the lake (if you like swimming in lakes)...and there's lots of rides for every age.

I remember when they used to have concerts! I was able to get very close to the stage for Sting, also saw Jimmy Buffett there....:woohoo:

Another vote for Lake Compounce (although I haven't been to either in years)

Last time I was at Quassy, I was 13 or 14 and even back then it was kind of dirty, and the rides were OLD . . .

We used to live in Connecticut. We never went to Quassy, but we went to Compounce (always had the better reputation and we were in the area). We really enjoyed it. It had a nice mix of rides for everyone and the water park area and lake were a pleasant way to end the day.

Its so funny I lived in Mass at the time but came to CT for the concert as my stepdad was living in Bristol. We moved to CT when i was 16 and so many of my friends had also gone to the concert. It was funny I had the choice of that or Milli Vinilli hahaha.

But I love Lake Compounce. My daughter and I go every year. I am hoping to get a season pass. I like to go one day during the week and we will spend from Open to Close there. I think the price is reasonable and the food also is not that badly priced. She loves the water park. Enjoy!

We love Lake Compounce. Our friends live in Aston. The best thing is the free soda. We usually hit the water park in the morning and the rides at night. I like it better than Six Flags Anawan

I've never heard of either. I grew up going to Rocky Point in RI. Thanks for the sites. I think I'll check out that Lake Compunce one. :thumbsup2 We used to love Riverside, but hate what its become since Six Flags took over.

Question: How are the lines? And not knowing its location / proximity to a city, does it attract the city kids like Six Flags does? I swear they bus them in there. Its not very "family" there.

Definitely Lake Compounce! However, I would say Quassy for Ages 3 & 4 since the rides are more like the cheesy carnival rides are not not intense.

Lake Compounce is the far better choice. How far of a drive is it for you? I used to take my little one to Quassy when she was 2 or 3, but we are the next town over from it, and I would not drive more than maybe 30 min. to go there. They do have lots of little cheesy rides for small ones, though. It is a local kind of thing, though.

Having said that, don't expect Compounce to be a large park, either. We are not too far from them, also. I think their kiddie part is nice, and when we were up for the 30 min. ride, we used to go there a lot, especially when my daughter was free. She is older now, and last year is the first year we did not get a season pass. There are only a few coasters, but having said that, Boulder Dash is one of the best wooden coasters you'll find anywhere. The water park is nice, but in years past it opened later than the park itself did, and it does get extremely crowded most days. If you don't grab a chair first thing, you won't find one till late afternoon. The lines for the other rides are usually tolerable, except for the very slow loaders like the ferris wheel and Ghost Hunter. (The kiddie ride lines are usually very short, so if your kids are little, it might be a good choice.) Hope this helps. Oh, and if your kids are tweens or older, don't miss Haunted Graveyard in the fall,

Quassy is really for ages 2-5. It is like a permanent carnival as one person said. I agree. There is not much there, but it is very cheap and a young child would enjoy it.

I'm 33 and have been going to Compounce since I was three- Love it! It had a few rough years, but it pulled through stronger than ever. Like a pp, I stopped going to Riverside when it became 6 Flags. Lake Compounce is nothing like that. It is a family park- people are generally polite- line relatively short. Most rides are pretty new and they constantly make improvements to the park. Soda & water is free. The water park is great fun- not too big, but plenty to do. The only line that is really deceptive is Ghost Hunt- it moves painfully slow, but is a great ride (Buzz Lightyear, with different themeing). The river rapids ride is way better than Kali River Rapids- if you are going to the water park go on the raft ride while you are still in swim gear, but don't forget your shoes- it is a long walk back and you need 'em. The only "gangs of kids" you will see are church groups and playground groups. We take my neice from Colorado there every summer and she loves it- she will be 8 1/2 this summer.

I live 5 minutes away from Compounce & haven't been in about 16 years. When my kids were really little we just went to Rye Playland since I hate Quassy and now we just have never bothered with Compounce.

I've taken my dd to Playland a few times. With the individual ride tickets, loading is PAINFULLY slow......
