crutches or wheelchair?

Our friends daughter just broke her ankle one week before their trip. Many people have told her they will now get front of the line access -- which I told her was untrue. Would it be easier for her to stay in the wheelchair through the line que or to use her crutches? Can she be pushed in the wheelchair and get out and board the ride on her own and leave her wheelchair at that point? Any tips would be appreciated, I'm sure this has been asked many times.

You are right there is no more front of the line access. If she rents a chair she will stay in the chair until she boards the ride. A CM will move the chair and bring it back when she needs it again.

Definitely use the wheelchair --- I can't imagine switching back and forth to the crutches while waiting in line.

We just got back from our WDW trip with my mom (who can't easily transfer from the wheelchair) and my MIL (who needed the wheelchair because she can't walk the parks, but could get on rides with little assistance).... the CM's were terrific and are quick to point you in the right direction when you approach the ques, shows, etc.

Check about getting a wheel chair at your resort. They take a credit card imprint and then tear it up when you bring the chair back at the end of your stay.

There is no way she will be able to hobble the parks on crutches without being miserable. Best, of luck to your friend for a safe and fun trip.

Some of the lines also look short when they are not. For example, the Safari at AK might only have a 10 minute wait BUT you need to walk a long way from the line entrance to the actual boarding area.
In almost all rides/attractions, you can take a wheelchair up to the boarding area. For some rides you can stay right in the wheelchair for the ride, but there are limited numbers of wheelchair accessible cars/areas and you will need to wait longer for them.
If you are staying at a WDW resort, you may be able to get a wheelchair loaned to your for your stay, but some posters have written that what they needed and what was available were 2 differnt things (like they needed a narrow adult size chair and got an extra wide, or vise versa). They could also renta wheelchair from one of the local medical equipment places:
