Cruising the Dream on our 1st cruise ever!!! (5 Night Double Dip)

Really enjoying your TR and your pics:goodvibesIt's reminding me how much I loved the Dream and how clean and NEW everything was. We're sailing on the Magic in June for the first time and I'm getting nervous that it will just not measure up to the Dream. Looking forward to reading more.

I've actually asked a few people who loved the Magic and Wonder and then went on the Dream and they say each one has their own individual beauty and they were in no way disappointed going back to the older ships. They are smaller so offer an intimacy the Dream just can't. I really think you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks so much for your compliments :goodvibes

As we continue with Day 1's afternoon, after finishing our delicious afternoon snacks we headed up to Deck 12 for a good view of the Sail Away Deck Party. Deck 11 was swamped, and I had read many tips where people get a great view from Deck 12. Well, those people must have gotten there a bit earlier because we were still only able to see the party from the jumbotron. We still had enough time for last minute check-ins before turning off our phones and then the party began. It was very fun. And it just so happened that the gorgeous Shane was performing so that made things that much better.

I snapped a cute picture of my favorite Duck in a compromising position. Poor guy looks like he's stuck for good.

After the party we wandered up to the bow to watch the sailing away part and I tried to find the CMs waving from the terminal but we had already passed them. I suggested we go watch from our wonderful verandah so we did. We really couldn't believe we were finally on our way. Our bags had arrived at this point so we just pulled them in the room.

Sailing away!

I had smuggled a Kermit plush for mom's birthday in my carry-on and had been waiting for a good time to unveil him, so while mom was on the verandah I posed him lounging on the couch and couldn't wait for her to see him. The coast guard escorted us out and we saw a huge turtle floating below. We ended up enjoying the view from the verandah a bit too long and had to run out to get to our DVC meeting with Amile in time. Long story short I treated myself to some Aulani points. :woohoo: And the prize we received for being one of the first five to have a meeting was a beautiful leather organizer. Well since I had traded the one mom had won earlier she was the lucky receiver of this much better one.

We had stayed a bit too long with Amile so raced up to the show. We had second dining at 8:15 so had the 6:15 showtime. Tonight was the Golden Mickeys and since we were late we completely missed the pre-show where CMs act like paparazzi and you're arriving on the red carpet. A cute Disney touch that I would have liked to see but there's always next time. We actually weren't late at all, our cruise director Clayton was still chatting about the cruise. We sat in the balcony, which we continued to do for every show. It was never crowded and the view was wonderful.

Not a good photo, but the best I have of Clayton. He was a fabulous cruise director, very nice and full of energy.

View from the balcony. The theater was so beautiful.

It was a fun show. Lots of 'clips' from various Disney movies done Broadway style.

Afterwards we headed up to the room where we unpacked our suitcases and mom discovered her Kermit. The gleeful surprise I'd been anticipating did not disappoint. We actually got everything away before dinner and stowed the suitcases under the bed. They fit very comfortably under there with lots of room to spare. I'm sure four giant suitcases could fit. Off to dinner at Animator's Palate. I had been looking forward to this restaurant more than the other two so was super excited to be going the first evening.

Up next, Animator's Palate!

All caught up! Congratulations on getting yourself some Aulani points! So exciting :) And what a great surprise for your mom, I bet she loved it!

Thank you :) I knew I was going to buy them next year so just took advantage of the great offer they had. I'm so excited! They also gave us a $500 shipboard credit which worked out perfectly.

Mom was tickled pink! I felt wonderfully sneaky having him in my carry-on the whole time.

I have had some wonderful cruise directors and some ok cruise directors... To me they make a huge difference on a cruise.

Someone who is fun and engaging is wonderful!

Congratulations on your Aulani points.

I wondered where Clayton was nowadays. We had him as cruise director on one cruise and as assistant cruise director on two others and he is fantastic.

He really did make a difference. Every night he recapped the day and made sure we knew the various teams in charge of activities so we could appreciate them. He also told us the highlights of the next day, and during the day he would make announcements over the loud speaker to remind us of certain things. And he was excited about telling us. I saw him one night in the atrium and thanked him for his hard work.

Thank you :) One of the reasons we were with Amile so long is I was debating between Aulani or Animal Kingdom, and decided on Aulani since it has 5 more years. The problem is I love AKV so much I was just going round and round in my mind which one to choose.

Clayton really was fabulous. I would be completely happy to cruise with him again.

Congrats on the Aulani points. I'm surprised that being from the East Coast you still chose to purchase. There are so many people I've heard say that it's too far for them to go.

I can't wait to stay there next year!

Loving the report!

Hi Pam,

Joining in for the fun! I'm enjoying your pix, and like that you are posting some images that I don't always see in TR's. :goodvibes

We have just 19 days until our first cruise!! Dreaming of the Dream! ;)

Thank you :)

I fell in love with the resort the first time I saw pictures of it, and then that Samantha Brown special just clinched it for me. I love traveling so no place is too far to go for me. I'm sure I'll stop at DL every time I go to so that will work out perfectly. They are also increasing the cost for each of the resorts this month so I wanted to buy before the price increased. Since I knew 100% I'd be buying them next year I figured why not now. It'll save more money in the long run. It ended up being $112.50 per point and I don't foresee it being that low again even with deals. If I'm wrong I'm still really happy with my purchase.

Please take tons of pictures when you go! What are your dates again? I'm thinking the earliest I'll be able to get out there is next September or October.

Welcome! Thank you :) Lots more pictures to come. I specifically tried to take pictures I'd not seen before myself. Glad you're enjoying :)

You guys are going to have a fabulous time!!!

So we headed down to Deck 3 with our dining tickets in hand. They looked at them the first evening and that was it. All our dining companions were already there, and at first I thought they knew each other since they were all from Canada. :sad2: I did this same thing when I met some Californians down in Florida, thought for sure Alison would know them :rotfl:

We were lagging by now from being up at 4am and all the excitement of the day, mom much more so than me. I tried chatting with everybody but the family of 4 was a bit stand-offish. It was their first cruise as well, and I'm not sure they knew they'd be sitting with strangers. There was also a mother/daughter pair who had been on many cruises previously, the daughter actually worked on the Magic which was pretty cool.

We were seated at one of the tables next to the walls, and I've read that's where you want to be if you want to be involved in a conversation with Crush. I actually would much prefer to be in the middle where I can see the screens better because the screen next to us was so big I couldn't take in the sight without moving my eyes aroud.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012192.jpg

And the screen was so bright it projected it's colors onto my pictures. But look at that cute butter knife shaped like a paintbrush! You could buy them in the gift shop.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012193.jpg

We were at table 118. You are assigned a table number and serving team for your cruise. Your serving team follows you to each of the three main dining rooms and you sit at the same table number the whole time. The only time you have different servers is if you go to one of the adult only restaurants, Palo or Remy, or if you choose to skip your main dining and go to Cabanas. It was such a great experience having the same servers every night because they got to know your likes and dislikes and remembered them perfectly.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012196.jpg

We both started with the 'Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes', Pasta Purse filled with Truffle scented Cheese and coated with a delicate Champagne Sauce. These were wonderful, probably should have gotten two orders for myself.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012197.jpg

I also got the Wild Mushroom Risotto and Porcini Twist. This was too strong for me, but mom really liked it.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012198.jpg

I skipped the soup/salad course, but mom had the 'Curly Endive, Arugula and Watercress Salad Sliced Peaches with Toasted Almonds and tossed with a Sherry Vinaigrette'. She enjoyed it. I realized halfway through I hadn't taken a picture.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012200.jpg

I was not sure about entrees. I had of course poured over all the menus for months, and nothing stood out to me so I got the 'Grilled Pacific Black Cod With Sautéed Morel Mushrooms on a Yellow Split Pea Purée'. I totally forgot to get a picture and actually sent it back. The texture of the fish was not pleasant. I would normally never send anything back, but I've read countless people say your serving team wants you to be happy and you can order as many things off the menu as you want so make sure you're happy. I resorted to the 'White Shrimp Pennette Pasta Tossed with a Basil and Reggiano Parmesan Cheese Sauce and topped with a Parmesan Cheese Wafer'. I was not in the mood for shrimp but figured I could pick through them. I should have just asked for the pasta because I did exactly that a few times later in the cruise and there was no problem at all. Somehow I forgot a picture of that also.

I did remember to take a picture of mom's 'Black Bean Chipotle Cakes Over Corn Kernels and Brown Rice topped with Tomato-Cilantro Salsa'. I don't think she finished them, but she did like them. She wanted to save room for dessert.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012199.jpg

Since her birthday was on our reservation they first brought her a birthday dessert. Crush must have been back since the blue sheen had returned. She said the cake was fabulous.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012201.jpg

She also had the 'Sweet Temptations' A Trio of Crunchy Walnut Cake, Pineapple Financier, and Lemon Mousse. She couldn't finish anything but the Crunch Walnut Cake which she said was fabulous.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012205.jpg

I had both of the sugar free desserts. I somehow don't have a picture of the Lemon Mousse With Mango Coulis and Dark Chocolate, but this is a picture of the Dense Chocolate Cake Brownie, Caramel Sauce and Whipped Cream. It wasn't the best, a little on the dry side.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012206.jpg

Another picture of the restaurant. It did change colors a little bit but definitely not to the extent of the Magic and Wonder. I think the color changing went along more with Crush's show. The servers outfits did not change at all. From what I've heard the Animator's Palate in the Fantasy will be more like the other ships.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse2012207.jpg

Overall this turned out to be my least liked restaurant on the ship.

Late joining the party here but am loving your TR. Wonderful pictures and I like your writing style. :goodvibes

Wow Pam - I didn't realize I got so far behind over the weekend. Great updates! Love the view from your verandah. Your dinner looks yummy. Sorry you didn't love it.

Where is the picture of Shane?????

Thanks for recommending the cruise tour. I will remember to do that when.

Was this a DVC member cruise?

Congrats on the new contract at Aulani, no less. Nice!

I've been trying to get at least one update a day. Day one had so many things jam packed it seems to be going on forever.

The view from the verandah was so perfect! I'll have more of course :) I'm trying to post in order of how they were taken to keep the flow of the trip.

Dinner was just ok, I would only get the appetizer again. Later on I realized I could pick and choose sides from different entrees to make up my own meal so I should have done something like that.

There just might be a video of Shane later :rolleyes1

The cruise tour was definitely a must do.

It wasn't a member cruise. I'd like to go on one but it is outrageous how many points they cost. They also let you pay in cash and that's outrageous also. The reason we used points is because when I bought DVC last January they gave us 2010 points, which I think they usually do since they did that with the Aulani points also, so I had so many points I 'knew' I couldn't use up. I never ever in my life thought I wanted to do a cruise, but it being mom's birthday she wanted to go so that's what we did. And I'm in love  It saved about $2400 using points so I'll be using points to cruise whenever I can.

I am so excited about Aulani. I was really torn about having to choose to between Aulani and AKV but it worked out. I kept saying, I can't believe I just did that. I actually didn't sign paperwork until two days later since that was when the deal was officially being released. They were able to tell us early due to some loophole being on the cruise.
