Cruising on Points??

I went to the travel agent yesterday and went over the materials on the cruise. I generally thought it was better to pay cash and rent my points but wanted all the facts. Now when I look at the point chart, the best cabin listed is a Cat. 4. We need a cat 3 because of our group size.

Does anyone know is that impossible on points or is that a special thing I have to call MS to figure out?

Thanks
Sandy

I know they offered Cat 3 for the special DVC cruise. I've also seen it posted that you can do cat 3 on points but you have to call to see how many. If this is true, it's not uncommon for DVC to just post the more common or popular options. They do it this way with exchanges as well where they only list the 1 and 2 BR exchanges and not the studio and 3 BR options. I'd call and ask.

Not sure how many adults vs. children, but you may want to think about two lower category cabins: additional bathrooms and privacy and you may end up saving points/money this way.

Just a thought.

You can book a category 3 on points. It is not listed on the point charts but is available through member services. We booked a category 3, 7 night Magic eastern carribean for 7/24/2004 one person cash and one person on points. They can be difficult to book, however. Remember, there is an 11 month booking window for point reservations but cabins through DCL can be booked often up to 2 years in advance. Category 3 are often booked early and are rarely if ever discounted. Also, be prepared for a premium point charge. It was 541 points for one person for the seven night cruise.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It was actually cheaper (cash wise) to get 1 category 3, which has 2 bathrooms than adjpoining rooms in a lower category because of the adult/child ratio.

Sounds like I was definetly right on not doing points though, it is $2,980 per adult so I can rent 541 points for $5,410 (with extra work) but have it cover one adult and 3 children.

Thanks again
Sandy

Hello,

Just wanted to mention that we booked for the july 24 2004 7 day eastern as well, but we also have a larger family and liked the idea of more bathroom space, so we booked 2 adjoining cabins one on points with 3 of us and one on cash with 2 others, we will prop the door and have a suite, but saved $$$$$ and points.

Just another option to consider.

Dr Do we are from NJ too!! See you in July!!
