Cruising on Points and Cash?

If I don't have enough DVC points to do the Disney Cruise, can I also use cash for the rest? Has anyone done this? If so, how does Disney handle this? Thanks for any information.

We used points for me and my DS, and my DH paid cash. The only thing I noticed was that my DH paid top dollar for his share.

You must pay for at least one adult in points, everyone else can be cash or points, but must be one or the other (no ones fare can be half points/cash). You will pay the $75 fee for booking outside DVC and also the full amount for the cash portion of your fare immediately. When you book only with cash you can wait to pay in full until 3 months(?) before sailing.
As far as paying "top dollar" for the other people in your cabin, I can only tell you that when we traveled a couple of weeks ago we paid half with cash and half points. My sis sailed with her family in the cabin next to us in the same category. She booked direct and paid cash to DCL. We paid LESS than half of what she did for 2 adults and 2 kids. We booked at 11 months out and she booked at 8 months... Either way, the cruise was FABULOUS!!!!! Go and you will not regret it~

This past Jan. we used our DVC pts. on the Disney Wonder four day cruise. The day after we booked on points the cruise cash price was reduced. When I called back to discuss the matter, I was advised there was nothing that could be done. In my case it would have been a better value to pay cash.

MS explained they have no way of knowing when the DCL is going to reduce the price; hence, they cannot advise DVC members when we call to make reservations. Although MS agreed there should be a way to tie the systems together at present there is no way of knowing when the cruise cash prices will be placed on sale.

We had a great time and the service on the cruise was second to none. Enjoy!!
