Yesterday I was at the Maritime Museum in Rotterdam. There was a very small section about Holland America Line, which was founded 150 years ago in Rotterdam.

Lots of posters through the ages, but also silverware, programmes, memorabilia.

Two tidbits I thought were fun to share here. Great to see how they focused on the customer experience. They carried it out much more than I expected they would. I would think back then they would just tell everyone once how they wanted the crew to behave, but this makes it much more of the DNA of the company.

From 1960, a poster from the crew areas backstage defining what is a passenger.

From the guest program of the Eastern Caribbean 7 day cruise 1-7 May 1983, on the ship S.S. Rotterdam.

BTW, the museum itself is nice, but I am not sure if I would recommend it if you are visiting Rotterdam. The museum is fully bilingual, Dutch-English, but some parts are probably more interesting if you are Dutch.

My parents went on a Princess cruise for their honeymoon in the 70s and one thing that has changed since then is the lack of ice sculptures now.
