Don't you think that would look WONDERFUL (no pun intended):lmao::lmao: on FE gifts??:)

Can we change the title of the thread?? Maybe Maria since you opened the thread?

I'm so darned excited for this trip I can't stand it!!

For those of you who have cruised with kids before, do you let your "tween" age kids check themselves out of the clubs, walk back to the room to get something by themselves, etc.?

I'm a little over-protective, but it just seems to me that you're on a ship in the ocean, or at a port in a different country, and a lot could happen. At the same time, I know my 11 year old son will be wanting some independence on the ship. He's already staying home by himself after school which saves on daycare bills but makes me sad to think he's growing up so fast! :sad1:

So what are you all planning to do? :confused3

Jenni

I am so glad you asked this because we are debating this same question.

Part of me says let them do it...they are good responsible kids.

But I think it is the part of me that doesn't want them to grow up that is having trouble with it.

I would love to know what others think and what you decide....it would help me!!!

Jenni,

Personally, I do not. I trust my daughter SOOOO much ... it's other people I'm not so trusting of. I know it's "Disney" and all ... but I did read about a girl being assaulted by a castmember sometime last year ... so I don't do it. If we are at the pool and she needs to run back to the room for something, I let her ... but otherwise, we haven't ... and won't this time.

Kat

I trust both of my children completely . . . however, they will NOT have sign-out privileges on the cruise. It's the other people I don't trust.

With that said, to each his own!! Do whatever makes you comfortable!!!:thumbsup2

I will be out of town all weekend, so I will PM each of you the final list of participants on Sunday night (names, ages).

If you already know your stateroom number, please send me that information. (we have to know where to deliver your goodies, you know!)

If some of you are guarantee rooms (like me), just PM me when you find out your stateroom number, ususally about 1 month before.

I will send out an updated list a little later. The list I will send Sunday will give everyone a chance to see how many people and ages are involved to help with shopping.

By the way, so far the majority of voters want Option #4, do your own thing.

I've been leaning toward something similar Kat - let them run to the room for a quick trip if needed, but not checking themselves out of the club. If they're just running to the room, I'll know when they left and when they should be back. If they can leave the club without my knowledge, then that's a whole other ballgame.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone!

On to the next question! I'm setting up my transfers to and from the airport. If our flight leaves MCO Sunday at 1:20, what time do I want the town car to pick us up? What time do they force you to leave the ship?

I don't want to rush off the ship only to sit for hours at the airport, but I also want to allow plenty of time to get through security and not be late. I'm talking to ****** and they said the majority of their DCL customers are off by 9 am. Should I go for that?

Jenni

Can you believe how close we are? The fact that we set this up a year ago after we got back from Disney last year... WOW....

Oops, I guess I wasn't supposed to mention the name of the town car company? Sorry!

The ship is definitely empty by 9 ... I think they ask that you are off by 8:30 actually so 9 will work out just fine. :)

I've seen the lines for the security check point in orlando really, REALLY long ... it's taken us up to 30 mins to wait in that line so thats one airport where we don't mess around ... you definitely need time to get to your gate there but you will have plenty of time ... get in, get to your gate, get some lunch.

We will have our rental car at the port and I think our flight is like around 5 or so ... we will stop at a few places on the way back, maybe Downtown Disney, etc ...

There is a thread on the main cruise board about fires/things occuring onboard and I copied this from that post ... it runs along with what Maria and I were saying about not trusting other people onboard ...

2.1.07
Disney Wonder A 21 year old male passenger from New York was arrested in the Bahamas after allegedly sexually assaulting a 13 year old girl onboard the ship. The ship was on a four-day New Year's cruise from Port Canaveral to Nassau return. "

that 21 year old wouldn't have been able to walk off the ship after he was arrested if that was my child he assulted.

gaud - you think you're kids are safe - good lesson that the mouse don't mean 100 % safe.

even worse when it's the actual staff that do the crimes

"22.3.06
Disney Wonder
The parents of a girl have filed suit against Disney Cruise Line after their daughter was allegedly sexually assaulted by a crew member while on the October 2, 2005 cruise from Port Canaveral. The suit "alleges the crew member 'falsely imprisoned, sexually assaulted, exposed himself to, and intentionally inflicted emotional distress.'" See the Orlando Sentinel for more. "

I will say that one of the moderators added that the charges were never actually filed or the case didn't actually go through, which questions the validity of the claim against the castmember.

Well that just helped me to make my mind up. They will be waiting at the club for us to pick them up. No signing themselves out.

This is just one more reason why I love this board!!!

Shannon

I agree Shannon. Scary! Thanks for all your help Kat.

On a lighter note, I'm going to put the finishing touches on our fish extender today. I'm having trouble keeping my mouth shut around the kids.:yay: I'll think of something I want to say about what we should take with us on the cruise, or see an ad on TV for Atlantis, etc. and then have to remind myself that it's still supposed to be a surprise! I can't wait to tell them!:cheer2:

HI All -
Just checking in to see what is going on...To all of the "First Timers," if you have any questions please feel free to ask. My Dw and I have quite abit of DCL experience. We'd be happy to answer any questions if we can.

I have read your conversations about letting your kids sign themselves out. At this point, our children are way too young, however, I agree with the "you can never be too careful" thought process. I am an over-protective, former Navy, Dad that watches like a hawk. It works for us, but not for everyone. I know it's "Disney", but you can never be too safe with yoru kids. Just mho.
