Hello, (I hope this is posted in the correct place)
A Disney cruise ship is docking locally in my area, Newcastle UK. I am trying to find out if I would be able able to visit on board just for the day? Is it possible to buy a day ticket/pass just to look around. I've researched but had no luck.
Thanks in advance
Georgia :-)

I doubt it.

There are a few cruiselines that have "check out our ship" programs. Princess and Holland America do, I know, but I believe they only do it in US ports. On Princess, anyone can purchase the Bon Voyage Experience, where cruisers can pay extra to allow family/friends to check out the ship on embarkation day. Individuals who are not connected with current cruisers can also purchase this. On Holland America, we did a tour/lunch on one of the ships when docked in San Diego. We had to be on a list that a Travel Agent submitted, but not actually in the company of the Travel Agent. There was no extra cost for that.

But on Disney, there is no program for purchasing a "day ticket" or tour.

Unfortunately there is no day pass or ticket. Only those with a cruise KTTWC are allowed on board. You can't even bring guests on board for the day if you are a ticketed passenger.

Occasionally, Travel Agents can make advance arrangements to take a few clients on board for a tour on embarkation day. That may only happen in U.S.ports, however.

Do you know Disney to do this? Personal experience?

They "offer" it, BUT I have never seen an actual date listed where an agent could request to come aboard. It always says something along the lines of check back later. Its been that way for about two years. Perhaps I just keep missing it...but that is what I have experienced. I am also 99% sure its only for IATA holders and not for guests of the agent.

EDIT to add, they are called FAM tours.

I've not seen it on Disney, but have witnessed it on the other four lines we frequent (RCL, Carnival, HAL, and Princess). A TA that specializes in Disney may know better how Disney deals with TA requests. DW was in the event management business for decades, and she's had opportunities to do tours for large group charters, but we never took advantage of those. The 3 days being wined and dined at WDW was fun though :)

Yeah, I know. I said that Princess and Holland America do it. But I don't think Disney does. MunFam has interesting info posted about this. It looks like Disney is does have that option (rarely), but not for us "regular" type people. As OP is.

Just off Oasis and they allowed visitors as well. I was pretty surprised since I hadn't seen that in a long time. (Many) Years ago it was pretty common.

There was a group of about 10 (travel agents ? ? ?) aboard the Fantasy for a tour prior to any pax boarding in Oct 2014 @ Port Canaveral. They left around 2 - 3 pm.

I believe we saw this once before in fall 2012 too fwiw.

Hmmmm....I'm wondering if they were part of the Disney training that they do for the Disney Cruise Specialist Travel Agents?

It's very possible. They were being escorted by at least two CMs talking about everything. We saw them everywhere aboard prior to there departure.

There was a travel agent day in Dover this year as I know someone who was lucky enough to attend.

DCL don't tend to do these but as said others do. In the UK it tends to be Dover or Southampton that get them. Cunard, Crystal, Regeant & P&O all do them plus others probably too

I also saw people, ( I assumed they were TA, from reading their lanyards), on The Magic in Dover this summer.

I also have a friend that is a TA and she told me that she was able to tour The Dream a few years ago in PC.

Disney cruise ships occasionally dock in my college town, and me and my friend would go to a nearby park and "watch" the night time show. We could only see blurs, but we could hear everything. So, if there are places nearby, you might be able to catch a little magic.

On our Panama Canal cruise they had local media people on board. I remeber seeing a lady from a Cartagena TV station filming in the atrium on our day there.

So, that's your opportunity: become a writer for a Newcastle local newspaper and try to get to write a story about DCL's first visit to Newcastle! :goodvibes
