I will be on the Dream the end of October with a stop in Cozumel. I have not been anywhere in Mexico before. I’m not really focused on beach time here - as I have lots of that on the itinerary already. Looking for a more cultural experience - any suggestions are welcome!

I took a leap of faith and did this non-Disney cooking class, https://www.cozumelchef.com/services/authentic-mexican-cooking-classes/

It was myself, teenage son, and parents. We had a total blast and I highly recommend it. It would have been easy to walk to the meeting place, but we took a taxi because of my parents. The hardest part was getting the taxi to the meeting point, but not too bad. The food was great.

My family and I are booked on the Mayan Ruins, Chocolate Tasting, and Beach Break excursion next week, by request of my older son, who studied the Mayans this year in social studies.

The Lucha Libre excursion gets really good reviews. I would have liked to do the Alebrijes excursion (though they're really from a different part of Mexico), but my little one is too young.

Honestly - go downtown and enjoy the food. I can't recommend enough going a few blocks in away from the tourist traps, and getting yourself an amazing meal.

La Cucina Italiana - It's like eating in your mother's kitchen. Honestly my favorite lunch spot on the island.
Ohana - Owner is from Chicago, and brought good deep dish pizza to the island. Try the Peanut Butter Tekila!
K'ooben Laab - Handmade pasta, on site. Literally the best meal I've ever had. I go back every time I'm in town.

If you are interested in a food and cultural tour - Food Walking Tour with Julio. He is a divemaster and absolutely the nicest person on the island. He tours through the culture and food of Cozumel, and you will leave full and happy.

Can you please report back after the tour? I am interested in the ruins, chocolate tasting and beach break excursion. Mostly wondering what the chocolate tour consists of.

If you're into history, the best excursion we've had in Cozumel in 5 visits, is the Tulum Excursion. It's a bit of a haul but worth every minute and nickel. Truly amazing.

We did the Mayan ruins, chocolate and beach break in 2024 with the kids and the grandparents. The chocolate tour took you through various buildings with information and a demonstrations of how cacao was ground by hand and there was a sample with a sweetened chocolate paste on a tortilla. The tour ended in a gift shop with samples. The chocolate bars were $10. The Mayan ruins were slightly underwhelming but I knew that ahead of time. My kids were almost more interested in spotting lizards than the ruins.

We did the DCL ruins, chocolate, beach break excursion in 2022. We enjoyed it. It's the San Gervaiso ruins on Cozumel vs the more impressive pyramids on the mainland. We stopped at a honey stand next. Then the Mayan chocolate tour was in the same location as the beach break, just buildings closer to the street. Presentation about how chocolate is grown and processed, then you get a sample of mole on a fresh tortilla, and the shop. The beach break is at Playa Mia, included 1 free drink. We just ordered lunch there and enjoyed the free wifi vs using the beach. We had a rainy and overcast day, so not the best beach weather and we were hungry after the rest of the tour. Food was tasty and inexpensive for the a la carte menu.
