Cruise 8/14 Worried about weather

It seems like I've been waiting forever for this weekend. We're leaving on Saturday for the 7 day.

Now there's Bonnie and Charlie and I'm so upset I could cry.

Does anyone know what happens if the weather is too bad to leave that day? Would they leave once the weather clears and do a shorter cruise?

Suppose the plane can't land, or if we can't take off from Philadelphia International?

Can anyone give me some reason to feel better.

Thanks
Betty Anne

If you are dcl arranged airfare, I believe the ships wait. (Someone else can probably confirm this.) If you can't take off or land, there would probably be others in the same situation.

If the weather is bad at the port, I assume they would wait until better weather to go.

I think that is why many of us try to get there the night before--so we have some leeway. Of course, that isn't possible for everyone due to jobs, other commitments, and airline schedules!

Sending you pixie dust for everything working out!

Betty Anne, before you panic, NOAA projects Bonnie to be way up in Canada by Saturday.

About Charley, go to http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ftp/graphics/AT03/refresh/AL0304W+GIF/120258W.gif and check out the projected storm track for Charley. The prediction at 11PM EDT had the eye up near Jacksonville at 9:00pm on FRIDAY and way further north by Saturday morning. The Sail-Away party might be kind of damp, but I think you'll be fine.

If you're flying in Saturday morning, this might be one time where you'll have better luck than if you were trying to fly in Friday night, although I'm still a proponent of coming in the day before.

Enjoy your cruise. If you have kids in the 5-7s, say hi to Robyn(USA).

From the looks of the projected path of Charley on the weather channel, you should have some awsome weather. Charley should be leaving Florida by Friday Night, and the weather just after a hurricane is usually quit good.

Since you leave on Saturday, the storm will not have reached Philly yet. So if you're flying Saturday, I think you are going to be just great.

We actually are scheduled to arrive Friday night around 11:10 PM. I hope this holds true.

This is my first flight since my honeymoon in 1970 ( I'm afraid my kids are much older than 5-7) and I was looking forward to it. Now I don't know which is more unnerving, flying in the bad weather or having to try to get on another flight which will get us there on time.

Thanks for replys.

If you can't get to the port in time, remember the first stop is Key West, so hopefully you could get a rental car and get to the port there on Sunday.

You can't board in Key West...You must board in the US at the same point you disembark...some law of some sort....I think everything will be fine....

Lizanne, you're much closer to my age. DH and I celebrated our 31 anniversary today. Robyn(USA) is my DD so I like to tell folks to say hi to her. Drop by the club anyway and tell her Mom said Hi if you want.

I doubt you'll have trouble on your flight, they'll probably just swing a little to the west to go around the storm.

Enjoy your cruise. Wish we were going.
Reine

Disneyma thanks for the idea (we're OKW DVC too)

Reine, we're traveling with another couple who have a daughter named Robyn (spelled the same). Hope I get a chance to say Hi. Happy Anniversary.

I wanted to take the time to first wish everyone a safe trip down and second a great cruise. Now - this is Shirley and an ol' conch from Key West and almost a native of Brevard County - I have been in and out of hurricanes for almost 70 years and yep we have had some bad ones, but not often enough to be concern - Norm and I respect them big time but not frighten of them - their path are followed so well anymore that people do have time to get out of harms way for most part - those that do get hurt is the ones that either refuse to leave or medical reasons or just another reason which is of their own making and believe me the conchs from yesteryear never left Key West - they stayed here and rode it out never realizing they were in a serious situation - I was born exalty one month to the 1935 hurricane - everyone was gather together with family - my mom told me the stories many times - Anyhow everything will be good and you won't be in any harm's way - Disney won't let anyone get hurt for that matter noone else will either - I wanted to let everyone know that if you were having any concern or if you needed a safe zone etc - call me at the shop ok - its 800-950-4559 - its always good to know you have friends away from home.
Smile you are going to have a good time and a safe time OK/
Chat with ya later
Always
Shirley

The news this morning said flights for Friday would be cancelled or delayed so you should be ok for Saturday.

Thanks Shirley! Great to hear that the weather has never made you worry too much! As a CM Mom - like my friend Reine, we are worried about our daughters' at sea during the bad storms. However, as you say, Disney would NEVER intentionally put people in harms way, and will no doubt have plans for the ship - should the weather not do as predicted. Wasnt sure HOW bad the hurricane may be, and just wondered if it may be delayed getting back to Cape Canaveral by Saturday morning. Hope not.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Reine................ hope you are going out for a "romantic" evening meal! Nat xx:Pinkbounc

Thanks Nat. For those of you who are interested, you can check out the storm track at the National Weather Service - Tropical Prediction Center Center - http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml? They even have map you can print so you can track it yourself. If you look at the predicted track you will see that Charley's expected to be in Georgia by Saturday morning so the Magic and the Wonder should be fine docking this weekend.'

By the way you might want to bookmark this site for future use. Like Nat, I always like to know what's happening when there's potential bad weather near the Magic where my DD is.
