OK, since I'm coming from Seattle, normally I would get air to MCO (Orlando International). There must be a closer airport to Port Canavral, right? What would that be?

I believe Orlando International is your best bet. It's 45 minutes to the port. It has the most flights. Are you looking at Daytona? Orlando has the Disney transfer buses to the port.

Tina

There is an airport in Melbourne and I am not sure how many miles it is from the port--I do know that it is closer to Vero than if you were to fly into MCO (Orlando)--the Melbourne airport for us to fly into there is usually about $100-$150 per ticket more and that is for Delta (we have a very small airport here and only two airlines--Delta and US Airways)

Just tried logging in for chat tonight and I had to use "java" instead of "ichat"

Hi Gang, TGIF!!:bounce: :bounce: Long week for me. Still working shorthanded, but that starting to feel "normal".
I'm looking forward to the newest cruise list. I print it out and keep it close by when I'm reading the boards. It helps me keep track of everyone.
Hoping for some nice weather this weekend, the last two have been rainy and cold. But at least no snow!!:p
Later, Ave

TwinAve'...I think that I speak for all of us northerners when I say that we would be more than glad to UPS so snow to Florida so you guys don't feel left out. Today when I woke up the temperature was 0!! What a way to start the morning.

Windermere...thanks for the falling waters info..definitely have to plan a trip there.

Signed up for Curves gym today and did my first workout--this aged, overweight body with a bad knee now has every bone in its body aching but I am not going to give up!!

Pretty quiet evening..is everyone chatting?? I would love to join in but I have no clue how you do this. Have a good weekend!! Mary Jo

MaryJo, Good luck with your workouts! And congrats on your weight loss. I'm with you, I can't seem to get into the chat room. I've tried but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Oh well, guess I'll just have to stick to the boards.;)
Please don't send me any snow, I grew-up on Long Island NY, I KNOW what it's like in the winter, and I know that snow is white, cold, wet, and a royal PITA.
Florida living, that's the ticket!:smooth:

Ave - I'm so sorry that you can't get into chat!!! I wonder what's wrong?!?!?

And, as far as the snow, all the northerners can keep it. I grew up in Chicago and I know all about it. That's why I live in FL now!!!

Just got my oriental trading catalog in the mail today at work and was wondering what everyone was doing or bringing for the kids..would like to bring something for all of the kids but don't know what yet..still trying to figure out what we can bring from PA..right now, my answer would be snow but maybe coal to save Santa the trouble..only kidding. Might bring smidgens!!

How about hawaiian leis for the adults?? I am willing to contribute or buy with whoever might want!!

Here's hoping for sunny days:sunny: :sunny: :sunny: till the cruise!! Just remember, you Florida people, while you struggle with air conditioning bills in March, we are dealing with heating bills (lots of them this winter!!) Guess no one has the perfect place to live.

With all the new posts since the last time I was on, I was not able to read all of them. Not sure if a Cruisetoberfest Cruise Chat is planned for Saturday morning, but I won't be able to be there. Our High School basketball team will be playing in the New York State basketball tournement regional final Saturday at Pace University. They won the Sectional Tournement last Saturday and their first regional game on Tuesday. They are a lot of fun to watch and if they win this game they will be in the State Semi-finals next weekend in Glens Falls.

Go TIGERS!!!!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Oh Sounds exciting Cheese. Good luck to them!!! Is your son on the team?

Sarah'sMom - I started an exercise program in January and I remember that first day after and come to think of it the entire week!! Every muscle, especially the calves, ached so badly. But that is but a memory now. Stick with it and have fun!!

Nice to see Cheese and Hopelea in chat tonight.

Will there be a Sat Chat??

Up late working on the Kid List. DD mary has turned in for the evening. LOL;) She (DD) hopes to have the first list out this weekend. All I can say is the list is growing faster than crabgrass. :jester: Later, Ave

Hi all. It's been a long day and an even longer week. I am SO glad the weekend is here!
We ahd dinner with my in-laws tonight and they have finally done it. They booked an Alaskan cruise! They have been talking about it for a few years! They leave on The Pricess Sun May 26th for 7 night cruise, then 5 "land" days.
I am hoping the catch the "cruise bug" and decide to join us in Oct.
Rainy and chilly here! I had to wear a COAT tonight:eek:
I will not be able to get to chat in the morning as I have about a million things to get done. No rest for the weary!

RellingTwin...tell your inlaws that they will absolutely love the Alaska Cruise..we spent a week in Washington state, cruised on Holland America from Vancouver, BC to Seward, AK stopping at Sitka, Ketchikan, Juneau, Valdez and then did the land portion from Anchorage to Fairbanks (via rail) and in route, we spent two nights in Denali. If they have any questions, you can just ask away!! It was the trip of a lifetime..the cruise through the glaciers was spectacular (although Sarah didn't appreciate the beauty..she told us she would catch a look on the videotape..so much for trying to show her the beauty of Alaska!!)

Even had a real bear encounter at Mendenhall Glacier--love to tell that story but Sarah won't let me because I embarrase her!! Also ran into a homeless person living under a tree in Sitka and when I pointed him out to DH and DD, they looked at me like I had 3 heads. On the way back to the ship, I was determined to prove that I was not looney..threw a few granola bars in reach of the bush and sure enough, the homeless guy came out to get them..he had an entire apartment under that bush!! LOL!!

Eric ... ?, does the passporter come in a size that I can use for my 7 ring binder? 5.5 x 11 inches. And could you post another link to it .... Thanks and hope you are felling better --- Hey don't you have a resident nurse in the house! hehehe

Cathy,
just click here PASSPORTER .
The refill-sets have a 6-hole-punching, so I guess you will get problems with a standard binder. If you don't want to go for the Deluxe-Version, try the spriralbook. You don't need a binder then. I took a binder from my company home to put my 2001-passporter-filling in (We often get these binders from surplus-production) and it didn't work as it also was a 7-ring-binder. It must be the crazy units-of-measurement you people from the New World still use :jester: Over here everything is standardized and metric.
Yes, having a nurse at hand sometimes can be very useful Anjaaaaaaaaa, I need a backrub!!!!!!!!! :p

Viking.......where in Germany are you? My sister lived there for 12 years in Immenstadt. She worked for Bosch (sp?) for awhile before moving back to the states.

Hope you feel better soon. Strep throat is going around here and my kids just got over it.

Keeping our fingers crossed that we don't get it too!

Hope

Hope,
that was perfect spelling!!!! Immenstadt is about 250 miles from our hometown, which is Frankfurt.
Immenstadt is in the darkest depths of Bavaria ;) , but the landscape there is wonderful.
Bosch is one of the largest companies over here. It's one of the largest suppliers of the auto-industry, also producing lots of household appliances like ovens, laundromats, vacuumcleaners, powertools, etc.
When did she return to the States?

Thanx for all the pixiedust, Folks.
I got a hell of o sore throat. The doc nearly kicked my bu** when I told her that I was at work yesterday (But we had so much to do!!) . She said that she already had three people this week with a pneumonia, because they took the bugger that got me not seriously. She prescribed me some heavy antibiotics and told me to stay home at least until wednesday.
Fortunately this morning the mailman brought my new Nintendo-Game (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) I bought on Ebay last Monday. So I've got something to do ;)

I'll be in the chatrooms at 10am EST.

Will anybody of our group arrive at MCO (Orlando INTL Airport) on 10/11/03, the day we depart from Port Canaveral? Or stay in a hotel at MCO?
I'm asking because we intend to use a towncar for our transfer to Port. But if we could share a luxury van with somebody it would save some bucks and we would meet our new/old friends a couple of hours earlier. We plan on returning our rental car at about 0930 to 1000am on that day. We could then order the van to pick us up at the Hertz rental station near the airport or use the Hertz Shuttle to the airport to meet our co-cruisers at their arrival gate. And after the cruise we would go right back to the airport. The cost for a van-roundtrip (MCO-Port-MCO) is about $180 & tip (Usually 200, but we got a coupon for $20-rebate). The van would hold 8 people & luggage, so the price would come to just about $25 per person.
Just let us know if you're interested. No obligation right now. We would book the van around 09/15/03 as we are leaving for the States 09/20/03. So there's plenty of time to make a decision ;)

MaryJo, Thanks for the info. I am going to copy you thread and e-mail it to DMIL. She may e-mail you with questions. Her E-mail address (so you know it's safe to open) is NanGeo@peoplepc.com
It sounds like a wonderful trip! DMIL said they are going to do an excustion where they fly to a remote area, (flying over the glacier and have a salmon roast. Her TA said it is a MUST DO!
