Hopkins--we might be interested in the scavenger hunt but do you think that we would still have time to take in some sights and shop in Key West--gotta spend my husband's money (!!) With my bum knee (tore ligaments last week falling ungracefully on the ice and arthritis in that knee also) i would probably need to use a cart and hopefully, we could hook up with another family--My dd is planning on emailing the other kids so maybe we could work something out. Does anyone know how long we are in port in Key West?

Was Joe Millionaire a bust or what? According to Entertainment Tonight, Joe and Zorra will be taking the free trip to Hawaii that Evan won--who knows!

Eric, I saw that you posted you and Anja will be visiting Crystal River. A friend/co-worker just got back and told me about this place. Check out their web site
www.birdsunderwater.com

It's a small, small world: That's exactly the place we're doing our dive course at. We also did our Manatee Snorkel Tour in 2001 with them. But it's good to know that there are more people recommending them. Thanks, Mary.

As there obviously are more people interested in the Zoo-Picture-CD I will toast 10 copies and give them away on a first-come-first-served-basis. So far the first three go to Mary, Tina and Fiona.
The pics will be from the following zoos:
-Frankfurt
-Munich
-Stuttgart
-Berlin
-Duisburg
and if there's place left I will put some Busch Garden's and AK pics on it, too.

No Mary, we haven't been to Barcelona yet, but we plan to go there for a week in 2004. So far we haven't been to continental Spain, we just visited the Baleares (Majorca) and teh Canaries (Fuerteventura).

Sarah'sMomfrom PA,

You will be seeing the sights as you are doing the scavenger hunt. You can use an electric cart. I'll be getting more information on the cost of adding that to some peoples excursions. We'll be in Key West from 12:30PM to 10:00PM, so there will be plenty of time for other things. The hunt lasts 3 hrs.

I'll be calling sometime today.
Tina

www.keywesthunt.com

Viking (Eric & Anja) - 2

scootersmom (Colleen, Don & Josh(maybe Mandy)) - 3
Missy and Tammy (Missy & Tammy) - 2
@GoofyNut (Cathy and Art) - 2
papa (Mike & Kathy) - 2

That's 29 people!!!!!

*Cost?
It's $20/person for 3 hours. An infant of 2 years in free. There shouldn't be any problem with taking an infant on a hunt, just put him/her in a stroller like in WDW. Prepayment by check is required three months prior to excursion (July). They don't take credit cards. If we miss Key West, the checks will be refunded. I'll provide an address and more info on this in July so we can mail our checks to them.

*Place and time?
We are going to meet on Sunday, October 12th, 2003 at 1PM in front of the stairs to the Hilton Hotel Lobby. It's to the right of the right brick building (Custom House) as you leave the ship. The Magic usually docks in front of the Hilton Hotel.

*Electric Cart?
If one needs an electric cart, the scavenger hunt people can point you in the right direction to rent one. If they rent it prior, you will be charged for the hour that it's sitting idle with them. Inaddition, you must fill out the paperwork. The electric cart place is one and a half blocks down Greene Street. The Hilton is on Greene Street, so this is about a 2 minute walk. Two electric cart places they use are Key West Cruisers @ (305)294-4724 http://keywest.com/keywestcruisers/ on Truman Ave at Truman and Duval and Reef Mobile (formerly Randal J Scooters) @ (305) 296-0208 www.reefmobile.com on Greene Street (near Sloppy Joes Bar on Duval). The Reef Mobile Electric Carts are themed, but have changed management and are going to be themed according to "reefs", like shark, manatee, dolphin, baracouda or octopus in a reef theme instead of the polka-dotted one on the hunt website. Call these companies to make reservations if you require an electric cart.

*Sites?
Southermost Point, Hemmingways House, Shipwreck, Cigar Place, Shrimp Dock and off the wall places you might not normally have known about. The normal Key West sites plus some interesting wacky ones, too.

*Hunting for objects?
In addition to searching for the sites and answering the clues (all for points that are counted at the end for prizes), there is an object named "PINKY". He is their mascot and if you find him, he is worth an extra 50 points. People in Key West know of Pinky the Flamingo. He's famous. As our award winning scavenger hunt is, too. At the end of the hunt, people gather at the "mystery location" for the awards ceremony where all the points are tallied.

That's it for now. They will be checking in on us to give our group more information, so they will be posting shortly and I will also. If more people want to join the group, just reply to this thread. If I missed someone, sorry. Just remind me, and I'll add you. I think I got everyone. I had lots of pages to go thru. LOL!

Tina

Tina - You are awesome! I'm going to double-check with Chris to see if he's up for this. I'll let you know.

As anyone taken a look at the electric cars used in the scavenger hunt at Key West. Too cool!!! Dan if we do the hunt how good looking will Art Cathy Kathy and me be in that vehicle. Thanks for all of your hard work Tina. We did miss the Key West port on our last western cruise on 09/28/2002 due to hurricane Lily though.

We had about an inch of snow here last night. The high today is supposed to be 30ºF today -1ºC I think.

Hope that everyone has a great day. Mike

Dan ... Speak for yourself about the Cart on the scavener hunt (hehehe) ... some of us arthritic, physically pooped people may want one so as not to drop dead of the heat on the first day!

Mike ... I think we should really think about the cart and we can go together on it. DAN...We promise, we won't run you over!

Tina ... Thanks so much for the work you are doing on the hunt!
Did they give you the names of the places to check on the Carts?

Sarah's Mom ... PM (private Mail) me with your real address and telephone # so we can try and get together over the summer and have a little meet! Glad your leg is a little better .. stay off of the ice (like's there are any places that don't have any!)

Amy, Dan, and anyone else into the reality shows.....Married by America? Didn't they learn their lesson with Darva & whoever thaty guy was? BUT you have to admit, they got us hooked .. even if it's just to see how bad the show is! Speaking of which, I started watching the one with "I'm a celebrity..." now I have to watch just to see how pompus they act. I guess they didn't see the line about the torrential rains, bugs, etc when they signed on!

FYI ... My DSIL just got back from a Carnival Cruise and said that they were more stringent about checking the psssports, etc when they came back to the USA than they had been in the past.

See ya later............. Have a Very Mickey Day!

Cathy with @ C

OK HERE WE GO....HOW DOES EVERYONE FEEL ABOUT THE MEN VS THE WOMEN ON SURVIVOR. ARE THE WOMEN JUST A BIT CATTY OR WHAT? AND HOW LONG WILL KRISTY(?) LAST? WILL SHE GO TO THE END?

ARLENE

Mike,
I will bring a laptop, a cell-phone and a large dish-type antenna to feed your portable GPS with new data, which will lead you directly to Cuba :jester:
I think we will have a whale of a time at KW.
The last time we were there was during a diverted cruise: In 99 we did a 3-day on the Magic in the wake of Hurrican Floyd and went to KW instead of CC, which was quiet disappointing. It was wet, rainy and depressing :) But we also spent two nice days at KW in 97 when we got there by car. The drive was great, we stayed at Marathon and spend two evenings at KW and on each leg we saw Key Deer near the street - Four times at all - They are so cute!!!
When do we arrive at KW? As the Hunt starts at 1pm do we have time to do some shopping before it?

Eric we will be in Key West around 12pm and be leaving at ship about 12:30pm. Here is a link with the electric carts that we will be using to run over you with:jester: Carts:jester:

You will not be able to haul all of that stuff you need to divert me through security. Our team may not win as their will be a lot of picture taking going on.

Do you think that we need a pirate flag and eye patches to wear as we treasure hunt?:p Mike

I just got off the telephone with the Southernmost Scavenger Hunt and the two electric cart places they use and recommend are Key West Cruisers @ (305)294-4724 http://keywest.com/keywestcruisers/ on Truman Ave at Truman and Duval and Reef Mobile (formerly Randall J Scooters) @ (305) 296-0208 www.reefmobile.com on Greene Street (near Sloppy Joes Bar on Duval). The Key West Cruisers or "Conch Cruisers" fit up to 4 people comfortably. The Reef Mobile electric carts like the polka dotted one in the picture on the website of the scavenger hunt fit 4 people but have the two in the back climb in from the front. Reef Mobile Electric Carts are themed, but have changed management and are going to be themed according to "reefs", like shark, manatee, dolphin, baracouda or octopus in a reef theme. Call them for more information and reservations.

Tina :)

Thanx for the info, Mike.
Seems like I have to go back to the roots and just shoot your tyres :p or drop some crowfeet - LOL , oil in a curve could also come in handy :jester:
Do you think Key West will recover when we're finished with it?

Now we only need a program for Grand Cayman as we're fully set for Cozumel (Thanks for all the work, Mary!!!) and for Key West (And thanks to you, Tina!!!)

Tina, The Hunt is sounding better and better. I'm really looking forward to KW now.
Eric, DD is all in favor of a kid's list. What kind of info do you want?
Papa, Still working on the chat thing, don't know what the problem is. I hate that red X.
Got to feed the crew, check back Later. Ave'

Tina, My sister and family (TwinAve) and myself and family booked a scuba dive/snorkel trip in Cozumel with an outfit called Eagle Ray Divers. It is a small operation (max 10 people) we booked last year but did not get to do because we did not make it to Cozumel. Since I knew Eric and Anja were getting certified to dive and wanted to do some diving during the cruise, and since I knew there would be 2 openings on out boat, I invited them to join our families. ERD does have 2 boats, so I'm sure another trip is available, if anyone is interested. I have heard many good things about this company, but have not used them myself ..yet!
Their web site is www.eagleraydivers.com

One look at those electric carts and my family was SOLD! DH said he has always wanted to drive one of those! So it looks like we are all (the 4 of us) doing the hunt, as well as renting a cart.
It looks like we can even put a cooler on the back:eek:

Arlene...I think the women will win the majority of the challanges IF (a big IF) they get a darn shelter built and SOMEONE takes charge!I think this is the most interesting Survivor. I have always been interested in human behavior.

I have a funny feeling that some of us (Mike & Kathy) will have to have a little strategy meeting at the Radisson on our hunt strategies. Mike, maybe we will need disguises too! I just checked on the carts from the site Tina gave us ... what ones can we pour ourselves into!

This HUNT is getting funnier and funnier. ESPECIALLY if you read Tina's last post on page 145....."all for points and ultimately prices at the end". Guessing you meant prizes!

Just kidding Tina (for now the gloves are off).

SARAH'S MOM ... Please e-mail me your info so we can arrange a little meet. MTH is that Moses Taylor Hospital?

Well Laundry calls and so does JAG and NYPD Blue.

Have a very Mickey night.

Tina, In case you haven't heard there are a bunch of us doing the Captain Marvins Tour in Grand Caymen. Sorry I don't have their link to send you. All my favorits got wiped out. :( We are doing the Stingray 1/2 day tour. Should be fun!:bounce:
My family and I spent some time in KW a few years ago. We did the Train thing, and Mallory Square. I have 2 books on the area so I will be reading up. I just love some good, clean fun. Oh, Mary can you carry our cooler? LOL
Later, Ave
