I agree with taswira, I would not call a 2.1 megapixel camera a waste of money. I got a 3.1 egapixel Sony a couple of years back (actually, I think it was my wife's BD present). I really like it and the pictures come out awesome (I always have it set on 3.1 MP)!
My brother-in-law, though, bought a 2.1 MP Sony. It had close to the same features as mine but was newer and smaller. He loves it and takes awesome pictures as well.
To me, I figured might as well get the higher quality and be able to crop more than to not have the ability to enlarge as much. My brother-in-law figured why spend the extra $$ if the 2.1 MP takes awesome shots as well.
To each his/her own.
BTW, I got the Sony photo printer that prints with layers of plastic film (Super Coat 2). It was a little pricey ($500?), but it prints great pictures and you can pick and choose which ones straight from the Memory Stick or CF (needs a PCMCIA card for CF). Unlike pictures printed on inkjets, if my picture gets wet, there is no ink to run. You just wipe it off. The printer also lets you adjust the pictures a bit, do effects, and prints edge to edge. Ends up being a great value to us because we can look at all of the pics we take (like on a trip to Disney) and select the ones we want to print for scrap books or family. And we can immediately print 1, 2, 5, 10 copies (no going back to the developer and ordering copies). I am even able to take my pics, make a collage on the PC, save the collage back to the camera (memory stick), and then print the collage on the printer.
