CRT and Egg Allergy - Any experience?

I am taking my DD7 and my 2 nieces to CRT for breakfast. We've never been there before and my daughter is allergic to eggs. It does not seem they have very many selections for kids for breakfast. She only has an issue with what the doctor called a "soft" cooked egg - meaning eggs themselves, in mayonnaise, on French toast etc but the egg inside of a baked good is okay. She hates any kind of oatmeal and is also a vegetarian (completely her choice but she has refused to eat meat since she learned it came from animals when she was 5.) We haven't had a problem at WDW because the only breakfast we ate outside of the room was a buffet. So is there anything she can eat for breakfast at CRT and will they work with me on it? She adores fruit - do they serve it at all at breakfast? We've always worked around the food allergy problems there so I am not sure how to deal with the restaurant. Any advice would be appreciated!
 
My mom is Vegan and so avoids eggs. I would use the allergy email and email then the chef can speak to you. Vegan waffles for example or something like that.
 
I have the exact same egg allergy!! I've been to CRT for dinner. I can't comment on breakfast. The chef came out and talked to me and went over the items on the menu with me. Maybe someone else has done breakfast there and can comment. I can say Disney is the best place for food allergies. They really go out of their way to accommodate their guests!
 
Definitely talk to the chef, explain that she's a vegetarian with an egg allergy, and they will work with you for sure.

Looking at the menu, the "Healthy Choice" entree might be OK for her, and I'm sure they could child-size it and leave out the egg whites. (And the hot cereal if it's too oatmeal-y for her tastes.) There's also a pastry basket for the table, so she could eat from that too.
 

Thanks! I will talk to the chef. I forgot about mentioning the allergy when I made the reservation - should I call the reservation line again and try to have it added? Or just explain to them when I get there?

She doesn't eat much anyway, but I want to make sure there is something for her to eat. I'm sure she can have a pastry.
 
Calling to have it added couldn't hurt, but I would still mention it when you show up as well.
 
With regards to the egg allergy, generally speaking "soft-cooked" eggs are eggs that have not been heated to the point where they completely set up firm.

The allergy is usually a reaction to the egg protein which gets thoroughly changed when it is heated. You may be discounting some of the offerings on the CRT breakfast menu prematurely.

If the child can eat a hard boiled egg then it can eat a quiche, french toast (most likely), French Toast Sticks (definitely), Scrambled eggs, omelets, anything where the egg does not run.

If it has been a while since this topic specifically came up with the child's allergist, it would be worth it to have a very specific conversation on this. Egg allergy is one of those that changes pretty dramtically over a persons life.

No, she can't eat any type of egg itself - no scrambled or hard boiled, no French toast sticks, no mayonnaise, no ranch dressing etc. BUT egg inside of a baked good is okay.
Edited to add - we had to test her reaction to the baked goods, but it's fine. She's six now, but has not outgrown it (nor her shellfish allergy). Her milk allergy on the other hand is nearly a thing of the past! She's been outgrowing it over the past year or two and now eats small amounts of diary products.
 
My son has a variation of this. His allergist called it a primary egg allergy. So he can't have French toast, but he can have waffles and pancakes. The egg has to be a secondary ingredient. And all processed eggs don't seem to bother him, so store cookies, cakes, crackers, etc. are fine. As I bet the French Toast sticks at CRT are packaged, that would be OK for him as well.

I would definitely contact the allergy folks at WDW. I'm sure they'll be able to create a substitute meal.

Thanks for the reply. I had not considered how the package processed French toast sticks might be okay. I was thinking of regular French toast.

I think Disney can accommodate at CRT, but in these situations my husband will also carry his own snack where egg is most of the menu.

In the ten years we've been married, I figured out how to bake so he can eat it too. Basically he needs a half cup of flour or more per egg and thoroughly baked. But can't have mayo, egg wash, brownies, egg pasta, egg sauces, some ice cream etc.

It's also been explained to us as a protein intolerance more than a true allergy. It has something to do with how it denatures.

At least now he tells waitstaff about his allergy. He used to just guess at menu items, then sometimes suffer the consequences (like sorbets that have egg whites in them).

I forgot where we ate breakfast but we were able to get waffles and pancakes for DS1 who is allergic to dairy and eggs (among other things). We always call ahead and email Special Diets and then speak with the chef when we arrive at each restaurant.

I have that same egg problem. I discovered that if I overcook the egg, it's fine...as in, scramble the eggs until they have actually browned up. Thankfully, they are very tasty that way!

I'm thinking maybe I'll ask for some overcooked scrambled eggs when we have our CRT breakfast...:)
