Crowns on a 5 year old

My DD had crowns put on her baby teeth when she was about that age. She had lots of groves in her enamel just like I do. Now she is 16 and we go to a new dentist and he just raves about what wonderful teeth she has.

I can't help but think that putting the crowns on her at that age has saved her from all the filling I went through as an adult.

I would ask about sealant on her remaining teeth. Our dentist did this on our now 13 yo when she was about your dd's age. She hasn't had 1 cavity and she doesn't floss regularly. I have too many battles I'm fighting alread.

Sealants do not protect the in-between surfaces of the teeth, only the deep grooves in the chewing surfaces. If the decay is in-between the teeth, sealants would have done nothing to prevent the cavities.

Both of my kids each had one baby molar that needed a crown. My DDs did not fall out until she was 13yrs old. My DS is 10 and still has his. they were both the metal crowns.

As far as bad teeth, I don't think my DH has any filling and he is 45 and not a great tooth brusher. On the otherhand my permanent teeth came in bad and I have a mouth full of fillings with two crowns but nomroot canals so far. I attribute my bad teeth to the fact that when I was little my family lived in the country on well water. My DH lived his whole life in big cities with floride in the water.
