Crowds in August?

I've never hit the World in August, but am planning on going this year. How are the crowds as compared to earlier in the summer?

My family prefers going in late August. After going on several July trips, we've learned that the end of August is best. This avoids the big July 4th crowds at the beginning of the month and the tour groups in the mid/end of the month. Being a teacher in NJ, this works fine since we don't start school until after Labor Day. We've also noticed much less crowds and shorter wait times at the end of August compared to July.

We've gone many times late August also. I prefer it to any other summer time to go! The crowds are very low in my opinion (my sister's kids go back to school in August, but here on the East Coast my kids also don't go back until after Labor Day). Yes it is hot, but it's hot at home! You may have storms, but they tend to last a very short time. If a rainstorm is coming (nice to have a mobile radar app on your smartphone), we just duck into somewhere!

Last time we went in August, I actually ended up going to Target to get sweatshirts. Evenings can get chilly, and I like to have a hoodie to throw on (or when the air conditioning is blasting, as it is in some places).

You won't have such late hours for parks sometimes, but that's fine with me!

Last week of August is great to us. I'm in NJ and we also start school after Labor Day so it works perfect.

We usually do rope drop and then a midday break. And then head back around 5.

It is VERY hot but crowds are low. I don't remember waiting in any line longer than 20-30 minutes but this was pre FP+.

We are planning the last two weeks of August next year. Wondering how it'll turn out with Labor Day being so late next year.

We love the last week of August. Low crowds, low prices. Its hot and the daily storms roll thru, but as long as we get an early start to the day, its all good :goodvibes

We have always had great luck with Aug. trips. We have also been in July. I think the crowds are far less in mid to late Aug. We arrive this year on the 10th and depart on the 17th.

NJ teacher here too! I'm going to DL with friends in July when I usually hit WDW, so this August trip has me intrigued. It sounds as if I'm going at a great time. Hmm...maybe this will be a new tradition. ;)

Thanks everyone!

We have gone during august and found the end is quiet. This is most likely because of the kids going back to school

We went in late July in 2010 and 2011, but we went in mid-August in 2012. We couldn't believe how much nicer it was in August crowd-wise. For one thing, unless something has changed, a lot of the big tour groups are gone after July. As others have already stated, kids are close to going back to school in some places and that decreases the crowd levels pirate:

We've had low crowds during our August trips and although it was sooo hot it was a blast : ) I think this august will be a bit more crowded with the frozen events at DHS but the other parks should be fabulous!
