Crocs and Foot Problems

Not me. I actually have plata facitis (sp?) and they are the only comfortable shoes for me. ;) There is an article on Web md website about croc's and your feet I would recommend you reading .. Good Luck!

Actually I believe that is what I have as well - self diagnosed, but I am going to the doctor next week for it. Didn't have any trouble till I got the Crocs for Christmas and now I can barely walk after inactivity - it's great fun getting old!!!!

I've been wearing crocs for a little over a year now and no troubles... i can still wear my high heels with no problem....

I have plantar fasciitis; I knew before I went to the doctor based on online research. He really didn't tell me much I didn't already know - good arch support, wear good shoes (New Balance sneakers), stretching, anti-inflamitory med, never go barefoot again, freeze water bottles and then roll your arches on them. But he was good for getting me arch support inserts which have helped a lot. When I asked him about Crocs though, he rolled his eyes and said they were terrible although he hadn't heard about the special "Croc Relief" crocs specifically made for those with plantar fasciitis so he couldn't comment on them. Those are the only Crocs I'd consider with my condition.

I had a pair of Teva Pretty Ruggeds that I raved about and wore many times at WDW; no blisters, so comfy - well, after my last trip to Disney, wearing the Tevas all day, everyday that is when I first realized I had plantar fasciitis. I was SO bummed when I realized that meant they had to go. That they didn't have the support I needed. :sad2: Now I'm on the hunt for a new, really good support sandal that I can wear in the summer because I really don 't like wearing sneakers, which are recommended by the foot doctor.

Good luck. I hope some of this info helps you. :goodvibes

I have a bunion and my podiatrist recommended Crocs, which by the way I thought were an atrocious looking shoe, I decided I would try Crocs b/c the alternative (orthopedic shoes) was out of the question. I now love Crocs and hate when I have to wear any other shoe. Good luck with you foot issues. I hope you find out what's going on.

My sister wears them to work at UCLA Med Ctr and several podiatrists have told them they are bad for the feet and contribute to the above condition. I have bunions and they have been a lifesaver for me. My MD actually recommended Birkinstocks which I wear in the summer.

I have a few friends who have had problems after wearing the mammoth crocs. I think probably because they don't have a strap and are hard to keep on your feet.

I bought several pairs of Crocs (I think they were Beach) and loved them. But after awhile, I found that they would be comfortable all day long but when I got out of them, I could hardly walk my feet were so sore and uncomfortable. I have since also been diagnosed with plantar faciatis, and done everything to treat it. I do not know if the Crocs contributed to this. Most of the time I'm fine now, but it flairs up every once in awhile and I start the whole treatment process again. I read online that the Birkenstock Arizona style are good for PF. That is what I now wear and I love them. I buy them on Ebay and get them for about 1/3 of the cost of the store.

I have also heard (but have nothing to back it) that people are getting stress fractures in their feet from wearing Crocs all the time. I don't know if there is any truth to this.

I had not hear of the Croc relief shoes, I'd be interested in seeing what it is and how they are different.

I miss getting to wear my Nike sandals!!! :headache: I have expensive New Balance sneakers but I hate, hate, hate wearing shoes when it's warm out...so I'm going to want to find good sandals with arch support...please share if you find any!

I have p.f. too...my doc said the crocs likely don't have enough arch support and a high enough arch to keep the ligament from becoming irritated/injured. For some people it might be ok...even with the condition...for me they're fine for wearing as slippers so I don't go barefoot in the house but I don't wear them for long-walking type events or for all day.

Thanks for the replies. I got Mammoths for Christmas and they are incredibly comfortable, unfortunately, I have a feeling they are at least part of the problem. The doc will probably tell me to stop wearing them. According to another friend with p.f., the Doc told her to get Asics sneakers. We'll see.

I am slightly concerned as we have less than 4 weeks until our vacation, and I don't want to be the weakest link!!!!!!

I have arthritis in my big toe and my doctor also recommended that I never go barefoot. He said clogs are the best kind of shoe for me and specifically recommended crocs--or some other much more expensive brand. I've been following this advice for about 8 weeks and the arthritis pain is gone. But I have a different pain now--in my arch and heel. I know I have bone spurs in my heel, but they never caused me pain before. I wonder if the crocs caused it? I am going to my doctor on Monday. I would also love to hear recommendations for supportive shoes that are at least a little bit fashionable. I really don't like the way the crocs look. I only wear them around the house as slippers.

I just took my DD8 to the doctor yesterday because she has bunionettes(bunions on the outer side of the foot)! He said they could be caused by narrow shoes, and I told him that she lives in Crocs. I am taking her to the podiatrist soon, and I hope he says it's o.k. to keep wearing them.

I too have PF - my Dr didnt tell me to stop wearing them, but did say arch support is good. However, these are really the only shoes I can wear - I tried birks - but they have too much of an arch for me.

While my PF was getting under control, I taped the bottom of my foot with athletic tape (I am an occupational therapist so taping is something I knew could be done for support ) in a pattern I found online. It made a HUGE difference and allowed my foot to heal. THe pattern was easy - go once around your foot right at the arch, then take a piece and start it at the base of your big toe and run it down to your heal - if you have narrow tape, you might need to make a few strips to cover most of the bottom of your foot - I was totally amazed at the difference this made for my totally painful foot!! The dr told me to ice, stretch an gave me ectoldac (?sp) as an anti inflammatory that I took 2x/day then 1x/day and now really only as needed - I definately take it regularly at Disney!!!!

I find that the crocs scutes and off roads are particularly comfortable and feel a bit more supportive....

Hope you feel better soon - what a bummer!!

I too have pf. I wear crocs all day every day at work where I am literally on my feet 8 hours a day. My feet feel better than when I had the new balance sneakers on. I love my crocs and will be wearing them at Disney in April.

To the person who is looking for good sandals, I wear Ecco's. I also have PF, and I wear Ecco Cosmo II's. I've worn them walking throughout Europe, Disney, etc, and they are my favorite shoes. I'm bummed in the winter when I can't wear them, even though I still wear Ecco's - boots, though! My sandals are the best. Hope this helps.

My plantar fasciitis got really bad after I returned from Disney last year. I wore my crocs the entire time.

This past January we went to Disney and this time I wore my new balance sneakers and I had no foot pain.

I love crocs and continue to wear them for everyday wear, but if I'm going to be doing a lot of walking, I put on my sneakers.

I just wanted to add, for anyone who's going to be taking a Disney or other 'lot of walking' trip soon...and who has PF...to consider a cortisone shot or shots in both feet. I had pf for a year and was living with the pain...tried everything, anti-inflammatories, ice, rest, special arch supports, etc...and they didn't heal. Finally gave in an got the cortisone and they feel awesome! I still wear shoes and don't go barefoot and the other things that my doc says to do not to have a relapse...but I am feeling soooo much better!

Anyone out there develop foot trouble right AFTER they started wearing Crocs???

I probably would if I wore them for ANY length of time. I have high arches. These things do not properly support my feet.

I wear Ecco sandels a lot and they are great.

My running shoes were fitted for me at a local running store and I have never had any problem there.

(NOTE: No blisters with Ecco or my Brooks running shoes. Several hot spots the one time I tried to wear Crocs in Disney. Now I just wear them to the pool!)

I have arthritis and crocs made it SOOOOOOO much wose. They just don't give me enough support.
