Crock Pot or (slow cooker)

Gotta agree with Deb in IA (go Hawkeys!)...a crock pot isn't any more dangerous than the other appliances already in the villas. Disney doesn't have any control over the safety of the other appliances either (other than choosing the brand).

Actually I believe it would be more safe if Disney did supply the crock pots...they would be new and up-to-date...and there wouldn't be folks bringing their own 25 year old version (these things last forever!) with iffy wiring, etc. :earseek:

Certainly Disney does have control over the safety of appliances. Basically in my opinion you contradicted yourself. First you say Disney doesn't have any control over the safety of the other appliances, then you state that it would be more safe if Disney did supply the crock pots.

My point was: if Disney did supply them as they do the other appliances they would make sure they do not get old and worn out with iffy wiring, cords, etc.

By Disney providing new and up-to-date appliances, checking them for any wearing or age and replacing them they do have control over the safety of the product.

6/4- OPEN.

We arrive 6/10 (for 3 nights at AKL). We're at OKW from 6/13 to 6/18. We could take it any or all of the time we are there (6/10-6/18).

Sammie...I'm not sure what the problem is here. Actually, I think we agree! :D Maybe I didn't use the best wording to make my point. The only control that Disney has over the *other* appliances (stove, toaster, etc.) is in choosing a brand that has been historically safe and maintained.

Yes, I stated that it would be more safe for Disney to supply new/up-to-date/regulated (by Disney) crock pots directly in the villas *rather than* people bringing their old models from home (that could potentially be unsafe). Disney wouldn't be able to control the safety usage of the appliance...but they would at least know that people are using current models with up to date wiring and be able to monitor them and replace as needed.

That's where I was headed with my comments...sorry it didn't come out as clear as I meant it to be. FWIW, I'd leave my crock pot on all day at home...but I'd never use the start time/stop time feature on my oven if I were away.

I agree, Katie. That's why I was suggesting that DVC consider supplying these in the villas.

I think that would certainly be safer than individuals bringing their own, which may be old, or have gotten damaged in travel.

By the way, the Hawkeyes can use all the help they can get!!

KWeaver, I think so. :)

My point is if crockpots are going to be used, I feel better if Disney supplies them and makes sure they are up the same Disney standard that everything else is.

By the way, the crock-pot will be BRAND-NEW. We are buying it in WalMart when we get our groceries and a crock pot is 100 % more safer than a coffee maker. Speak to your fire department. It automatically shuts off after your 8-10 hrs is up and the wire doesn't over heat as does a coffee maker..

We'll be arriving at OKW on June 4th, checking out to go to CR on 6/11. I would like to get in on the crock-pot. Just tell me how??

If the rotation makes it all the way to December, I'd like to borrow the crock pot from December 1 to December 8th:D

I'll keep checking;)

Thanks for offering it!

I don't think crock pots are at all dangerous, but I don't think Disney will agree to supply them, either. It would just be one more headache for housekeeping. As a frequent crock pot user, I can honestly say that a crockpot can be a bit of a challenge to clean sometimes. I'd rather not have one in the unit if I have to spend time scrubbing it out before I could use it! And IMHO, housekeeping already has enough to do to get the rooms ready for the next guests.

I'm basing my "supposition" on the condition of some of the pots and pans I've found in the units (dried up stuff "caked on"). Apparently, many guests do not feel an obligation to clean up the pots and pans after they use them to burn their meals, LOL! IMHO, a crock pot would be treated the same way.

That said, I'm sure a crock pot that is passed around would arrive clean - it would be too embarassing to pass one on that wasn't!

Imagine the peer pressure of having one's dirty crock pot habits posted on these boards for thousands of people to read! :cool2:

NikDor,

I've sent an e-mail to NCRedding about the pass off. Once I get a response, I'll e-mail you.

But while I'm waiting, I'd also like to be put "on hold" for 12/19 - 12/24.

Thanks!

Oh No, now I have pressure about the cleanliess of the crock-pot--it is too much!! BTW, I've just now e-mailed both the party before and after regarding the transfer. Not as "warm fuzzy" as the Christmas tree, but a great idea!! Thanks for going to all the trouble with this.

I would think cleaning them could be an issue too ( a crock of chili gone bad can be kind of scary!)

I will pass the crockpot to NCRedding on 6/4, and I promise it will be clean. It would probably be a good idea if the crockpot is put back in the box before being left at the front desk, but I'm not sure the box would hold up until Dec. Thanks again, MikDor, for all the work (and the pot, too) you have put into this!

Well, it looks like I am not going to help with the crockpot handoff. Does anyone want the one I am leaving at VB on May 15? They are welcome to it if they want it. Just let me know. If not I am going to leave it in the cottage I stay in or send it home with my son to Tampa. He probably won't want it but he may get it anyway.
