Can anyone give me any suggestions/ideas on crock pot meals that I can throw in before going to the parks in the am and have it ready for dinner time when we get back to the room?

Are you really and seriously thinking of leaving an electric device unguarded cooking in your room? :scared1: :scared1:

I would not have a moment of rest going into the parks.

I am pretty sure this is not allowed unless you are in a condo/studio. You can check the budget board for crock pot recipes though.

I second everyone's concern about leaving in a hotel room all day. However, if you are in a condo with a full kitchen - I guess it isn't any different than if you did it at home. (But is this your crockpot and you know how it cooks? - my new one cooks a lot "hotter" than my old one) I would still be nervous. But here are my favorite crock pot recipes that don't require many ingredients:

BBQ Chicken - bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce and chicken / cook on low all day

Melt in your mouth sausages - italian sausage, 2 large cans of spaghetti sauce, small can of tomato paste, 1 T parmesan cheese, (optional - 1 t parsley, sliced green pepper, sliced onion - I have done without these but it is better with them) Brown sausage in small amount of water. Combine all in crockpot and cook on low. (My husband and kids favorite) We serve on a bun but you could cut up and serve over pasta.

Saurkraut German Potato Salad - 1 can saurkraut, 1-2 cans Reads German potato salad (it comes in a can and is usually near the canned veggies at the grocery store - may be hard to find based on where you live), 1 pkg. polish sausage (near the hot dogs) cut into 1 inch pices (I use turkey sausage). Combine in the crockpot and cook on low for 3-6 hours. Easy great German meal if your family likes saurkraut.

Shredded Beef/Goose/Venison sandwiches - This is very easy but does take some time shredding when you get back. My husband hunts so we have wild game but works well with beef too. Brown your meat in a small amount of butter and minced garlic (if you have it), put in crockpot, cover with canned chicken broth (just enough to cover - usually a can or two - if you are short just add water) and 1-2 T worcestshire sauce. Cook on high all day. Shred meat with fork and serve on buns.

My mom also did one with pork chops and chicken/rice soup. I can't seem to find it - but I believe that was about all there was to it.

I love www.allrecipes.com. Can't say the above recipes are all from there - but some are.

Good luck!

Sorry just don't understand the big difference between leaving a crock pot on a bathroom counter plugged in all day versus leaving one in your kitchen at home while gone to work. I guess it would actually be safer at the hotel because odds are if smoke triggered the alarm the front desk would be able to respond versus your home just baking away for hours. Remember always better to ask forgiveness (from the maid) than permission (from the reception desk).

Oh yea and a recipe.

drop in a roast.
cut up red potatoes, carrots and an onion and put them on top.

poor over a mixture of about 2/3 water and 1/3 vinnegar to about halfway up the roast. douse the top whorchestershire (pardon my spelling) sauce across the top and a few dashes of seasoned salt.

cook on low.

Put out the hotel fire then eat

also you can replace the roast and veggies with a couple of racks of ribs cut into smaller portions.

The big difference will be the hundreds millions of dollars Disney will sue the one fore that burned down there resort with a crock pot :rotfl: :rotfl:

So if you want to cook in your crock-pot at Disney. Get an umbrella policy from your local realtor before heading to Orlando.:cool1:

Just Kidding. I wouldn't really want to cook in my crock pot at Disney anyway. But, I could see it as a viable for a family that wanted too. Anyway to each his own. Have a good weekend.

I apologize for all of us - you are staying at a Marriott timeshare, right?

By the way, I own at Ko Olina (Marriott on Oahu, Hawaii) and it's awsome!!!!

I love crockpots, when it's cold especially.

I like to do a beef roast - usually I buy an eye of round roast. At Costco, they come in packs of two or three, but at any other grocery store they are sold individually.

I put one in the crock pot, cover with (please don't laugh) a can of Coke, and a package of Lipton Onion Soup Mix (one packet, not the two that come in the box). Now, Root Beer is better actually! It is so good, and it is so easy!!!!!

Oh, and you may want to check out flylady.net.

She's got some good crockpot recipes.

Also, you could make an easy Chili recipe early, and keep it warm in the crock pot. I like to use the chili beans (they are called something like chili magic?) and then you only need a can of tomatoes and some beef (or meat substitute, I sometimes go veggie). Then you can make some rice or pasta, and top it with some cheese and sour cream. It's fun. You could cook the meat the night before, then toss it all together in the morning.

Have a great trip!

My question is....

How on earth are you transporting a crock pot to Disney? We are staying in a condo so this would actually be a good option for us, but I can't imagine how I'd put one in my luggage.

My recipe contribution:
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Packet of taco seasoning
1 cup of salsa

Sprinkle the taco seasoning on the chicken. Cover with salsa. Cook for about 6-8 hours on low. Top with sour cream if desired.

Here's another easy one....
1 cup of minute rice (uncooked)
2 cans of cream chicken with herbs soup
1 can of cream mushroom soup
1 package of boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips

Put in crockpot...cook for 4-5 hours on low

Don't forget to use a crockpot liner for easy cleanup. :)

I'm actually staying off disney property in a 3 bedroom villa - not that should make a difference. I always use my crockpot at home and never worry about it burning down my house. I will have to call and ask their guidelines... I've never had a problem before but now you have me questioning it.

I never lug my crockpot with me - I usually just go shopping at Walmart and buy one and leave it with a note for the cleaning lady to keep if she would like it.

Call the timeshare ahead of time - they MAY have them!

At our timeshare, they have rice cookers, but you have to call and ask about borrowing one.

Otherwise, I saw that Walmart had them for only about $8 or so last week.

Oh - I also like chicken breasts in spaghetti sauce - and add a cup or so of white wine. It's really good! All you need is some pasta later. The sauce I think it tastes good with is the one with green and black olives - it tastes like a Puttanesca chicken dish with the wine.

I'd check though, they may have crock pots. I don't see how they would mind you using one - I've heard of lots of folks using them at the Disney Vacation Club timeshares. I think it's a good idea - I'd do it! We cooked a lot in Hawaii last year (actually our friend did most of the cooking, he's an awsome cook).

We "lug" ours with us, but then again, we drive! I have a crock pot that has a probe on it, when the food hits the right temp. the crock pot turns itself to warm, so I have no problem leaving it on. I plan on bringing ours with us. It also has a timer for those meals that I can't "probe"

We have done meatloaf, a roast, simply throw in some chicken with a bottle of Italian dressing, and chili, oh yeah, and meatballs, my kids love them.

Have fun!

I use a crock pot all the time at home and I set it before I leave for the day. No one is here to watch/monitor it... What is the difference in a hotel room or a DVC room with a full kitchen. It is like using a microwave or a small refrig and those can be rented even in the Value rooms. The wattage is very low. I would bring/buy one and use it as you have mentioned. I don't for see any fires.. but then again.....

Not much difference in a crock-pot versus the risk of someone leaving an iron on, or maybe my gf's hair straightener that I unplug every day after she's gone to work.

I actually cooked a roast yesterday and it was awesome. And while I made my trip around the local golf course I wasn't one bit worried that my house would be in ruins when I got home. I also understand however that it's just not in my personality to be so worriesome. I figure by the time Disney could track down the source of a fire that destroyed all of Port Orleans to my delicouse roast I'd be halfway to Mexico.:rolleyes1

I think most hotels don't want you to use items like crock pots, toasters, etc. in their rooms because of the potential fire hazard. (I know I'm pretty cautious about not running my clothes dryer, dishwasher, etc. at home if I'm not there. You never know what ran to the grocery store! Scary.)

You not only have yourselves to worry about, but the other people staying at the resort, too. I'd hate to be the one responsible if something happened - I'm the one who always goes back to check to make sure I turned off my curling iron before leaving the house in the morning!

To be safe, I'd just call the hotel and ask them what their policy is. Then you'll know for sure what's allowed.

They are not in a hotel, but a condo. So it's just like any other cooking as they have a full kitchen.

I think it's a great idea - as they are definitely very cheap at Walmart. Gosh, leaving it though - that is nice. I'd still call ahead and see if they have them for you to use! May save some $

I like to cook ribs and bologna in my crockpot. Of course, your room will smell like BBQ meat for a few days, but who cares?
Have a great time and enjoy your crockpot.

I toss in a pot roast (or another cut of beef...whatever is on sale), a can of cream of mushroom soup, and a bit of water. I make mashed potatoes and biscuits (bisquick) to go with it. If you don't feel like really "cooking", the Betty Crocker garlic mashed potatoes (instant) are quite good. The soup makes a delicious gravy for the pot roast with no extra work. :)

I cook in my crock pot often. I wouldn't worry about it. If you're nervous about it, make sure to plug it into an outlet with a "Test/reset" button. If it overheats, the outlet will turn it off.

Also, if you're in the mood for good pizza when you're in a condo, Freschetta frozen pizzas are pretty darn good. We hardly ever order pizza at home now!
